Ever After High is an American web series and a fashion doll franchise released by Mattel in July 2013. It is a companion line to the popular Monster High dolls. However, in this line the characters are based upon characters from fairy tales and fantasy stories instead of monsters. As with Monster High and Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse, the line varies in different countries and varies in languages.

Storyline

Ever After High is a boarding school located in the Fairytale World. It is attended by the teenage children of fairy tale characters, destined to follow in their parents' footsteps and keep their stories alive throughout the generations. Supposedly, if they don't follow their individual destinies, their stories will cease to exist and they will disappear forever according to Headmaster Milton Grimm. This problem is the core conflict of the story.

The main characters are Raven Queen (who does not want to be evil like her mother the Evil Queen) and Apple White (the daughter of Snow White who is destined to live "happily ever after" after being victimized by Raven). Raven would prefer to be free to create her own destiny while Apple (in order to protect her own "happily ever after") believes that Raven should become the next Evil Queen.

The school is divided into two groups "Royals" and "Rebels". The Royals are the students on Apple White's side who embrace their destinies and are content with their fates. The Rebels are the students on Raven Queen's side who prefer the idea of creating their own destinies.

Characters

  • Apple White (voiced by Jonquil Goode[1]) - The daughter of Snow White. She has light blond hair, light skin, and pale blue eyes.[2] She is described as a "motivated, smart, and natural-born leader" and aspires to be a Royal, following in the footsteps of her mother.[3] She is roommates with Raven Queen. Her favorite subject is Kingdom Management and her least favorite is Cooking. Her secret heart's desire is for people to know her as the fairest on of all on the inside as well as the outside.[2]
  • Poppy O'Hair (voiced by Lindsay Ames) - The daughter of Rapunzel and the sister of Holly O'Hair.[16]
  • Lizzie Hearts (voiced by Wendee Lee) - The daughter of Queen of Hearts.[17]
  • Blondie Lockes (voiced by Julie Maddalena Kliewer[18]) - The daughter of Goldilocks.[19]
  • C.A. Cupid (voiced by Erin Fitzgerald) - The daughter of Eros: God of Love from Greek mythology.[20]

Ever After High has a series of animated shorts on YouTube.[24] Some of the YouTube shorts have been re-edited into longer episodes that are available to watch on Netflix, along with new episodes that are advertised as "Netflix Originals." [25][26]

Book series

There is an Ever After High book trilogy, written by Shannon Hale and published by Little, Brown and Company:The first book, titled "The Storybook of Legends",[27] was released in October 2013. The second book, "The Unfairest of Them All", was released in March 2014. The third book, "A Wonderlandiful World", was released in August 2014.[28]
