::Then it is relevant, as the battle would likely be known as the "Battle of Kharkov" rather than "Battle of Kharkiv" (the second paragraph of [[WP:MODERNPLACENAME]] has some details and examples). Revision as of 23:52, 15 March 2013

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 21:32 on 8 August 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Kharki/Kharkov

Can some administrator please change Kharkov into Kharkiv in today's "On this day..."(to reflect common English usage & for consistency within this article + others + the Wikipedia article on Kharkiv; the city is called Kharkiv in todays common English hence it should also be referred to as Kharkiv on Wikipedia's main page). — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 02:03, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What was the city commonly called in 1943? The bold-linked article is titled "Third Battle of Kharkov". —David Levy 02:11, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is it relevant what the city was called in 1943... We are not in 1943 are we? Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names) clearly states "Use modern English names for titles and in articles". These days Kharkiv is used (see here and here). — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 02:20, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

But it seems the city was commonly called Kharkov in 1943. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 02:24, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Then it is relevant, as the battle would likely be known as the "Battle of Kharkov" rather than "Battle of Kharkiv" (the second paragraph of WP:MODERNPLACENAME has some details and examples). If that is the case, it's best to have the link to the city article as Kharkov as well for consistency. Chamal TC 02:36, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed; WP:NC(Geographical names) says “if…the article deals only with a place in a period when it held a different name, the widely accepted historical English name should be used”. So "Kharkov" is correct. Xyl 54 (talk) 23:52, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Liverpool F.C.

The team's site says the club was founded in 3 June 1892... (http://www.liverpoolfc.com/kids/history-of-lfc). Perhaps the retrieval data (which is 15 march) mixed up with it? --Ed.capistrano (talk) 11:01, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

History of Liverpool F.C. says, However, on the 4th of February, 1892, the Football Council decided that it would not approve the creation of another club named Everton, on the basis that the name bears resemblance to an existing member. Liverpool F.C. was formally established on 15 March 1892. This is also cited to the team's site: Liverpool F.C. was formed on the 15th of March 1892. It was at John Houlding's house in Anfield Road that he and his closest friends left from Everton FC, formed a new club... However, it was not until 3rd June that the name Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Ltd was formally recognised by the Board of Trade. howcheng {chat} 15:52, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
