Sporkbot

Hi, can you alter the settings for this bot so it is not patrolling users work-in-progress pages please? Skullcinema (talk) 10:25, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I use the bot to orphan templates deleted at TfD, and in this case, Fn was deleted. I don't really understand why you need to use it, when it isn't a valid template. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 13:44, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am using it as an aide-de-memoir so that I don't forget to add in the actual code when I get to that part of writing the article. It's on my personal page and is supposed to be draft only so the only person that it bothers is me. If the bot put a note that it needs to be changed that's fine, but it just deletes it and with it my working marks. Skullcinema (talk) 08:15, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Skullcinema, can you please use a valid template like {{Expand section}} instead? Per WP:REDNOT, nonexistent templates should not be transcluded anywhere. It is not true that the only person bothered by transclusions of deleted templates is you; Wikipedia:Database reports/Transclusions of non-existent templates is patrolled daily by multiple editors looking for errors, and intentional transclusions of nonexistent templates make that work harder. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:55, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Jonesey95, actually WP:REDNOT refers to articles, it is an overextrapolation to claim that it applies everywhere; this is a working draft on a personal page. As for editors looking for something to improve, there is plenty to be done in the main namespace without anyone needing to get involved in editing draft articles, user talk pages, etc. As I have worked through WP's catalogue of malformed {{Cite patent}} transclusions (including using your page [1] - thank you for setting this up) it never occurred to me to go into other user's pages to edit them. Given that, I can't see why you would think that other editors would be unduly concerned. Skullcinema (talk) 15:48, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
From WP:REDNOT: do not add a template to pages unless and until the template has been created. "pages" means all pages, not just articles. Thank you for your gnome edits. – Jonesey95 (talk) 13:21, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
From WP:REDNOT: Articles should not contain red links. "articles" means articles, not all pages. The page in a nutshell section mentions articles four times and pages 0, the policy applies to articles and rightly so. Skullcinema (talk) 09:28, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's in the lead (summary) of WP:RED, not in the detail of WP:REDNOT. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:59, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion request for a module page

I have never had to tag a module page for speedy deletion before, and I don't think it worked when I did it at Module:Adjacent stations/Rapid Metro Gurgaon/testcases. Can you please take a look? The author created it by mistake and requested deletion on my talk page. I am not an admin. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:27, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jonesey95, I deleted it. I have seen Modules tagged before, but I don't recall if they had to use a doc page to do it. In any event, asking an admin to delete it is probably the easiest. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 04:08, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:59, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: All you need to do is to tag the module itself, in the normal way, except that you precede the double opening brace with two hyphen-minus characters, as in
-- {{db-author}}
The space is optional. For some real-world examples, admins may care to examine Special:Undelete/Module:Sandbox/Redrose64/Delete test or Special:Undelete/Module:Sandbox/Redrose64/sometest. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:04, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. I tried the instructions provided on the speedy deletion page, which make no mention of using what appears to me to be a Lua comment. Maybe those instructions should be amended? – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:27, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Washington (state) rail succession templates indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Editing the fields that define the "Personal details" in the infobox officeholder Template

I noticed that many years ago you were able to edit the spouse field to become spouse(s). Please could you explain how this was done. I am trying to translate corresponding fields in a Northern Sotho wikipedia but I am unable to find the definitions of the fields that appear in the Personal details section of the infobox. These would include "Born", "Political Party", "Spouse(s)", "Children", "Parents", "Alma mater" and "Website". Thanking you for your help, Phillip (talk) 15:51, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Phillip, some templates do allow for you to use either |spouse= or |spouses= and the infobox then adjusts the label. For example, see Template:Infobox character. In most templates, like {{Infobox person}} and {{Infobox officeholder}} the label is always Spouse(s). I don't know if this answers your question. You can always look at the code for {{Infobox officeholder}} by opening it up in edit mode. The personal details are near the bottom of the template. Thanks!
