It is a love story that takes place in a tiny, traditional, picturesque village from Yucatán, which is dedicated mainly to the growth of habanero chile (a very spicy and hot type of pepper); it is a hot place and so it is the passion of its inhabitants.
Rosendo Arango ([[Cesar Evora]]), the owner of ''Grupo La Anita'', is married to Alfonsina ([[Blanca Guerra]]). They have one son, Damian ([[David Zepeda]]). Estefania Bouvier ([[Ludwika Paleta]]) is married to Augusto Castanon ([[Alejandro Camacho]]) and they have one daughter, Elisa ([[Angelique Boyer]]). Rosendo cheats on his wife with Carmina Bouvier ([[Sabine Moussier]]), Estefania's sister.
Augusto Castañón and Estefanía Berger de Castañón are Elisa’s parents. With them lives Carmina, Estefanía’s sister, who is about to run away from town with Rosendo Arango. Alfonsina, his wife, finds this out and alerts Augusto about it. On the other hand, Estefanía tries to discourage Rosendo from leaving his family; however, they die in a car accident. Carmina takes advantage of this situation and makes Augusto believe that his wife was cheating on him.

Out of spite, Augusto gets married with Carmina even though he is not in love with her. On the other hand, Alfonsina decides to send her son, Damián, to study abroad in order to keep him away from Elisa, who is close friends with him, and who obviously, Alfonsina doesn’t approve.
One day, Rosendo and Carmina try to go away from La Ermita. But, Estefania, who had found out about their plans, wants to prevent this, shuts Carmina in her room and then goes with Rosendo in his car, trying to convince him not to run away with Carmina. They have an accident and die and everyone thinks they were lovers. Ramona ([[Raquel Olmedo]]), a witch and folk healer, witnesses the accident and hears Estefania's last words.
Years later, Damián returns to town as an adult and engaged with Florencia Landuchi, whom he met while studying in a boarding school in Italy. Paolo Landuchi, Florencia’s uncle, is impressed by Elisa’s beauty, but she is not attracted to him, so he tries to rape her having Carmina as an accomplice.

Damián falls in love with Elisa and she feels the same way about him; this situation makes his old friend Gael become his rival, as he has been in love with Elisa ever since they were kids. Augusto finds out about the relationship between Damián and Elisa and, hounded by the betrayal ghosts of Rosendo and Estefanía, he threatens Elisa with killing Damián. Elisa accepts to marry Gael to save Damián’s life, decision that deeply hurts Paloma, her best friend, since she has always been in love with Gael.
Gael ([[Mark Tacher]]) grew up with Alfonsina's brother, priest Guadalupe Mondragon ([[Rene Casados]]). His mother is Ingrid Navarro ([[Isabella Camil]]) but she had abandoned him. Paloma ([[Livia Brito]]) lives with her grandmother, Ramona, and is in love with Gael. Both Damian and Gael fall in love with Elisa. It is revealed that Gael's real father was Rosendo. Gabino Mendoza ([[Salvador Zerboni]]) always worked at "Grupo La Anita" and he wants to be the boss of it and Alfonsina's lover. Damian gets married to Florencia Landucci ([[Altair Jarabo]]).
Damián refuses to lose the love of his life, so he manages to prevent Elisa from marrying Gael. The two young guys confront each other and, in order to avoid a tragedy, father Guadalupe intervenes revealing them that they are half-brothers, since they are both Rosendo’s sons.

In the end, it is disclosed that it was Carmina, and not Estefanía, the one who was going to escape with Rosendo, so Augusto accepts the marriage between his daughter and Damián. Gael also accepts that Elisa loves Damián and that he is just a friend to her, so he decides to take Paloma’s love and find his happiness next to her.
Chente lives with his mother and with his presumed father Braulio ([[Francisco Gattorno]]). It is later revealed that his real father is Gabino. Gabino buries Ingrid Navarro alive because she had found out Carmina and Rosendo were in fact lovers. Gabino also orders Horacio to put Don Elizondo's ([[Eric del Castillo]]) store on fire but his wife, Blanca ([[Dacia Gonzalez]]), Elisa's godmother, is traped inside and burns to death. Carmina kills Augusto because Ramona had told him that Rosendo and she were lovers. Carmina also kills priest Guadalupe who had also found out about Carmina and Rosendo. Gael gets married to Paloma. Alfonsina allows Damian and Elisa to get married.
This is a fascinating story about four youngsters, whose destinies and happiness are seriously damaged by the resentment, the ambition, and the betrayal that rules in the adults’ world.
In the series finale, Damian and Elisa get married. Gabino plants a snake in Elisa's basket and she is bitten by it. Carmina hits Elisa in her head and then kidnaps Damian. Gabino reveals Paloma that he is his real father and he hits Chente. Alfonsina comes to Gabino and asks him where Damian is; he attempts to rape. Gael and everyone find out that Gabino buried Ingrid alive and that he is also responsible for Guadalupe's death as he had ordered Horacio to burn her store when she was inside.

Damian wants to escape from Carmina's detention but Gabino arrives and Carmina and him trap him again. Carmina phones Alfonsina and tells her to give her money in exchange for Damian's freedom. On a rainy day, Carmina and Gabino try to run away from the village but Ramona leaves a carriage in their way to stop them and they have a car accident; Carmina is traped under the car but Gabino doesn't help her and tries to run away with the money. Elisa arrives at the place of the accident. Gael runs after Gabino and then the police arrests him. Carmina ends up with both of her legs amputated and then kills herself. After a while, at a party, Gael is with Paloma and their 2 small girls; Elisa and Damian are with their small boy; Florencia comes with her husband and an adopted girl; pregnant Lolita comes with Braulio and other guests.

Abismo de pasión (Abyss of Passion) is a Mexican telenovela produced by Angelli Nesma Medina and written by Caridad Bravo Adams for Televisa.

It is a remake of Cañaveral de Pasiones, produced by Humberto Zurita and Christian Bach in 1996. Both telenovelas are based on Caridad Bravo Adams's original story, divided into two novels, and published in 1959: Una sombra entre los dos and Al pie del altar.[2][3] Angelique Boyer and David Zepeda star as the protagonists, co-starring Mark Tacher and Livia Brito, while Blanca Guerra, Alejandro Camacho, Altair Jarabo, Sabine Moussier and Salvador Zerboni star as the antagonists.

History

Canal de las Estrellas broadcasted Abismo de pasion from January 23 to September 2, 2012, replacing Dos Hogares.[4][5] Univision confirmed a prime-time airing of Abismo de pasion on March 5, 2012.[6] From March 12[7][8] to November 5, 2012,[9] Univision broadcasted Abismo de pasión weeknights at 9pm/8c, replacing El Talismán.[10] Though 250 half-hour episodes were planned to be produced,[11] 20 more were produced with a total of 270.[12]
