I appreciate that you are acting in good faith, but it is best if featured articles are nominated by people who have worked closely on them. In this way, they can give reasoned replies to reviewers and be familiar enough with the sources to act on suggested improvements. Someone who has not worked on the article can not provide this input, so the nomination may continue until opposition to it becomes so overwhelming that the article is failed; this takes away time from reviewers. While the Richard Dawkins article is of reasonable quality, it is not yet of featured quality, and principal contributors must be consulted before a nomination, as required in the featured article candidate instructions. That site had no ads on it at the time I added it, and even though it does have ads, that doesn't necessarily mean it's commercial. And regardless, it's irrelevant per WP:ADV.

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi, this message is to let you know about disambiguation links you've recently created. A link to a disambiguation page is almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. For more information, see the FAQ or drop a line at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of Mark Rippetoe[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mark Rippetoe requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. reddogsix (talk) 01:58, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

This article no longer meet the criteria for speedy deletion. Please see User_talk:Reddogsix#Proposed_Speedy_Deletion_of_Mark_Rippetoe and Talk:Mark_Rippetoe#Contested_deletion for more information.

Status and Advice[edit]

As reviewing administrator, I deleted the article, but for promotionalism, not failure to show importance. You did indicate importance. Whether it amounts to actual notability is something for the community to determine.

However, the article was extremely promotional, using adjectives of praise throughout. I tried at first to edit it, but I think it needs to be rewritten entirely. When you do that, include references to reviews of his books. Since the article asserts scientific publications, list them. And don't claim too many "noted for"s in the infobox. DGG ( talk ) 04:11, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

I tried to keep it neutral but then it was nominated for speedy deletion for failing to assert importance so I may have gone too far in the other direction. I'll rework it. Could you move the deleted article to my user namespace in the meantime? Thanks.Manicjedi (talk) 04:19, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
OK. It's at User:Manicjedi/Mark Rippetoe. I was having second thoughts about that one; all you really need to prove notability is good published 3rd party book reviews. Undoubtedly there are some in specialist publications, but it might be claimed they review everything in the subject, so see if you can find some in general-interest magazines or newspapers. We had a period here when I joined 5 years ago where articles were being speedy-deleted as G11 if they didn't explicitly say in the first paragraph. " X is notable because ...". That has passed, but people still keep saying it. If I see a phrase like that now at NPP, I tend to remove it. Good luck with this.
Incidentally, the photo at Commons has been challenged., though I can't figure out why. DGG ( talk ) 04:37, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
Jeeze LOL. I understand, I did rush this one out a bit. Thanks. Manicjedi (talk) 04:43, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Category:Films featuring the World Trade Center[edit]

I fired AWB up to have a look at this. First problem being the quality of the list is not great. There are redirects on it, and non-films. For example:

Second problem is people may object to the category. Categories are generally "a defining feature of the subject".

All the best. Rich Farmbrough, 00:38, 23 November 2011 (UTC).

Hello, Manicjedi. You have new messages at Faizanalivarya's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

AfD and PROD notifications[edit]

Hi Manicjedi,

Back in November, you got either an AfD or PROD notification, which was part of the template testing project's experiments. If you could go here and leave us some feedback about what you think about the new versions of the templates we tested (there are links to the templates), that would be very useful. (You can also email me at mpinchuk@wikimedia.org if you want.) Thanks! Maryana (WMF) (talk) 19:29, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Stub tags[edit]

Please take care not to add {{stub}} to an article like Dymokury which already has a subject-specific stub tag. And note that stub tags go at the end of the article, after everything except inter-language links - if you go to put it in the right place you are more likely to notice if it isn't needed anyway! Thanks. PamD 11:10, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Wayne Goodman[edit]

A tag has been placed on Wayne Goodman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
