**Comment I agree, and so does the target article Mario Moraga, which says exactly that. Assuming it's just a typo and not some strange BrE/AmE usage thing, can we change it please? (Actually even if it is a usage thing it should arguably match the article, no?) Thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 08:30, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Revision as of 09:59, 1 February 2011

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 09:40 on 10 September 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use edit fully-protected on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors in the summary of today's or tomorrow's featured article

Hyphen

In tomorrow's featured article, the "Alfred I. du Pont-Columbia University Award in Broadcast Journalism" should be hyphenated. Right now it uses a slash ("Alfred I. du Pont/Columbia University Award in Broadcast Journalism"). The name of the award is hyphenated in it's article and on it's website. Wrelwser43 (talk) 01:08, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Or more exactly, the article uses either an en dash (which is longer than a hyphen, and which should really be spaced, according to WP:ENDASH) or a hyphen, and the website uses either no punctuation at all or a hyphen. Art LaPella (talk) 01:35, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
When two entities cooperate to form a third, and their names are combined to name the third, as in this case, a hyphen is appropriate: the situation is directly comparable to hyphenated double barrelled names. Kevin McE (talk) 07:29, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in In the news

Template:ITN-Update

Sudan

I think it should be "99% of voters are in favour," rather than "99% of voters in favour," can't really explain why, but it sounds gramatically weird to me the way it is. C628 (talk) 00:13, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest specifying which voters (i.e., voters in Southern Sudan) are in favor of this. Adding an "are" wouldn't hurt, either. The sentence is just awkward as it is. Herr Lip (talk) 00:58, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The phrase "in favour of Southern Sudan secession from Sudan" should read "in favour of Southern Sudan's secession from Sudan". 68.9.112.195 (talk) 03:13, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in today's or tomorrow's On this day

Reporters: please first correct today's or tomorrow's regular version.

The POTD is missing again. As is tomorrow's. Modest Genius talk 00:15, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(As an aside, it might be easier to spot these things in advance if the link for tomorrow above was red when it didn't exist, rather than pointing to Wikipedia:Today's featured picture/Tomorrow which means it's always blue) Modest Genius talk 00:15, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in Did you know?

  • that Mario Moraga, former regidor of Pichilemu, Chile, is popularly known as "El Sin Pelos en la Lengua", meaning "The One Without Mince Words"?

reads very oddly to my UK eyes/ears. For readers here, mince is ground meat. Surely it should be "minced" words? 86.152.23.176 (talk) 08:20, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    • Comment I agree, and so does the target article Mario Moraga, which says exactly that. Assuming it's just a typo and not some strange BrE/AmE usage thing, can we change it please? (Actually even if it is a usage thing it should arguably match the article, no?) Thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 08:30, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
