In the 80s and 90s I recall seeing the BASF name on video cassettes sold in the US. But I didn't se anything about this mentioned in the article, which I find a bit odd as it was the first (and last) time I remember seeing the name. Shouldn't there be something in the business segments section about this? [[Special:Contributions/98.11.100.169|98.11.100.169]] ([[User talk:98.11.100.169|talk]]) 18:48, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

I've also seen audio cassettes, and I'm pretty sure they made computer floppy disks as well.

Auschwitz-3-Monowitz

The BASF created a concentration camp in Auschwitz in Poland. It is called Auschwitz-3-Monowitz. It has a size of 24 Km². It is a slave labour camp. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.51.72.182 (talk) 14:00, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"it was," not "it is." 98.11.100.169 (talk) 18:50, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This was actually the "IG Farben" company, which was formed during the 1920s by conglomeration of all major German chemical companies of that time. After World War II, IG Farben was dissolved and some of its constituent companies were subsequently re-formed (including Bayer, BASF and Hoechst). For further information (also on labour camps and the IG Farben trials related to war crimes), check Wikipedis's article on "IG Farben": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IG_Farben

Acronym?

The article states that the name "BASF" is an acronym, but I believe it to be an abbreviation, as an acronym is generally pronounced as one word. How does one pronounce "BASF", if so? Pookiyama (talk) 19:47, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It actually would be an initialism from the looks of it unless Germans actually do use it as an acronym instead. It's possible, but it doesn't seem likely barring any actual sourcing on the subject. Kingofaces43 (talk) 22:05, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. BASF is the initials of Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik which is included in the "Founded as" section. It is pronounced by spelling out the letters. BASF is sometimes referred to as Badische. Sandcherry (talk) 21:28, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

BASF and Auschwitz

In this wikipedia article is nothing said about the BASF-Factory in Auschwitz (IG Auschwitz) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:FA:5F03:FD00:9133:1DA4:5A75:3006 (talk) 17:25, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

VHS cassette tapes

In the 80s and 90s I recall seeing the BASF name on video cassettes sold in the US. Passive phrasing in History section

The first sentences in several parts of the History section are phrased passively, and so it's completely unclear how what is first written about soda, sulfuric acid, and ammonia relate to BASF.
