The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the illustration workshop. Anyone can make a request for an illustration to be improved or created for a Wikipedia article. Clicking the "New Request" button will bring you to a standard template for submitting requests, as well as general advice that should be followed.

Advice to requesters

All requests:

• Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
• If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
• Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
• If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

SVG requests:

• Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
• Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

Notes: For whoever takes these:

§hepTalk 19:28, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that work, §hep, it will, indeed, be very helpful to whoever does take these on. I'm afraid I won't personally be doing that until the requester has time to respond to your earlier request for help, and kind offer to assist. Sorry if that seems harsh, but I do feel you at least deserved a response, bearing in mind the effort you have put in. Begoon•talk 20:06, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How long shall it take to convert 4 logos into SVG ?--Kkm010 | Talk with me 12:47, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
6 months. ShepTalk 21:58, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's just approximate, though. Could be shorter or longer, of course, depending on complexity, and reluctance to help - but that's just my opinion. Begoon•talk 22:10, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What! it would take 6 months to do these 4 logos are u guys kidding or what. Come on please guys try to make it little faster. Look guys if i would have known how to do this stuff i would do it myself, since i have no idea and its bit strenuous therefore I'm reluctant to provide any help. But please make it little faster i have posted it long ago.--Kkm010 | Talk with me 04:17, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking for myself, no, I wasn't kidding - but I'm just one of many here. Personally, I'll put in effort for anyone provided they try to help me to help them to a reasonable level, and there are lots of that type of request that I feel my limited time is better spent on. Someone else may not care about the fact that you are not prepared to do anything to help yourself, despite repeated requests, finding it too "strenuous". I hope so. Begoon•talk 06:50, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't do that four logos are still left out, those are not done yet.--Kkm010 | Talk with me 14:02, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Portal Alaska

Article(s): Portal:Alaska

Request:: Vectorize. Get rid of the really bad GIF manipulation of the picture, especially those icicles :L ResMar 23:14, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notes: The map can be taken from File:Gray alaska.svg, the flag overlay is File:Flag of Alaska.svg, the word Wikipedia is at File:Wikipedia wordmark.svg. You're on your own with the rest. I, personally, don't like the "3D text" look and think 2d text would be more legible. Hope this helps, ShepTalk 23:36, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There's icicles? Connormah (talk) 23:09, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, a two-dimensional vector graphic would be preferred...ResMar 01:07, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): Let's just consider this a mock-up. What would you like changed? I didn't really have a clue of where to take this, so I just popped in some generic text. Sizing, coloring, text, everything is modifiable. Or if someone who watches this page would like to jump in, please do so. ShepTalk 20:02, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Church floor plan for St John the Baptist Church, Inglesham

Article(s): St John the Baptist Church, Inglesham

Request: I'm not sure if this is the right place to request & I don't currently have any images to put above. Yesterday I started this article about this really interesting church. This paper from 1931 includes a plan (page 193) but I'm not sure about the copyright status & it has obviously been scanned/copied etc before being made available on the web. I intend to put the article up for DYK soon, but would hope to take it to GA later and it is at that stage I suspect I will be asked for a floor plan showing the nave, chancel and aisles. Any help appreciated (or tell me a better place to put this request).— Rod talk 10:50, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion: I believe the map would fall under {{PD-UK}}, but not {{PD-US}} so it would be non-free. You'll probably get a more informed answer at WP:MCQ. If it turns out the image is now PD or you can find an older source, someone here can help with extracting the image if you need it. ShepTalk 21:51, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request: Requesting that this image be converted to SVG. When converting, replace "Luna" wording with "Moon", as Luna is not Earth's satellite's official name. SchuminWeb (Talk) 23:16, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): Do you have the numbers that were used to create the graph? If you can get your hands on them, it's as simple as filling out a form here to get a vector. ShepTalk 23:21, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I unfotunately do not have the numbers behind this graph, however, thank you for the link, which I will use in the future. SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:01, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If I remember correctly, I simply used the masses in our articles. The currently listed masses may have been updated slightly (esp. for Saturn's), but I doubt enough to make any significant difference. — kwami (talk) 00:47, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
