:Uh-Oh. Well, I may be saying goodbye to wikipedia, sadly, based on what I've learnt today about other good folks, such as [[User:ArmedBlowfish]] who've also been banned. I've wasted a lot of time on this topic today, learning that a whole lot of other people have also wasted a lot of time on it too! In a nutshell, I am now banned, since even after a couple of years of good editing, I have lost my posting rights after having today installed a Tor/Vidalia/Privoxy combination that is apparently untenable even though both TOR and Wikipedia seem to wish there was a better solution. Regrettably, I was not aware of the enormous and octopusine controversy that surrounds anonymity on Wikipedia. Others of like merits have discussed it in depth. There seems as yet to be no solution, and I can't really engage any more time in helping to hash it out; time better spent writing articles or planting trees and food. I suppose I needed to get busy with my real life anyway, so in parting, I'll try to post a few good links here to the crux of the matter, for those who come after.

This: [http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/7/124847/1753 US Court Says Warrantless Web Use Monitoring OK] is why I got TOR today, and I think I'm going to keep it, though my service out here in the desert, completely off the grid, and cellular only, is so painfully slow that I can't share any bandwith at all with the TOR project, so there'll be no node. re: just a howdy

You're welcome! Go ahead and co-opt anything you want from my userpage, I stole borrowed most of it from other users as well. I've never been to Christmas Valley, but I know that's a big change from southern Cali! If you find out anything else interesting, properly sourced and not original research, of course, be sure to add it to the article. And thanks for the compliment--I try! Happy editing! (P.S. Be sure to sign your posts with 4 tildes (~~~~)). Katr67 18:34, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey, I take it back. Co-opt, but for goshsakes change it around a little! I was kind of shocked to see my exact wording and layout on your page. I know I've released all my stuff to the public domain, and that I don't actually own my layout, but maybe you could tweak yours a little to, you know, make it your own. (I mean, do you plan to tag any articles with {{NorthAmNative}}, etc?) Thanks for considering it! Katr67 07:20, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Airport infobox

Well, it wasn't really an invitation, but I put it there... there's one on every US airport now that has an article, as of a few days ago anyway. You've done some pretty good work with it, though typically "in good condition" doesn't go in the infobox. If you feel so inclined, you could always do a facilities sections to put the condition, width, etc of the runways. Great job! thadius856talk 16:55, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Michael Stettler.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Michael Stettler.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. A tag has been placed on Head On Radio Network, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because it is an article about a certain website, blog, forum, or other web content that does not assert the importance or significance of that web location. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles, as well as notability guidelines for websites. Please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources which verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on Talk:Head On Radio Network. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. RJASE1 Talk 05:25, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Bob Kincaid

A tag has been placed on Bob Kincaid, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. RJASE1 Talk 05:26, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Jon Fox, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Welcome back

Hi Duff, welcome back to WP and especially Wikiproject Oregon (and welcome to Oregon, too!) I saw you're part of the Airports group, too, and thought I'd suggest you take a look at Tillamook Air Museum and Evergreen Aviation Museum. They both could probably use some help from someone knowledgeable. (And if you ever get over to this side of the Cascades, they might make interesting destinations…I've only been to Tillamook, but it was a fun visit.) Good luck with your move, and happy editing… -Pete 06:17, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for signing up to help with the Oregon Open Content initiative (or whatever we decide to call it!) Haven't done much recently, but it would be good to keep things rolling.
Also, I notice that a few of your articles (above) were deleted during your absence. That's a bummer, since it looks like you weren't around to make a case for keeping them. In case you weren't aware, such articles are actually kept in the database, and administrators can retrieve them for you; so if you want to get back to work on them and bring them up to "keepable" standard, all is not necessarily lost. -Pete 07:30, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Yes, welcome back. And thanks for changing your userpage. It's hard to explain why, but seeing my exact words on your page kinda creeped me out, which I'm sure wasn't your intention! See you around the wiki! Katr67 13:43, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Duff, to access deleted content, I believe all you have to do is list each article (separately) here, and an administrator will take the appropriate action (temporarily undeleting, or emailing you the content, or something else - not sure exactly how they handle it.) I've never done it before, but it looks fairly straightforward - let me know if you have any trouble. -Pete 18:52, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

state legislators

Hi Duff, I hope you got the above sorted out. I'm curious what you have in mind for state legislators - I posted my question at Wikipedia:WikiProject Oregon/Government so that others can participate. Please take a look, and maybe let us know what direction you see this taking. -Pete 07:15, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Still sorting, as time permits. I posted on the project site in that discussion. Thanks for the poke! Duff 03:08, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Wow- you sure ain't shy about taking on a daunting task! Keep up the good work at Oregon's statewide elections, 2006. I'm impressed! -Pete 05:29, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Post-TOR-installation blockage problems

Block message:

TOR exit node -

The IP address that you are currently using has been blocked because it is believed to be an open or anonymizing proxy, such as a VPN service. To prevent abuse, these proxies may be blocked from editing Wikipedia.

If you are using an open proxy or VPN service, you will need to disable it or turn it off in order to edit Wikipedia.

If you believe you are not using an anonymizing proxy, the most likely cause is that another customer using your IP address who was previously assigned this IP address was running an open proxy. You may appeal this block by adding the following text on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. My IP address is _______. Place any further information here. ~~~~}}. You must fill in the blank with your IP address for this block to be investigated. Your IP address can be determined here. Alternatively, if you wish to keep your IP address private you can use the Unblock Ticket Request System.

More rarely, your network equipment or that of your service provider may be misconfigured or compromised by malicious software (such as a virus). For more information, see the WikiProject on Open Proxies.

Administrators: The IP block exemption user right should only be applied to allow users to edit using an open or anonymizing proxies in exceptional circumstances, and they should usually be directed to the functionaries team via email. If you intend to give the IPBE user right, a CheckUser needs to take a look at the account. This can be requested most easily at SPI Quick Checkuser Requests. Unblocking an IP or IP range with this template is highly discouraged without at least contacting the blocking administrator.

Decline reason: Both of these (TOR and proxies) are serious issues and it appears that I shouldn't lift the IP blocks. Instead, I suggest that you try getting a different IP through your ISP. You might have to restart your computer and your modem. If that doesn't work, we can go from there to try to find a different solution. I'm sincerely sorry about this. I know it is a real hassle.— Chaser - T 01:06, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
