Jalakandapuram has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 63%. In Jalakandapuram, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.Significant section of the population belongs to the Kannada Devanga community, Vanniyar Community and Nadar Community.

About Jalakandapuram

It is a place famous for weaving, especially sarees. Many don't know about this place, but all the major sellers are buying sarees only from Jalakandapuram and two more towns(Vanavasi and Elampillai). These two places are located nearer to Jalakandapuram only.

Lot of local festivals are conducted here reflects Tamilian culture. The festivals are celebrated by the whole town with loads of enthusiasm notable ones are mariamman festivals which are held in March/April, Soorasamharam in November. There are very booming for Modern textile machines and products. Towns total economic depends on Handlooms and Powerlooms and Textile mills. In concerning Agriculture, the main farming on Cotton, Ragi, Cornflower. In milk production it is a great collection area.

1.Jalakandapuram is also known for some great temples like Kalyana Subramaniya Swamy temple for Lord Muruga. Lord Muruga is concider to be a more powerfull god. Recently a MAHA KUMBABHISHEGHAM happened. It gathered many people from all over the world. Some of the photos attached below.
