Hi there; may I say first of all that I am perfectly happy to see the article gone. As I have said in various threads, i felt that [[WP:AfD]] was more appropriate, but clearly opinions differ. You may not have noticed that there were references included in earlier versions of the page, and of course a Google search confirms the accuracy of the article absolutely. Custom welcome page spread by Diego Grez onto ~1000 user pages

Hi Mitchell,

RE:Diego Grez

I'm not sure that this custom welcome page spread by Diego Grez onto ~1000 user pages is such a good idea. It's really unorthodox. And it also spreads following images:

I've also seen IP users finding this welcome page downright offensive. Please consider replacing it with a regular welcome page.

--Dc987 (talk) 05:25, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Erm, dDiego hasn't edited a user talk page besides mine and his (and one to Xeno's) since early January... HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 12:49, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Uh. Ok. Anyway, please double-check this link: Special:WhatLinksHere/File:Bullying_Irfe.jpg. This image has been spread onto ~1000 welcome pages and it features two kids. It might be privacy of a minor/CIPA violation. --Dc987 (talk) 23:37, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt it, and if there were, it would be a Commons problem, since that's where the image is. You can raise it on commons:commons:AN if you wish. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:46, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. I think I did that for fun, in late November, as far as I remember, when I finally got a permanent and stable Internet connection :) File:Bullying Irfe.jpg is a picture, taken by me, in a public place, a school, and I don't think that needs permission. The other one clearly states it's my grandpa, and I think the fact that he's dead since October 2007 is also important here. And also, as HJ pointed out, I don't edit anything since January, so I can't think why it is a problem now, more than 7 months I stopped using that welcome message. --Diego Grez let's talk 01:43, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I checked this one out, and I agree with HJ and DG - I don't see any problems with those two images; the children are certainly not readily identifiable, and the picture of DG's grandpa is just a very nice picture - just because a pic by a Wikipedian is good quality is not a reason to assume it must be a copyright violation! Chzz  ►  01:54, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your input, Chzz. Diego, can you email me please. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 02:03, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your input. As to the question, why it came up more than 7 months after - pure accident. Some of the edits are in the time frame of the PAN 2010 LAB training corpus, so they are going through extra review. --Dc987 (talk) 08:00, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback now?

Do I have enough vandalism revertation to reapply for rollback now, and if not, how much more do I need to do? (Contrib|Edit Count) {{Tb}} requested 930913(Congratulate/Complaints) 07:40, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting in touch! :) I'm glad your still dedicated to ridding WP of vandalism- we need more people like that (or less vandals, but that's not going to happen any time soon)! Before I grant you rollback, though, I would like to see a few more warnings on the talk pages of vandals. I see you've been using Twinkle, which has a complete index of warnings so you only have to press a few buttons to warn them rather than memorise hundreds of templates (unfortunately, I use the old monobook skin, I've no idea where the button is in the horrible new vector skin). Once you've given them a final warning, you can report them to WP:AIV if the vandalise again (there's a button with Twinkle that does that, as well). If you were to do that and come back in a few days to a week, I'd be more than happy to give you rollback. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:19, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm trying, but TW doesn't seem to be opening up their talk page automatically adding a few stages to warn and AIV, so I generally haven't; I'm seeking to get it fixed. In other news, what do you think about auto semi protection for all (high) schools? I've noticed that all IP edits to them are vandalism so far, which protection would stop. {{tb}} requested 930913(Congratulate/Complaints) 16:57, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. That might just be a bug, but I don't know- I don't revert with TW, I revert with rollback then warn with Twinkle- you could always just open up the page history and take an indirect route to their talk page to warn them. As for semi protecting high schools, frankly, I don't think people should be able to edit without logging in at all, but I'm in a minority. There are a few edit filters that detect certain types of vandalism to those articles, but they're not perfect. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:04, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sticking my nose in- Twinkle's auto-open feature won't work if your browser has any form of pop-up blocker activated. Courcelles (talk) 20:04, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was using Chrome, is it blocked by default? I've moved to FF since, but would like to migrate back. 930913(Congratulate/Complaints) 17:51, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
How about now? {{tb}} requested 930913(Congratulate/Complaints) 17:51, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I use chrome and Twinkle works for me, though I gather it's not designed for Chrome, it just happens to work! But yes, you can has rollback ;). HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:10, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Much appreciated 930913(Congratulate/Complaints) 18:18, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

the page that you previously locked is continually hijacked by POV editors from israel who refuse to want to gain consensus before removing an image. I told them to gain consensus as the onus on the challenge of the WP:Bold lies with the one challenging it to get consensus, yet a whole host of editors seem to rally a "tag-team" to revert and remove an image they decree as "anti-semitic and offensive" which is no ground for a wikipedia removal as per the image at Virgin killer. I was wondering if youc an offer some advice? Clearly the lockdown of the main article didn't work.Lihaas (talk) 00:57, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Let me look into it, just for reference, though- I can get there quicker if you link it in the header ;) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:59, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've fully protected it for 24 hours. Hopefully that will encourage people to discuss things on the talk page. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:07, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, just want to say though im not edit warring or getting into conflict over the fact that it must stay. All i'm saying to those editors is let the process of consensus be given a change before these POV edits. (there are countless edits where i've taken the "other side" if you must be to a neutral post.Lihaas (talk) 03:56, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm just hopeful that people will make use of the talk page while it's protected, but having got involved in an admin capacity at another Israel/Philistine article, I highly doubt it will make much difference. :( Such is life and such is Wikipedia. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:59, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Would be possible (or even better) if an admin gives them a warning to "cease and desist" from removal until consensus on talk. The talk debate is split between the tag-team and others.Lihaas (talk) 20:57, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've imposed a 1RR restriction. Hopefully that will at least facilitate more discussion. If anyone violates it, let me know or report them to WP:AE. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:15, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, i was about to work on edit too. good thing i noticed.
just 1 more query rather a complaint, there was a talk page discussion a week ago about splitting the page. The choice would involve the picture in question so should i wait it out or split it now? (which would mean possibly delocking this and locking that to 1RR)Lihaas (talk) 21:19, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, while I'm all for being bold, you might want to get a consensus for that on the talk page. Personally, I don't think we need a third article on the same subject, but in my role as an uninvolved admin, I'll defer to consensus. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:28, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Already got agreement a week ago, (when the article hit 100k) havent acted on it so the bot moved the subejct to the archives.Lihaas (talk) 22:55, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well you could try it, but if you're reverted, it would be unwise to revert back. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:58, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Could you take a look at the request at Talk:Kappa Sigma#editprotected? Thanks — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:02, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up, I'll get to it in a moment. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:15, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ho. My first CSD.
Can you, (or a stalker) take a look at this and see If I am wrong? I have posted templates to the creator and to the article, and dropped a note to the Admin(?) JForget who closed the deletion discussion. Any other step I need to take? (maybe I can go beddy byes now? ) --220.101 (talk) \Contribs 18:24, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I re-redirected it and fully protected it to prevent a recurrence. Thanks for the note. You did the right thing, but you might have been better redirecting it yourself rather than CSD tagging it, since the empty deletion log is likely to confuse the admin! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:30, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"Speedy Admin, Service with a Smile"
My first CsD, and I haven't done a 'redirect' yet either! Hope I haven't made an enemy. Maybe my page talk/user will get vandalised?, seems all the 'best' editors cop it! Thanks! --220.101 (talk) \Contribs 18:42, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Now that is speedy deletion! ;) Maybe, but admins tend to be better targets for vandals than IPs (see the recent history of this page, though most of the revisions have been deleted). HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:57, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More vandalism from User:24.255.166.78

Dear HJ Mitchell,
User:24.255.166.78 is making random edits to articles such as Up in the Air (film) and Yahoo! News much like this anonymous user did in May 2010. I noticed that you blocked this user in May due to his/her vandalism. You may wish to monitor this user and block as appropriate. Please provide a talk back in response. Thank you. Sincerely, --Dan Dassow (talk) 19:54, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've blocked them for 2 weeks. :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:56, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Dear HJ Mitchell, thank you for your quick response. I really don't like to see a user blocked, except when all of their edits are vandalism as in the case of User:24.255.166.78. Whois seems to indicate that this is an individual on Cox Communications Inc. NETBLK-COX-ATLANTA-8 rather than a shared IP address. --Dan Dassow (talk) 20:04, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well if they keep it up after the block expires, report them to WP:AIV and you might want to mention that in your report so they can have a nice long wikibreak! ;) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:06, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Big Brother 2010 (UK)

I'm 99% sure you meant to semi-protect that article (see WP:RFPP), so I've downgraded it to semi-protection. Revert me if you really meant full protection. Courcelles (talk) 21:10, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's embarrassing! Yes, I meant semi, thanks for fixing it! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:11, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that's twice in fifteen minutes I've reverted something it took a mop to do. I'm becoming rather rogue :D Courcelles (talk) 21:12, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Admin abuse! Admin abuse! I'm going to drag you to arbcom and get you desysopped! ;) In other news, my own act of rebellion was a success and we can now protect the TFA! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:18, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you don't mind...

But I fixed your closure of Immunize's RfA. Regards, Master&Expert (Talk) 03:19, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I had intended to go back and make sure I hadn't screwed up but wanted to let Immunize know what I'd done first. It's a shame it ended like that, I see a potentially good admin in there, just not yet. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:22, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just a reminder- when you snowball an RFA, you need to document it. Courcelles (talk) 03:33, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, thanks for the pointer. I didn't realise I was supposed to do that. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:36, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did it for you this time. ;) There's still lots of things left to learn- I deleted twelve pages with one mouse click today- and it wasn't using Twinkle. Had no idea that could be done! Courcelles (talk) 03:38, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's interesting. I zapped 70 in one go yesterday (lots and lots of spam!) but that was with Twinkle. We can delete subpages along with the parent page can't we? just when you think you know at least most things, something else comes along that shows you how little you really know! :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:50, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I zapped twelve pages talking about the evils of zebras with Special:Nuke. Yes... zebras. Gulf oil spill, two major wars, global warming... and those pesky zebras. Going to bury many head in the sand and ignore the looming zebra conquest now... Courcelles (talk) 04:04, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, of course, nuke! I forgot about that! I used it earlier to remove a load of nonsense pages someone had added. Zebras? Zebras? What have they ever done to incur someone's wrath? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 04:09, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello HJ. There seems to be a problem with the tally at his RFA (it is at 0/0/0). I'm not sure how to fix it. Airplaneman 13:25, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed there does, but I'm hoping someone else knows how to fix it! :S HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:28, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe fixed now? All looks good to me. Oh, and ta! TFOWRidle vapourings 13:34, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Quick request

Regarding your recent protection of User:Mono/Sandbox/2, I had a quick question. Could you enable the "cascading" option for the page, so I could enable protection on my other sandboxes, similar to User:OverlordQ/Lockbox? Thanks, mono 20:01, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cascading doesn't work for semi, it only works for full protection, otherwise I'd be happy to oblige. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:02, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's kind of odd! Thanks anyway. mono 20:04, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all odd, such a thing would make it possible for non-admins to keep such "Lockboxes". –xenotalk 20:06, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That could be disruptive, come to think of it. mono 20:07, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Quite. –xenotalk 20:08, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Userspasce pages transcluded onto a cascade protected usersapce page wouldn't be an issue, but if people started transcluding images or templates, it could very quickly become problematic, which is why it was disabled as I understand it. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:11, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Even allowing non-admins to cascade their own userspages and the like would be problematic; they would be much more likely to violate the protection policy, such as preemptively protecting pages that have not been the subject of vandalism. –xenotalk 20:27, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well as long as all the pages affected were in the editor's own userspace, I can't (hypothetically) see a problem with it, but the difficulty is that it would be very easy to accidentally end up cascade protecting a template or an image, never mind the ease with which it could be abused. It's just a bad idea, really. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:45, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Checkuser

Will you please take a look at this and act on it too? I don't think Jehochman has logged on for a bit lol. Undead Warrior (talk) 22:16, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's interesting. I'm not a checkuser, just a humble admin, but there's enough to raise my suspicions that the IP is an established editor logged out. Whether it's votestacking, I'm not sure yet. You might like to file at WP:SPI to request a checkuser (if you think you know who the IP belongs to, they can check whether that person has logged in from that IP) but I'll certainly do some poking around. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:25, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I had a look around, but I'm pretty sure the IP is not the person you think they are, but they could be a logged out established editor. I'm afraid I've no idea who it might be, but I'll try to get in touch with someone who might. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:49, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stephens City, Virginia

As you are aware, User:Risker has blocked User:Xtzou as a sock of a blocked account. This is a problem for me as Xtzou was my GA Reviewer. I was wondering if you could re-review this GA review. I am asking as since Xtzou was blocked as a sock, I want to have someone elses name attached to the GA review since I plan on taking this to FA in the very near future. - NeutralHomerTalk23:01, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can have a look, but having spoken to Risker by email, I don't think there's any reason to doubt the validity of the review and from my experience of FAC, reviewers there will judge the article on its merits, not on the GA reviewer. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:38, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey HJ, I understand that but from my view, I just want to make sure that no one can call into question the GA. If your name or another valid (non-sock) user's is on it, there won't be that question. I just want to make sure everything is done perfect when it gets to FA (eventually) so I don't have to go back and do something over. - NeutralHomerTalk20:42, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll take a look at it over the next few days. I don't think a whole new review would be necessary, but I'll go through the article and the review to make sure it's all in order so you can attach a more trustworthy name to it. :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:50, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So I decided to join the copyediting backlog drive next month, because I happened to be on your talk page when the invitation was posted there. Needless to say, I can't afford to lose a week of productive time until at least August.  ;) --~TPW 19:48, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ha! You go for it, I just don't like unsolicited intrusive automated messages on my talk page, it's busy enough as it is! I'm sure it will only get busier later since I just deleted nearly 100 expired PRODs! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:52, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I'm more than happy to read unsolicited intrusive automated messages on your page. That's what WP:TPW is all about . . . --~TPW 19:53, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe I should set up a subpage for thankspam and similar unsolicited stuff. I thought, TPW (had to get that ins somewhere ;)), that TPW was about chiming in with useful advice when the "owner" of the talk page is unavailable. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:06, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You mean you want me to work while I'm here? Isn't this supposed to be fun?--~TPW 22:16, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You should be humbled that I have allowed you the honour of stalking my talk page. The least you could do is make yourself useful while you're here! ;) The preceding comment was made by HJ Mitchell at 22:22, 11 June 2010. The fact that he did not type four tildes ~~~~ should not in any way be held against him.
Was that helpful?--~TPW 01:36, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Bugger off, you! ;) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 01:38, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I know, I should quit my day job and apply to be Sinebot's understudy. I hear it's looking for vacation time.  ;)--~TPW 01:50, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sumbuddi's edits on 'Nicola Blackwood'

As soon as your protection period expired, Sumbuddi went right back to his old tricks. he is now on the 13th revision of the exact same text: no matter how many compromises I put forward or different changes I make, he always reverts back to his same text. Not only is he in violation of the 3RR rule, but he has already ben warned to stop reverting, and he kept doing so. he will not even discuss anything on the discusion page, he wont propose anything, he wont aknowledge discussion or compromise, he just reverts, reverts, reverts, to the same POV post every time. Please help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.49.241.171 (talk) 20:39, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Of note I have bought this up on WP:RFPP. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 20:40, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

I'm curious about your decision to grant rollback to an inexperienced user, Lurkmolsner (talk · contribs)-- you might want to keep an eye on that? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:09, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Inexperienced, yes, but well meaning and off to a good start. As you can see, I left them an informative note about "the rules", albeit in template form and I will keep an eye on them, but at the end of the day, it's only one button and there's not a lot of damage that can be done with it, so I'm usually inclined to AGF unless a check of their contributions shows something concerning (such as a disposition to edit warring). Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:16, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You might want to look at the FAC I just closed, and the responses that editor made there ... could be a concern, maybe not, just a heads up. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:58, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. That's... interesting, shall we say, but not something, on its own, to make me think he doesn't know the difference between vandalism and a good faith edit and it's very easily revoked if it's misused. Btw, completely off-topic, but I could have sworn you were an admin! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 00:37, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I can hear the gears turning now . . . --~TPW 01:38, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there; may I say first of all that I am perfectly happy to see the article gone. As I have said in various threads, i felt that WP:AfD was more appropriate, but clearly opinions differ. You may not have noticed that there were references included in earlier versions of the page, and of course a Google search confirms the accuracy of the article absolutely. Hence my approach to it, but good riddance anyway. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 23:12, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well if I have to invoke IAR to get rid of it, it's not the kind of thing we need hanging around. From what I read (I did my homework before zapping it) there were sources in an earlier version but they didn't or no longer do verify the information. If someone wants to add unquestionably reliable sources to it that unquestionably verify the information, I might consider restoring it. Hi, could I take part of this request for deletion?. If I could voted, I would say this:

  • Strong Keep Maybe the person isn't notable outside Chile, but he was very notable when he took part of several controversies around the town, Pichilemu, where he was mayor. Additionally, his song 'Heredero de tu Amor' was very popular in 2004 [1] Chile hasn't charts, but the article states it received high play in some Santiago radios. His controversies have received coverage from the most important newspapers in Chile [2] [3] --Diego Grez let's talk 01:52, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, and cheers. --Diego Grez let's talk 01:52, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
