:::I have no interest in defending [[Prime minister]] over [[Prime Minister]]; my goal is to determine which is more appropriate (given naming conventions) for the article title. how-to on a template you created

Hi, it seems you created the template:merge-multiple ? I want to use it for a whole series of articles but I don't know how to use the optional Discuss parameter. Strangely enough, when I try to simply specify a talk page as the last parameter it doesn't work ;) but I don't know how to specify the "discuss" parameter name. I looked around to see what articles linked to the template but I couldn't find one with a long list of articles which specified a single talk page. TIA,--Garrie 00:03, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Use {{merge-multiple|Article 1|Article 2|Article 3|...|Article X|discuss=Talk:Article 1}}, for example. -- tariqabjotu (joturner) 00:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help at "Jesus in Islam" article

Hi Joturner,

Just wondering if you might be interested to work a bit of Jesus related articles. I have started working on Islam and anti-Semitism. The quality of that article was horrible when I touched it (and still it is). As to the Islamic view of Jesus' death, I have found these material on how western scholars explain Muslim view on death of Jesus[1] but didn't get to add them to the article. I'm sure one can find much more sources (by searching in books.google.com). Just thought you may like working on that article. If not, it is perfectly okay. I'll take care of that article later. Islam and anti-Semitism also needs much work BTW. --Aminz 09:27, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

Hi Abjotu,

I completely understand your position in my RfA. I thank you for showing the confidence in me initially, and also for having the courage to change your !vote. Why? because it takes a lot of courage to switch from support of a candidate one knows personally. I hold you in high regard and assure you that you will keep on seeing positives from my side, and at the same time, I will try my best to keep the "negatives" to the minimum. Regards, — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 15:51, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Updated DYK query On 10 August, 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Capital Area Food Bank, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Hi!

Hi again, Tariqabjotu!

Would you mind re-proposing Opus Dei for GA? It was struck out from the list after some people thought it was biased. Mediation committee recently ruled it is actually NPOV. Thought you might want to know. :-) Lafem 11:05, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Tariqabjotu. I must say a really big thank you for the first edit day road sign you gave me. Having driven on both sets of roads, I must agree that not only are the signs easier, but also the roads are nicer (if you like fast driving ;)

Thanks for the BTTF relist and correction

Thank you for correcting my error on the request for renaming on the Back to the Future trilogy. How long should it last until the renaming takes place? (I will have a lot of edits to do if it is moved, but I am prepared for that. :)) - LA @ 06:58, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Move requests normally last about five days, so it should be closed on August 17 or August 18. How come you will have a lot of work to do if it's moved? Are you referring to changing all the links? -- tariqabjotu (joturner) 13:49, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am referring to the change of the links, since I am the one who wants it moved. I am not looking forward to it but will do it if it happens. - LA @ 14:00, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Are you familiar with AutoWikiBrowser; it makes the process much easier. Back in June, I replaced 800 images in about four hours or so. However, you don't have nearly as many things to change. -- tariqabjotu (joturner) 14:03, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Coach disambiguation page

First of all, thank you for completing the move of Coach to Coach (vehicle). Could you also please complete the second part of the request, which would be to move Coach (disambiguation) to Coach? I realize that a redirect was created, but actually having the dab page there would be more helpful and look a little "neater". Thanks. SchuminWeb (Talk) 15:47, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not an admin, so I can't perform the move myself. I often take care of as many moves as possible at WP:RM because they're often neglected by administrators and because I want to leave as little work for the admins when they get around to it (note that frequent appearance of the {{adminbacklog}} template). I could, however, refer you to one (or contact one myself) if you so desire. -- tariqabjotu (joturner) 15:52, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Disciple (disambig) move page.

Not that this is a huge deal, but I left off the big survey format intentionally. I'd hoped that move would have been speedied, since it was a completely non-controversial move that would have solved a double-redirect, and if there was chatter, it didn't need to be done in full out debate format.

Anyway, not to be too direct, but if you do want to oppose the move, can you at least drop off some opinions as to why? (Edit: Upon looking more closely, I see that I may have misread your intent. Sorry if you were only there to help out by adding that format; I got the impression you wanted to oppose the move as well- which maybe you do, but I suppose we'll see.) SnowFire 02:40, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want to oppose the move, and I'm not going to support it either. Since I'm trying to clear out the move request backlog, I'd like to stay impartial on discussions, staying out of things. However, I would like to add that one issue regarding the move is that it has been made possible only because of a not-so-benign move. Of course, not all moves need to be approved via WP:RM, so it's not like you were in the wrong to do that move. However, some may object to your current proposed move (Disciple (disambiguation)Disciple) if they believe Disciple (Christianity) should be at Disciple. And thus, I feel the survey / discussion section should be there; if no one brings up that objection, the desired move should be performed on August 30 or August 31. -- tariqabjotu 02:51, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps I should rephrase. I knew that that would be a possible area of contention, and I did in fact wait for a bit on the talk page to see if anyone had any comments. However, I thought that the Disambig page should definitely go to Disciple now, and the possible switching of the pages around could be decided later- as in, have a vote on either Disciple and Disciple (disambig) (with the main page being Christian-related, which is what I originally prefered before changing my mind- if I'd known at the time, I'd have moved the page then, and started the disambig page anew at the main page) or else Disciple and Disciple (Christian). Having the main Disciple page be a redirect seems a bad idea to me- I'd have no problem at all if, say, the disambig page got moved now, but in the debate, something closer to the original split happened. In that case, it'd still be easy to "undo" the change, by moving Disciple -> Disambig and Disciple (C)->Disciple. The uncontroversial part was that the main Disciple page should be filled with something.

But no matter. One of the Wikipedia mottos is "Wikipedia is not on a deadline", so if it happens slower, it's no huge tragedy. SnowFire 03:06, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have been nominated for adminship

I beat you to it (I had the page on my watchlist). I'm sorry, but I'll have to decline the nomination. Since I see quite a few people have been asking me about adminship, I'll loosen up on the October idea. Perhaps three admins (instead of the two I mention at User:Tariqabjotu/Rationale) will convince me to finally accept a nomination before October. -- tariqabjotu 05:20, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:The Graph

Thanks, though you did most of the grunt work (entering the data). I've done a massive amount of Excel graph work at uni and my last job so I though I would be able to do something like that :) I agree, I'd like to see that graph with user data. If you fancy doing that go ahead- I'm supposed to be busy now (doing work in real world). Let me know if you want me to do it though. I'd recommend using whatever data includes the greatest number of users because often it is the few edit users that cause the most work for admins, so no point only counting the more experienced users. Info on Islamophobic group

Hello,

What follows are the thoughts, expressed in their own words, and in the 'protest signs', of the obscure, very small, but very vocal 'activist group' known as "Protest Warrior".

"What's becoming clear is how the religion of Islam is addicted to war and mayhem. Not a radical minority, not a rogue sect, but its very essence is about submission and sacrifice and proving your worth by worshipping death in this life to gain a paradise of orgies and drunkenness. Their entire history is of warfare, and any accomplishments of their so-called Golden Age has been proven to be merely parasitic off the cultures they've conquered and reduced to dhimmi servitude. That every country under sharia is corrupt, belligerent, desolate and barbaric obviously gives them no pause, except to constantly drive them into further psychotic rage as they refuse to ever accept any responsibility for their conditions. They are akin to the powers in Orwell's 1984; there must always be an enemy. It's no surprise that women are treated like property in these countries as that's the only way Muslim men can feed their egos, to dominate others rather than ever actually produce something."

Kfir Alfia and Alan Lipton, founders of "Protest Warrior"

Their 'protest signs'...

Signs

I thought you might be interested in this group's sentiments. They are currently very actively editing their own article on Wiki and there is a lot of 'group think'. Perhaps you might want to become involved in the editing and discussion process on that page. If you do, please don't vandalize, and try to remain civil. Should you not want to involve youself, please forgive my intrusion.

Move

I'd probably make a bigger mess of it! Would you mind posting the request on WP:AN to ask someone to do it. If you're still stuck, you can get back to me, but I'm no expert on the moving business, I'm afraid. Tyrenius 01:30, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes... something like that... Alex Bakharev has prevented that situation. -- tariqabjotu 01:41, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you've got it sorted. Tyrenius 01:44, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tariqabjotu. You're right that the suggested discussion template for discussing page moves wasn't used, but see here: Talk:Exodus (organization)#Page title. There were no objections, and this is a procedural request because a redirect already exists. As the article makes clear, the name of the organization is Exodus International. Thanks. Fireplace 01:33, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's quite common for low-profile articles, like Exodus (organization), to not receive much input, even over long periods of time. Creating a new survey / discussion section (along with adding to WP:RM) helps solicit input from users who normally would not visit page in question. Nevertheless, you can always contact an admin (I am not one) if you disagree and feel the page should be moved immediately. -- tariqabjotu 01:38, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for participating in my RFA, which closed successfully today with a result of (62/18/3). I will go very carefully at first, trying to make sure I don't mess up too badly using the tools, and will begin by re-reading all the high-quality feedback I received during the process, not least from those who opposed me. Any further advice/guidance will be gratefully accepted. I hope I will live up to your trust! Guinnog 14:04, 30 August 2006 (UTC)}[reply]

Your move to Prime minister (sic) is wrong under WP rules. WP does not allow pages to be moved to grammatically incorrect locations. The office is spelt two ways: either with both words uppercased or both lowercased. As technical reasons prevent the page being located with both names lowercased it was decided long ago, on this and similar cases, that there was no option but to use the title in uppercase. That policy trumps any vote. Indeed if the RM proposal had been spotted in time, admins would have aborted it as the vote is invalid under WP rules.

The reason for this policy is simple. Having an article on something called a Prime minister would have Wikipedia an international laughing stock. It is about as loopy and ignorant as writing United states or George bush.

Please be more careful and avoid making WP a laughing stock. If the media ever saw your move they would have a field-day. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 01:24, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't seen any discussion regarding this on Talk:Prime Minister, so I commented on this at the administrator's noticeboard. I don't think United States and George Bush are analogous here since those two subjects never have the second word in lowercase. It seems like, if necessary, the {{lowercase}} template can be added to the top of the Prime minister article. Regardless, I await confirmation at the admin noticeboard that the precedent you speak of does indeed exist. -- tariqabjotu 01:51, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. It is a while since this issue last came up. I'm trying to remember where the discussion occurred then. (I remember it spread over a number of places because it involved a number of articles.) Because periodically attempts are made to move the page to Prime minister (much to fury or hilarity from British users and political scientists on WP because a mixed title is such a fundamental faux pas) the importance of unison capitalisation of the office was spelt out explicitly in a number of the Naming Conventions pages. If you look to the NC page on capitalisation you will see that the office is explicitly mentioned as an example, precisely because this issue comes up. The template about first letter lowercasing only applies where the first letter has to be lowercased but the other words (if there are any) are uppercased (eg, iPod, true Catholic Church and where there is no alternative. It is not designed to cover cases where there is the option of full uppercasing. Where there are two options, and one is technically possible, it is always used.
In the past where RMs have resulted in results that clashed with the MoS and NC, admins overrule the RM using the IAR (Ignore All Rules) rule which is there in effect to override a decision taken under a rule which if implemented would damage WP. Writing Prime minister, as I have said, would make us a laughing stock among among interested in current affairs, politics, political science, history, or anything similar. It is a really really embarrassing mistake. Just how embarrasing however may not be appreciated by people outside the area of political science. It is like having an article on France and naming its capital as Berlin, or an article on George Bush and saying that he is a Democrat (or that he is the wife of Bill Clinton!) It is of that scale of, if you'll pardon the word, "wrongness". FearÉIREANN\(caint) 02:18, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have no interest in defending Prime minister over Prime Minister; my goal is to determine which is more appropriate (given naming conventions) for the article title. As for "It is like having an article on France and naming its capital as Berlin, or an article on George Bush and saying that he is a Democrat (or that he is the wife of Bill Clinton!)"... no, it's not even close. -- tariqabjotu 02:32, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
