Le Labo (French: "the lab")[1] is a slow perfumery brand born in Grasse, France, based in New York City and owned by Estée Lauder.[2][3]

History

Le Labo was founded in 2006 in New York City by two friends.[4][5]

Le Labo was purchased by Estée Lauder Companies in 2014.[6][7][8][9] The brand is now overseen by Deborah Royer, who serves as both the Global Brand President and Creative Director.[10] The acquisition has contributed to overall growth in the fragrance category, as Esteé Lauder report increased net sales from Le Labo "reflecting growth from new and certain existing products, as well as targeted expanded consumer reach."[11]

Le Labo became B Corp certified in 2022. [12]

Products

Le Labo fragrances are named after the principal scent note and the total number of ingredients combined to make them.[13]

In 2010, Le Labo was commissioned by Another Magazine [14] to work on an exclusive scent, resulting in ANOTHER 13.[15]

Le Labo City Exclusives Collection pays tribute to cities all around the world. Each fragrance is dedicated to a different city.[16]

Locations

The first boutique[17] opened on 233 Elizabeth Street in New York's Nolita neighborhood.[18] The brand has standalone boutiques and counters in department stores in over 40 markets including the USA, Mexico, UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Hong Kong, Middle East[19], Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, China[20], South Korea,[21] Thailand, and Australia.[22]

In Beyoncé's 2016 visual album Lemonade, the singer was depicted burning two Le Labo Santal 26 candles during the sequence for "Sandcastles".[23]

In the movie Red, White & Royal Blue, the character Alex wears Le Labo Santal 33.[24]
