Thank you a million times! Your friend in cyberspace, GingerLeader 15:51, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

I added a well-deserved new barnstar to your User page, and put them all in a table for you, I hope you don't mind.

hndis

Thanks for the heads up on {{hndis}}. I was just doing some (Northern Hemisphere) “spring cleaning” to get articles with surnames to sort by them instead of given names. Changing out all of the hndis uses looks like a job for a ’bot. — Bellhalla 13:38, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About changing article title

Thanks for the quick reply. I had wanted to change the article title "Harold Klemp" to "Sri Harold Klemp" for the reason listed on the talk page. Thanks for the info, I can definitely understand while waiting 4 days is required. —This unsigned comment was added by Celebrityguyxy (talkcontribs) .

Consensus by a landslide

Sorry for suggesting two articles be merged? That's good form. No apology needed. What a good discussion it started, pressing us to think and rationalise about the processes (and to question edits that have come before). Hopefully we'll edit as much on the articles as we did on the comment page. Cheers, Daniel Collins 05:27, 16 March 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Hey Commander

Hello there. I just joined Wiki today, and dove in (be bold?) by drive-by-editing the first portion of the the Mach 3 entry. Would you help me out by telling me if I "overdid" my edit for clarity in the first section? Also this razor is called the "Mach3" by Gillette, they oughta' know they own it. How does that get added (leaving the "Mach 3" since that's everywhere as well).

Looking forward to your help! : ) —This unsigned comment was added by Ziggles Metropolitan (talkcontribs) .

Is there a "Workspace?"

Hey there! Quick question ... is there a way to create a temporary "working" page for content I'm working on? It would be nice to have a place (not as public as the sandbox) to test edits and formatting changes. Other than "my talk" page, is there a way to add a temporary or "placeholder" page as an editing space? Thanks for your help! Ziggles Metropolitan 00:03, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Commander Keane,

Dan Kogan, an ordained teacher of the Hamsa Yoga Sangh cult has been creating havoc for the past weeks by relentlessly inserting the name of his guru, his guru's book, quotes from his guru's book, and external link to their website on the following articles Kriya yoga, Mahavatar Babaji, Nath, and Adi Nath when the majority of the editors (actually all of them) who are experts on the subject agree that his guru is illegitimate, his inserts does not enrich (add anything substantial) the already existing articles, and only aims to promore the personal interest of their organization.

This person wants to turn WP into a propaganda material for a highly questionable (possibly harmful) pseudo-Hindu cult while pretending to be an impartial concerned Wikipedian who only wants to enrich it. The situation is really bad. He has just been banned but as soon as he gets unbanned he begins to relentlessly vandalize the pages with irrelevant and immaterial cult propaganda once again.

It is futile to try and protect the integrity of an article when someone like this person Hamsacharya dan, like the Energizer Bunny, keeps on reverting them and gets away with it without being taught a lesson.

To see for yourself that Hamsacharya dan is really an ordained teacher of the cult he keeps on inserting to the articles and not just a concerned Wikipedian with no alterior motive, please see the following website [List of Authorized Teachers] and scroll down a bit for Hamsacharya Dan Kogan.

Please help us. Will you help us?

Thanking you in advance,

No To Frauds 11:48, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just regarding the 'Penrhos' article and its deprodding: It seems to me that it's just vanity. The history of the house may be of interest, but a search for "Penrhos Knights" on Google returns only the WikiPedia page. Surely the history could be total fiction, especially since the rest of the article is about how they have lots of storage for drinks and weapons to defend themselves.

If the article really is notable, then I'll say no more, but I just wanted to be sure. Drop us a reply with your decision.

Many thanks, and I apologise if I'm forcing the point...

Disambiguation Black Patch - Black Patch PARK

Dear Commander Keane.

Sorry I've posted this elsewhere as well.

Thanks for past help. Can you assist with resolving confusion between Black Patch and Black Patch park. It seems to me and others with whom i have spoken about these two articles that it would make things a lot lot more straightforward if the two were combined under the heading "Black Patch Park". I say this becasue that title is rarer and therefore less ambiguous than "Black Patch" which occurs (as you'll see if you google 'Black Patch"). Can you establish who is the main author of Black Patch so that I can suggest this? The person who is the local history expert and who i thought had written most of it is not the author (Ted Rudge) and Ted agrees with my proposal. Can you help?

Browsebar

Hi Commander Keane. Based on the discussion we had at Wikipedia talk:Questions, I thought you may be interested in commenting about {{browsebar}} at Template talk:Browsebar#Is this bar useful?. I have the feeling that some people are concerned with global "usability" which transforms individual articles like Wikipedia:Questions into flashy things which are rather unusable. Your insights on this matter are appreciated. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 16:56, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. This is in reference to this edit, which took out both an AfD notice and a Speedy Delete for a blatant copyright violation notice. IP Block, 24.97.51.118

Hi there- I've been actively monitoring contributions made to Cheverus High School, and have contacted the teacher sponsoring article edits for use in an assignments. This teacher says she will appropriately mark students who did not contribute correctly and/or vandalized the pages (and hopefully lecture the students on how not to use Wikipedia), so I think revocation of a block for 24.97.51.118 is in order. Upon further investigation with the school, it is the only IP the school uses to access the internet. Chris Saribay 19:57, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the update, I will pursue this further. Best regards, Hall Monitor 20:15, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Helpme

Thanks. I am trying to get permission from the AP to use one of its photos on my new article, Richard C. Casey. I copied and pasted the "Boilerplate" example of a permission request from Wikipedia, asking them for permission under GFDL. I'm new at this, so I just need a little help. They responded and said:

After reading a bit of the Wikipedia license it states "permission is granted to copy, distribute and/ or modify...". We could grant access for AP Images to appear on Wikipedia but could not allow our images to be copied, distributed or modified by any user of Wikipedia. Please let me know if you would have interest using our images under these terms.

Is that acceptable? What should I do? --Hyphen5 22:02, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Penrhos

Hi there. You recently contacted me regarding the Penrhos article. I can confirm that all the information within the article is correct. The reference to 'Military supremacy' is in accordance with the current factual weaponry statistics. We are currently experiencing a period of enduring peace and tranquility at Penrhos, rendering the weapons purely as a deterrent.

We appreciate the fact that there are very few other resources documenting the activities of Penrhos but as a non-commercial and selective organisation we have no need to publicise ourselves any further than the historical reference on Wikipedia.

Kind Regards,

GW Knight of Penrhos

Hi, I just finished working on a biography of Abraham Serfaty (short bio available only on the french wikipedia), but I didn't save it yet as I really have no clue whatsoever on what they're talking about in the copyrights section (I need help understanding the copyrights' help section!!!), I don't know where to mention that this article is an original work and not copied from someone else, and if I need to mention that at all. Can you please help me? last question: should I nonetheless save the page, so you can have a look at it? Thanks --Angelikmeg 21:45, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's me again and I just saved the page by mistake. I meant to preview it as I just added links... Hope you get to see it before it gets deleted or worse, nominated for the grand prize of copyright issues. Let me know what you think about it. thanks, yours faithfully --Angelikmeg 21:57, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, it's in the translation archive now, thank you so much for your help and precious advices. I knew I could count on you! however, I didn't start the talk page for the article as the french version does cite the source, and since there is a link to the french version in the english version anyways, I thought it would only be a repetition. Thanks again --Angelikmeg 23:11, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Helpme!

Catholic Church. It has been a redirect to Roman Catholic Church for months, and there is a vote underway to change it to a disambig page. (But most editors have opposed it in the vote.) In the meantime, people have been preempting the vote, making a disambig page anyway, and there's basically a revert war going on. --Hyphen5 06:21, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. --Hyphen5 06:28, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The consensus has already been established that Catholic Church and Roman Catholic Church are not synonymous. Protecting the page as a redirect makes the terms defacto synonymous. The discussion Hyphen5 refers to is whether to temporarily make it a disambig page, and in fact most editors have said either yes, or no rather merge the other three articles asap as per our earlier consensus. Why are you taking the minority opinion here? Fishhead64 07:33, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Commander Keane, could you please revert the protected Catholic Church article to this version? I do support the protect, but it seems the current version does not reflect consensus or policy. Please contact me if you require more details. [I'm not involved in the dispute. I visited the article since it's listed at the mediation cabal; I was asked to take a case and needed to know more of the process.] Thanks! AvB ÷ talk 08:20, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There is a consensus. 15 editors opposed renaming "Roman Catholic Church" "Catholic Church" (compared to 5 in support). A redirect accomplishes the same purposes through the backdoor. In the second survey, five editors support a temporary disambig at Catholic Church, 3 oppose unconditionally, and 2 oppose because they want the merge done immediately. Moreover, Hyphen5 himself has said in Talk:Roman Catholic Church and Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/2006-03-23_Roman Catholic Church that he supports the merge proposal. The consensus is clearly against a redirect. Fishhead64 08:39, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reasonableness about this matter. I'm hoping we find an amicable solution as well. Fishhead64 08:53, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hang on a minute! Why do you think there are not two sides to this story? That's exactly why you should protect Catholic Church. Fishhead is spinning the details. There has been a redirect from Catholic Church to Roman Catholic Church for months now. Recently, I proposed a move from Roman Catholic Church to Catholic Church. This failed, as Fishhead notes, by 15-5. But then Fishhead offered a compromise whereby Catholicism, Catholic, and One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church (which all contain redundant material) would all be merged into Catholic Church. I cautiously supported that, but I wanted to see the merges done before there was yet another redundant disambiguation page at Catholic Church. Anyway, the other day JzG went ahead and switched Catholic Church from a redirect to a disambiguation without consulting any other editor. Since then, there has been a revert war. Fishhead has put the issue (whether Catholic Church should be a disambig) up for a vote at Talk:Roman Catholic Church#Survey 2, and a majority opposes his and JzG's disambiguation page. That is why I reverted it to a redirect -- as was the status quo for months -- and asked you to protect it. The fact is, people didn't want to move Roman Catholic Church to Catholic Church because there are several denominations that claim to be "catholic" in nature. However, there is support for a redirect (and a disambiguation link at the top) because that recognizes the simple fact that the overwhelming majority of people who type in "Catholic Church" are looking for our article Roman Catholic Church. PLEASE protect the Catholic Church article as a redirect, as it has been for a very long time. There is an ongoing vote about this very issue, and it's not proper for them to be trying to preempt it. --Hyphen5 12:25, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would appreciate a response. --Hyphen5 20:17, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Conversation with AvB

That applies to the original protection request. I think it would be best if you would visit the discussion at Talk:Roman Catholic Church and assess whether consensus has already been reached as indicated by me. If you think it hasn't, please attempt to resolve the dispute. I guess my real point is that this causes the temperature to rise even higher which is not conducive to the consensus process. Honoring my request is one solution, the other being your presence on the talk page to explain and to attempt to resolve the dispute. AvB ÷ talk 09:01, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note to say the page is not listed at Wikipedia:List_of_protected_pages AvB ÷ talk 09:09, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

French dissambiguation in irony mark

Hi Commander,

I noticed that you did a bot dissambiguation on the newly-created article (or, rather, newly-translated) irony mark. I appreciate it, but I also noticed that you removed the French definition (with its subsidiary link to the fr counterpart). While I'm not adamantly opposed to this, I think I should let you know that I put that fr definition for a reason, and I would like to know your rationale for removing it.

I've noticed that articles in which an additional-language definition is important have included it in the first paragraph description (such as the articles on Canadian parliament and Canadian government offices, which always include the fr equivalent immediatelly after the en term is mentioned. In this case, the article on the irony mark is a direct translation of the fr article, and as such, the title itself is a translation of the subject of the article. As far as I know, there is no pre-existing en name for "point d'ironie, so that the translation that I've included is, in effect, akin to a neologism. Therefore, I believe that it is important to include the original fr terms, so that the linguistic roots of the en terminology may be apparent. I would like to re-post that definition, but would first like to hear your reasoning.

Thanks for your attention. Rod ESQ 05:02, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the restoration of the translation. I can see how the actual link to the fr article would contravene guidelines. I'm fine with the plain translation, sans fr link. Rod ESQ 06:02, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help request in "welcome" messages

I noticed your observations on the talk pages of User:Rory096 and User:TBC to the effect that a "welcome" message left by each turned out to include "helpme" as a template; looking at the edit histories of the talk pages to which they posted their welcomes, it appears that, as here, ZsingjBot, using AWB, substituted the template, removing "code" "/code" syntax from the "helpme" and "four tildes" components of the welcome message. Perhaps Zsinj should be advised that AWB usage is disfavored on user talk pages and that, in any case, there are places at which templates are not meant to be fully expressed. Cordially, Joe 02:32, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: ZsinjBot

I'd love to discuss it. I've previously recieved a message from Jfingers88 stating me of the problem. I immediately stoped it's operation. After analyzing the problem edits, as noticed in the pause in the contributions, I then resumed ZsinjBot doing every edit manually. I might have been going too fast, hence the autoblock, for which I appologize. If there is anything else you would like to discuss, we can do it here on your talk page. --ZsinjTalk 02:49, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, I intentionally did not tough the tl|. It must have been an accident on my part when I was going through the diffs. Thanks for catching that "screw up." --ZsinjTalk 03:06, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have since found and corrected my error. I would like your explicit permission to continue the bot, specifically on those pages which include the code it was wrongfully changing. Thanks. --ZsinjTalk 03:18, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly oppose your move and subsequent deletion (un-disambiguation) of the Soviet (disambiguation) page. I hope you only intended this as a temporary measure.

I plan to create a new disambiguation page for Soviet. The present contents should be moved to Soviet (russian word) and Soviet redirected to Soviet Union.

Regarding Northrop Grumman

The problem is that Sarah crane and Henrik is what's based on their personal opinion and negative views of this company especially reading poorly sourced information and materials not even related to the subject. They don't know much about it and they keep pushing it forward insisting it's "correct" when in fact it is not thus resulting in a POV that is not acceptable. It's just as bad as the myth that people were pushing which claimed that the Pentagon admitted they called White Phosphorus "chemical weapons" in a HUMINT report when in fact two brothers thought it was chemical weapons. Wikipedia:Peer review/Northrop Grumman

Hi again. Things have gotten worse over at Wikipedia:Peer review/Northrop Grumman. I worked very hard on that article, and I've tried to be nice to everyone, but Izuko has accusing me of all sorts of things and deleting parts of the article he disagrees with. I'm about to give up on the article because I don't need all this hassle, but I'm not sure what to do. If you could get involved, I'd be very grateful. Thanks. Re: Username

Greetings Commander Keane,

You can't see into my mind...can you?!?!? It's actually very strange you mentioned my username as I found out about name changes a day or two ago and was thinking about changing my name. When I made my account, I wasn't fussy about my name and just started randomly typing (hence the reason only 3s, 4s, and 5s appear in my name). As it stands, I'm taking up your offer of changing my name to 334, but as I read the create account page, it says my name must have "a capitalized first letter". We'll see how things turn out. Thanks for the link, --3345345335534 19:55, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Me, again :-)

Keane, would you be able to have a look at the last entry on the talk page here ... [4] ... the talk page for the user making the changes is intriguing. TIA! Sandy 02:59, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Similar situation here ... I think all of these may be vandalism, but I really don't know? What is the course of action? [5] Sandy 03:33, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Keane -- that was what I needed (to know how to handle such situations, so I don't have to keep bothering you :-) The second case seems to be more clear, but my concern about the first is that it seems to be a case (???) of burying vandalism among changes that appear legit -- that is what was done on the TS page (see talk page [6]) Might need to be looked at in depth. Thanks again! Sandy 14:15, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
PS - I just spent some time looking at recent contributions -- I'm not sure if it would be productive for me to spend the time going back and correcting them all (oh my gosh - I don't know what is accurate and what's not)? Here's an example of what looks like an inappropriate edit, with a misleading edit summary: [7] Sandy 14:22, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Interesting bot edit

I'm just automating the work of correcting the newsletter dates. See that in everyone of the talk pages User:Fetofsbot2 is editing the Newsletters issues #2 and #1 have the exact same date (Esperanza forgot to change it before sending it). As the template is subst'ed and not transcluded, this is necessary (but it's just a minor fix). Fetofs Hello! 13:46, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have noticed that some people have been rude to you recently, and I'm sorry to see that. You're a good guy. Thanks for all you do around here! Sarah crane 15:12, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Protection

How did I come up with that tag? Simply because I could find nothing whatsoever protecting the image in any way. Feel free to change the licence or get a new image, - √αʑʑρεř 06:40, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Keane, I neither have the knowledge or the inclination to change anything regarding that particular picture. If you really have a problem with it, change it yourself. √αʑʑρεř 09:09, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

But could you please find another image that you deem acceptable by copyright. √αʑʑρεɾ 03:36, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

As usual, Thanks! JP 08:41, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Generaly a nice job on the disambig repair. I found quite a few role-playing games that you directed to the horror (video games) rather than the horror fiction article. Horror (video games) is just a redirect to horror fiction, I fixed all the ones I could find. — Asatruer 03:00, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did the links to horror (video games) on purpose to facilitate the creation of an article in the future. I guess removing them doesn't do any harm.--Commander Keane 07:03, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

All of the articles that I fixed the horror link on were role-playing game articles, and not video game articles. So for future use a horror (video games) stand alone article would not be appropriate for these role-playing game articles to link to. — Asatruer 16:18, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

talk page

I thank you for your offer of help, and I am waiting on my talk page. :)

Disambiguation

Republican nearly all disambigauted: apart from about 5 problem pages, only user and talk pages remaining. --BrownHairedGirl 16:07, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply on my talk. I have had a further go at them, and can only see about three now, but maybe I'm miscounting again. However, over a dozen were added since my last edit yesterday :(
I am usually too lazy to bother notifing the editors responsible, so I have created Template:Dabhelp, intended to make it easier to leave a note on a talk page explaining to an editor how to avoid this. It works like this: {{subst:dabhelp|Republican|Republican Party (United States)}}
Would you perhaps be kind enough to take a look at it and let me know what you think? Thanks! --BrownHairedGirl 14:50, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your further reply. Have raised it on WT:DPL as suggested.

I thought for a sec your bot passed the turing test.

I saw your bot's action on World without end and thought, how did a bot make that decision to remove wikifying from debut. That seemed pretty close to passing the turing test to me, so I wondered how it worked. I'm sorry to say that it was apparently you that passed the turing test, and not some remarkable technology. However, it looks like a good productivity tool. -- thanx for your service.--Technicaltechy 04:29, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion tool

Where did you see that deletion tool? I don't see it listed on his tool page. I'm wondering what other fun tools I might be missing out on :) - cohesiont 08:38, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I heard about Interiot's deleted edits tool[8] in IRC, and then I bookmarked it. I'm not sure if it is completely kosher, because Kate had to shut off his deleted edits feature a while back (due to edit summaries revealing personal details). But this tool hides the edit summaries. So maybe it's not listed for security, or Interiot just forgot.--Commander Keane 09:59, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, a secret tool, haha. Thanks for the info :) - cohesiont 17:39, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just curious, what is the reason behind not linking excess things on disambig pages? Tnikkel 22:17, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a title

I was tring to add a title on wikipedia and when i saved it the ffg appeared : "{{nonsense}}' so I immediayely deleted the article.the article was basically about the oldest school in my home town umkomaas and the school's history.
