"Cheater"
Song
B-side"One More Chance (R. Kelly Remix)" (UK)
"We Are the World (Demo)" (Japan Only)

"Cheater" is a song written by Michael Jackson and Greg Phillinganes, originally slated to appear on Michael Jackson’s album, Bad, but failed to list in it. A demo version was released on November 16, 2004 as a album track of his limited edition box setThe Ultimate Collection.[1] The related single for this song was planning to be released in UK and Europe in 2004.

Release and Commentary

Michael Jackson recorded a demo of "Cheater" in 1987 for his album Bad, despite being one of Michael’s favourites at the time, it failed to make the final track listing.[2] As promotion of limited edition box setThe Ultimate Collection, at the end of October 2004, Epic Records has given a Maxi-CD titled Highlights From The Ultimate Collection or The Ultimate Collection Sample both in US and Europe. In this 12-tracked not for sale CD[3][4], 8 hits were drawn from the height of Jackson's career and the other 4 tracks – "Scared of the Moon", "Beautiful Girl", "We've Had Enough", and "Cheater" – were previously unreleased.[5]

A one track promotional CD singles of "Cheater"[6], and a UK Vinyl with "One More Chance"'s R. Kelly Remix[7] were released in 2004 to promote the box-set and as a potential single, but full commercial release was cancelled for unspecified reasons.[8]

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic.com described "Cheater" as "so funky, loose, and alive", and "it's hard not to wish that Jackson didn't fuss over his albums and just record like this all the time".[9]

A music video was shown on some channels; it features clips from the Live in Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour DVD which was included with the album the song appears in.
