Harinder Malhi (born 1980 or 1981) is a politician in Ontario, Canada. Since June 2014, she has been a Member of Provincial Parliament in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario representing the riding of Brampton—Springdale. She was elected to office during the 2014 Ontario general election, the first election in which she contested for a seat in the provincial legislature.[1] She was selected as the Liberal candidate for the riding after incumbent Linda Jeffrey vacated the seat in March 2014 to run for the mayorship of Brampton.[2]

Her family is of South Asian descent, and she speaks Punjabi.[3] Her father is Gurbax Singh Malhi, who was a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons from 1993 to 2011 representing the riding of Bramalea—Gore—Malton for the Liberal Party of Canada,[4] and her mother is Devinder Malhi.[5] Gurbax Singh Malhi campaigned for his daughter during the 2014 Ontario general election.[4]

Malhi studied at Ryerson University, from which she obtained a degree in Public Administration and Governance.[6] She resides in Brampton, where from 1999 she worked as a sales agent at a telecommunications company and then as a real estate agent.[7] On 25 October 2010, she was elected as a school trustee for the Peel District School Board,[8][2] representing Brampton wards 9 and 10,[7] during the 2010 municipal election.[6] She requested a leave of absence from the school board in order to campaign for 2014 Ontario general election; the unpaid leave lasted from 12 May to 13 June, during which she forwent CA$2,224 of her salary.[1]
