Welcome to the Military history WikiProject!

Hi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Starting some new articles? Our article structure guidelines outline some things to include.
  • Interested in working on a more complete article? The military history peer review and collaboration departments would welcome your help!
  • Interested in a particular area of military history? We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, or periods.
  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every military history article in Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the project coordinators, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kirill Lokshin 00:15, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Battles

Actually, the preferred way to do this is through campaignbox templates. A handful of more complicated wars get their own "List of battles in the X War" articles, but we generally prefer to avoid this option where possible. Raw lists of battles directly in a war article are the worst of all possible options, since any substantial list can easily make an article fail a FA nomination. Hope that helps! Kirill Lokshin 00:27, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re: comment on korean war

hi, in response to your comment on the picture about marines being featured prominately, you wrote that americans forces took the brunt of the fighting. actually the koreans took the brunt. thus, my belief that a pix of koreans would be better. thanks. Hongkyongnae 09:40, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Oyo321! I'm Wikimachine. I know that you are working on Korean articles, and share interests with me on subjects such as Dokdo, Turtle Ship, etc. Again, as there was in Turtle Ship, some game maniacs are dedicating a significantly large section of the article to write about games.

I know what you are going to say, that more infos are fine. But please reconsider and take a vote. It really looks awkward when Hwacha article is short in the first place. (Wikimachine 13:36, 16 July 2006 (UTC))[reply]

HappyApple contact

Hi, Oyo i have noticed that you are involved in Korea-related articles and i have found an issue regarding copyright infringement which may gather your attention.

There are a couple of images uploaded by user:Good friend100 that they were tagged as copyright infringement, but i think that they can adequately be claimed fair use and subsecuently stay and keep in Wikipedia, and those are : Image:Okpo.jpg ,Image:Chinju.jpg, Image:Noryang.jpg, by following this link and scrolling down with your mouse and finding the images mentioned, you can post your opinions and state your position on whether to "delete" or "keep" the images, you can call other collaborators you know, and they can post their impressions too, on delete or keep.

Those images are really good and highly descriptive for the series of events related to Imjin Wars, and i believe we can save these images if the other editors you know (i.e. Korean collaborators that may have work with you) can contribute on their oppinions choosing keep in the ongoing discussion at images in comment upon removal. As a reader, personally, I feel that these images are really great and it would be a pitty if they are just "speedied" by stating that they are not "iconic" (in the sense of less historically-representative) as user:Kusunose and user:LactoseTIsuggests. I think that the Imjin Wars or the Seven Year's War was a major conflict in East Asian History which can adequately claim fair use on those images.

I hope that you could left your impressions soonly on (Image:Okpo.jpg ,Image:Chinju.jpg,Image:Noryang.jpg), before the administrator gives the veredict. Cheers,--HappyApple 07:12, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

There is a very close vote on the WW2 discussion page going on at the moment about the overview of WW2. I would like it if you could vote, as I am very worried that the "narrow" viewpoint will win. Thank you. Wallie 00:03, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oyo, I can clearly see that you are an enthusiastic contributor and that you can talk a lot of sense. However, please refrain from using insulting phrases or talk that can be interpreted as such. It not only hurts other users, but it also lowers your credibility as an editor. =KiteString= 23:48, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hideyoshi's Invasions of Korea

Thanks for your recent contribution to the discussion. I was about to quit when you join, so I'll continue the push. Yes it's ridiculous. Hideyoshi "masterminded" the war? Definitely JPOV.

My question is... is there like a committee which examines really intensified and extended disputes? We need a 3rd party to completely side with one side -which would probably be us b/c we make more sense. (Wikimachine 05:08, 20 September 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Goguryeo

고구려는 우리 나라의 자랑스러운 역산데, 감히 짱개놈들이 건드리다는 것은 너무나도 황당한 일이지. It is my duty as a Korean and descendant of 고구려 to fight back. i didnt kno u were Korean until i came to ur page. The way u phrased that question kinda made it look like u were a Chinese challenging someone to prove that Goguryeo was Korean ancestry. That was my mistake. I kno now that u are another fellow proud Korean. Let us work together. But, i'd like to tell you something first all. Dont stress urself out on this issue. China will never stop. Their textbooks have already been changed and they will keep poking at us. Times like this require a level head. The entire world is on our side. all people have respected Goguryeo in its rightful place, which is its position as one of Korea's ancient Three Kingdoms. No one will believe the Chinese. The world will kno. I'm glad that there's someone on Wikipedia that sees things the way i do. 잘해보자. 우리 고구려 만세! 대한민국 만세!--Kprideboi 21:51, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox

As I said, the userbox was deliberately meant to be satirical, but provocative. If after seeing a mere userbox, you feel emotional enough to make attacks on someone and say things that you might get embarrased by later, then maybe you should ask yourself if you're able to edit in a NPOV way. In the course of editing, you may find yourself having to edit controversial topics, and engage in disputes with others holding strong opinions. If just a userbox can set off your passions, how would you be able to edit controversial topics without a lot of personal bias creeping in? --Yuje 12:20, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Goguryeo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Goguryeo.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

It's true. I do love my country, but sadly, I am not Korean. I am American by birth and by choice. The point of the military is not to rise up the ranks. It's because of fools like you that this world is screwed up. The point of the military is to serve, not to rule. Besides, I hate Korea. I hate stuck up societies filled with ambition, greed, and lust. Korea has regained its pride, but will never regain its lost honor and integrity. If you only live for yourself and your pride, I can only that you are lost. Only by humbling yourself, will you find anything that can clear your eyes. Racism is only but a petty emotion of the weak minded. There is much more racism in Korea. There are many ethnocentric laws in Korea than any other free capitalist society. By the way, The former United States Army Joint Chief of Staff is a Nisei. Odst 15:33, 21 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

! !

That took awhile to get a reply from you... well, as much as I do regret masking myself with such a different part of me, I can't help but thank (and therefore tell) myself, for it was done to see that silly nature of yours... Your love of nationality blinds stake at which it it costs to bring up your worthless life.

Nah, I don't hate Korea, you're just overreacting to your own perceptions... What makes you hate China so much? People say, "oh I hate China, but not Chinese people", or maybe "a few Chinese people are ok" and all sorts of worthless shit... Then you go out and hang out with your Chinese friend, go skating and tagging toilet seats...

huh yeah, fighting japanese nationalists by day, reading manga by night! lol

It's all likely the same, Chauvinism and ethnocentrism...all gay worthless crap for the sake of name and honor,pffft :-p That flag you eat and sleep under, that society you roam and walk beside, What do you think all that is? It's almost never by those like you that people are seen beyond the borders of ethnicity and nationality. In Darfur they kill people because they are not supposedly descendants of arabs, and in serbia and iraq you have your ethnic cleansing of the Kurds. It's not like there is, or will stay a one-sided conflict. Say a Guy kills your dad. Then say you kill the guy for killing your dad. then that son of his is out to get you for killing his dad. I would probably kill you if you killed my dad, but it sounds ridiculous since all this was all because of some petty nation-ethnicity sort of thing

Shits walk around saying that their country is so great, the "master race" and shit like that, and that stupid excuse for a competition "Olympics" and that wonderful pussy-talk over some stupid soccer game, Oh yeah!!! that wonderful argument over some stupid islet, clearly laughable for the the sake of name! lol

Yeah, like you said, if like every other society korea has no "dignity" or "honor" (did I really say lust? -gasp- :-o), what is there to like about a silly excuse for a society, much less what is there to elevate or deify such? Be real; and relax, since you probably have more in your genes than you and yourself realize :-) Disregarding unnamely aspects of your own party and degrading your opponent sounds very childish and laughable to me, ha. ha.

This is just to annoy you, but Korean society is notorious for a variety of things such as conspicuous consumption and hypocrisy, and just to name the things unique, there's what I like to call the "college fever", that ridiculous cutthroat competition whereas merciless parents pit their children in a violent struggle for various fields of what they call pride and success. It is somewhat hard to walk the streets or sit in a restaurant in seoul without sensing at least some degree of paranoia. I've felt it lots of times, and I used to feel that way when I go to Korean Churches, so I used to do things like try to be competitive in everything and such. I'd get negative reactions from the adults for my outside look, and used to get scolded by them whenever I refuted their so-called ways of Confucianism and perfect society. Respect? haha, I am not about to respect some bastard who runs a liquor store, cursing at blacks in korean and chasing off Mexican kids with no solid proof of their shoplifting, nor will I ever respect some sul-jip madam with excessive makeup and cocky bourgeoisie, who can't even solve a simple equation... ha. ha. ha.

yeah like all them gay diligent fobs that get straight A's Can't properly comprehend intellectual study, and call me an idiot and a "disgrace for a Korean", just because I haven't any decent grades and I don't speak Korean or hang out in their "inner circle"/ Hell, I can speak both english and Korean better than those bitch-ass whores, and I got 2 ap classes my freshman year, #$%^ those hypocritical cocky bastards!

Sorry, got too emotional... ah, brings back lovely memories... Now I forgot why I'm writing this o.d.s.t. : feet first into hell (talk) 02:10, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

glad I made you laugh, I like it when people laugh, malicious or not/

!!!

sorry, I didnt feel like reading the whiole thing before replying, but I might read it later when a feel like it. What you saw was "ranting', as I like to call it. I don't really want to explain this, so ill keep it simple!!! :-) I didn't really lie at all; It's just wonderfully strange that you haven't viewed my contribs in detail. Now I forgot which of your statements I wanted to address. Yeah, It has to do with that dogged determination and foolish nationalism. Then I forgot what to say again, so ta-ta...kid. o.d.s.t. : feet first into hell (talk) 00:12, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

okay!!! buddy, Hate is a strong word... Did I ever say anything about hating the motherland? hecks. no. Idiot, it's because I love it that I criticize it so much. I couldn't give a shit about any other country than Korea. or maybe the US too. Honestly, the whole point of this all goes to my hate of nationalism. I point out shitty things about Korea to put voice into my statement that there is no reason to elevate your country over another. Loving your country is great, but it isn't while hating another.

It's true, I do have some sort of disdain for Korean society, Which still tries to clearly elevate one and lower the other. I can only feel remorse for the people that have to experience this sort of social rigor, rigor whereas people fight over name and identity. You always have to dress some way, act some way, and you have to be from a graduating class of a prestigious college to be recognized as a human being. People constantly fight over everything, constantly competing in gay things things like the company cook-off or fighting over the Bill after dinner. Fucking efficiency at the cost of equity. Korean kids at my school are hacking away at each other for the top, with their so-called diligence. Haha, and other white kids ask me stuff like " how come a Korean like you ain't got good grades, or do tons of community service hours, or not even go to expensive tutors for SAt? Well, It's simple; I can be successful and content with my life without having to violate social darwinism, l0l/

That video!!! OMG it made me cry, but kinda made me further feel disappointed that Korean society got fucked up. (did yi myungbak hire jopoks to modernoze cheongacheon? -gasp- lol) Korea's wonderful in all sorts of ways, except for two things: fucked up society and gochujang. Gochujang tastes good but I hate the smell. much like I hate the smell at namdaemun shijang.

damn, you r a racist. hate China? japan clean? WtF??? Well, it's o use saying what I was gonna say, so I just suggest a few years living abroad. China's a nice friendly place, except at the market. never go to the market. JApan! I lived there for a while, and It's not as good as you think. still, enjoyed feeling up girls at the record store.

am I going off topic as (supposedly) always? o well, I enjoy ranting on about ridiculous things, so I thank you for bearing the burden. If you are reading this sentence, you earn a barnstar!!! Claim your prize now!! kid. bow to your sensei!!! o.d.s.t. : feet first into hell (talk) 00:47, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ooh, I'm related to Kim Dubong or something. I'm not sure about kim jwajin, tho. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Odst (talkcontribs) 00:50, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

!!!

All the things I said are true, in a conceptual manner... It's the only way you can look at it without misunderstanding something.

yeah, I admit, a sneak a few beers or two every once in a while.

Pfff inferior people? I consider all people equal in every way. That's something I clearly disagree with you, maybe the only thing. Like you said, it's not like people choose to be born the way they are.

ANd what? you justify hatred and killing for the sake of vengeance? If you kill for vengeance, and if you are killed in turn for being a killer, what kind of sick, sick, world would that bring? I demand that you withdraw that statement; it's because of assholes like you that our beloved country is separated into two.

The reason I cried watching that video was because I felt the pain that people have to go through because of the sick worldly concept of name and entity. How fucked up is this world? I mean, people get persecuted and killed simply because they are different, and the cycle of hatred continues when they wage war for vengeance. That's what's going on in Palestine, and that's what's going on in the Sudan.

now I forgot what else I wanted to say, so....
