Scott Adam Jacoby (born October 31, 1971) is an American record producer, songwriter, composer, mixer, engineer, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist.[1][2][3] A Grammy award winner, he has worked with numerous artists in various genres throughout his career, including Coldplay, Cory Henry, Fabolous, Jackie Evancho, John Legend, José James, Kane, Laura Izibor, Maiysha, Naturally 7, Ronnie Spector, Sia, Stormzy, Vampire Weekend and Vanessa Hudgens.[4][5][6]

In 2007, he founded his own record label Eusonia Records, and is also the owner of Eusonia Studios.[1][7]

Early life and education

A musician and songwriter since the age of 10, Jacoby grew up in Rye, New York and graduated from Rye High School in 1989.[8] He attended Skidmore College and graduated with honors in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.[9]

Jacoby traveled extensively in Central America and Africa volunteering for several non-profit organizations including AJWS.[8] In 1996, Jacoby attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City to study for a Doctorate of Medicine (MD), before leaving in 1998 to pursue a career in music.[3][7]

Career

Jacoby began recording his own songs in 1993 and released Evolution of Creation under the alias VMS Universe in 1996. In 2003, he signed a record deal with Irma Records who released his debut studio album, Before Now, in 2004.[10] The album was then licensed to Columbia Music Entertainment in Japan and the first single, "I Like You", went to number 1 on the Japanese radio charts.[8] In 2008, Columbia released Jacoby's sophomore studio album, After, which featured guest artists and writers, Maiysha, Andrew Wyatt, Jerome Collins of Straight No Chaser, Kevin Michael, and Shelly Peiken.[11]

Despite success as a recording artist, Jacoby's primary focus has been on writing, production and mixing. In 2002, he established his own music production company, SCOJAC Music Productions, of which he is the current president and CEO.[12][13] Described as an "anti-specialist", he has worked most notably as a writer, producer, engineer, mixer and musician with numerous artists across a wide range of genres.[1][2][3][5][7][14]

Eusonia Records

In 2007, Jacoby founded Eusonia Records, an independent record label, originally distributed by Ryko[3] and now by RED.[7] The label currently has four artists on its roster: Jacoby, Maiysha, SiLyA and Zach Deputy,[15][16][17] as well as the soundtrack for the 2013 film My Last Day Without You.[18] In 2010, Jacoby teamed up with his partner James McKinney to run the label.[19]

In 2016, Eusonia partnered with the Anguilla Music Academy and The Grammy Museum to create the Music Revolution Project in Anguilla.[20][21]

Eusonia Studios

Originally opened as Maze Studios in 2000 with Allen Towbin,[8] Eusonia Studios was established in 2010 as the recording studio for Jacoby's production, mixing, and writing work.[22] It is located in a historic factory building in the Flatiron District of Manhattan and is a two-room facility which features an extensive collection of vintage equipment including keyboards, outboard gear and microphones, as well as a Pro Tools HDX system.[1][23]

Other endeavors

Jacoby speaks frequently at music industry events and universities. He has been a guest lecturer at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, New York University's Steinhardt Program, Yale University,[24] Skidmore College and the City College of New York.[25] He has also been a featured speaker at ASCAP,[26] the AES Platinum Producers panel,[27] the 2016 IMSTA-Festa,[28][29] and Brooklyn Mixcon 2016, as well as the presenter for the 2016 Technical Grammy Award.[30]

Since 2009, Jacoby has held various elected and appointed positions at the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, including the National Board of Trustees (2011–2015), New York Chapter Board Governor, national co-chair of the Producer and Engineer's (P&E) Wing, National Steering Committee of the P&E Wing and co-chair of P&E Wing's New York Chapter.[31][32]
