This request is incomprehensible and non-English, and I don't think we need to explainin the lead that mainland Malaysia is divided into 11 states and Malaysian Borneo into 2. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 03:28, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Malaysia's administrative divisions are described in this section. Jarble (talk) 16:37, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Malaysia, why just malaysia alone?

i cannot explain this right reality that the official name is just malaysia without addition like kingdom. Just in case for indonesia full name is republic of indonesia. Cmiiw.2404:8000:1027:B639:611B:CA2D:FAE0:9222 (talk) 18:59, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Malaysia consist of 3 countries

please rectify this, Malaysia was formed by 4 countries which was Singapore,(left the federation) Tanah Melayu, Sarawak & North Borneo @ Sabah at present. Its not 13 states & 2 federal teritories. Please make the necessary correction!!! 2001:E68:6129:4F00:DDC3:8B4D:7320:8A5A (talk) 11:04, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong reference for Malaysia means Land of the Malays?

the reference page https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/malaysia/

din't mention that, this statement is wrong.

Malaysia was formed in 1963 with Malaya and another 3 countries (Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak) that Malay are not majority. it is not logical to have country name carry the meaning of Land of Malays. please check. Siakhooi (talk) 07:09, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Malaysia does mean Land of the Malays - but the "Malay" it is referring to, is an old definition of Malay, not the modern 'Malay' that everyone thinks it is, so it's not a great definition of the etymology.
The word "Malaysie" (french) "Malaysia" (anglicised) was created in 1827 and it was meant to encompass the entire Indian archipelago including the Philippines and the Malay peninsula.
So by "Malay" the creator of the word intended it to indicate the what is now known as the people of Western Malayo-Polynesia. (minus Champa and Madagascar - those areas weren't known to be "Malay" in 1827)
This includes MANY more groups than what the modern definition of "Malay" so...
The wording in the article probably needs to change, but it will be a delicate process. MatSallehSesat (talk) 12:57, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
