The Sims 2: Seasons is the fifth expansion pack in The Sims 2 series of games. It's expected to be released on 27 February, 2007 in North America, followed by the European release on 2 March, 2007. [1] The announcement for the expansion pack came in the form of a flyer which shipped with The Sims 2: Pets and reads:

Give your Sims a break and get them out of the house! This upcoming expansion pack for the Sims 2 lets you take your Sims outside where they can engage in fun seasonal activities including snowball fights, playing pool games like Marco Polo, and more. They can frolic in Spring showers, fish in their own ponds, and grow seasonal fruits with unexpected consequences. Whether you build them a small Winter chalet or a Summer cabin, your Sims will enjoy every season - but watch out for unpredictable weather! Available Early 2007.

Sims will be able to build snowmen in Winter, rake pesky leaves in Autumn, plant a greater selection of Spring flowers and get sunburnt in Summer.

The Sims 2 Seasons expansion pack will introduce a whole new gameplay concept to The Sims 2 series: seasons. Each season will last for five Sim days There will be weather within these seasons, including light rain, hail, lightning storms and snow. It was originally planned that weather would be in the original Sims 2 base game, however, a 3D rendering error prevented this from being possible: rain would fall into enclosed housing areas, as well as many other graphical rendering problems.

'There are six new careers for sims to choose from: Adventure, Gaming, Law, Music, Journalism, and Education.' Sims can also grow their own vegetables and catch fish to sell and eat. [1]

Players who have their sims overuse pesticides, however, may find them turned into plant people. As a plant person, sims can spawn babies, they gain a prank and can get married and have children. The plant people condition is hereditary. [2]

As with the other The Sims 2 expansion packs, there will be additional items including a pool slide, skating rink, greenhouse, wishing well, and new country themed kitchen sets. Also, a completely new feature is the chance to set clothes for different occasions. So for example, in the Create a Sim, players can choose for their Sim to have a certain hairstyle for work, and another one for gardening etc., without having to buy a mirror to change appearances. Also, sims will have 'outerwear,' to choose in Create a Sim, for each season.

Features from the existing expansion packs such as the influence system (available in University), turn ons/turn offs (available from Nightlife upwards), lifetime wants (available from University upwards), pranks (available in University), fury (available in Nightlife) and talent badges (available from Open For Business) will be available. Although the ones included in Open For Business are not available in the Seasons expansion pack, players can use them if both Open For Business and Seasons are installed.

A new neighborhood, Riverblossom Hills, is expected to have new lots, new sims and a new storyline.
