This is a list of characters from the King of Fighters: Maximum Impact series that play their own roles in the overall King of Fighters story a series different from its 2D Mother story, and because of such the characters involved in this series are listed here.

Alba Meira

Chae Lim

Chae Lim
First gameKOF Maximum Impact

Chae began learning Tae Kwon Do from the age of four. She is said to be one of Kim Kaphwan's favored disciples, and the first KOF: Maximum Impact was the first time she had ever entered an official tournament. Kim gave her the privilege of taking his place. When she removes her fighting singlet, she's just a normal girl. Her current hobby is sampling the fares of various eateries.

Miscellanea

  • In KOF: Maximum Impact, Chae Lim plays somewhat similar to Kim's KOF 2001/2002 version.
  • In KOF: Maximum Impact 2, her unlockable costumes looks like May Lee and Gai Tendo's costumes.
  • Chae was not very well received in her debut, as her design was new, but she played like Kim Kaphwan. However, in KOF: Maximum Impact 2, she was given many original moves since Kim was also a playable character.
  • She is the second female Tae Kwon Do fighter after May Lee, but the first SNK character to perform in that art.
  • Her name can translate to Chae Rim (채림) and Cai Lin (蔡琳).

Duke

Duke

Birthplace: Unknown
Birthdate: Unknown
Height: 192 cm
Weight: 251 lbs.
Blood type: A
Hobbies: Listening to opera
Favorite Food: Russian-style beef cutlets
Most valuable: His Pet Dogs (5 St. Bernards)
Hates the most: The scar on his neck
Fighting Style: Personal Method of Fighting Arts
Special Skills: Breaking codes
First Appearance: KOF Maximum Impact
Appears in KOF: KOF Maximum Impact, KOF Maximum Impact 2 (King of Fighters 2006 in US and Europe)

Duke was the King of Southtown and the leader of the Mephistopheles gang, a sub-syndicate of the underworld organization Addes. He answers to Jivatma, who he used to work for before he became Mephistopheles' leader. Jivatma refers to him as Type "D" (although he hates this name) and his underling, Nagase, as Type "N." Currently, Duke is seen as a traitor to Addes, although he is a member of The Children of Kovakiel (a group of Addes' top authorities). He is connected to Lien Neville in that he is responsible for her parents' death but spared her life. Duke is also responsible for the death of Fate, Alba and Soiree's mentor, but not directly by his own hand.

Duke enters the next tournament to "redeem" himself after being defeated by Alba, and therefore, losing his position as the King of Southtown. He apparently underwent a surgical modification early on after his parents vanished. He underwent the surgery so that Addes would cure his sister, who died for an unknown reason. The fact that she died greatly bothers Duke and he often starts the statement "It is an old story...20 years ago."

Miscellanea

  • CPU-controlled Duke quickly gained a reputation of displaying SNK Boss Syndrome. Not only does Duke deal massive damage, but his super meter never depletes. This advantage allows him to use multiple supermoves in a row, sometimes even in a combo, making him much deadlier than a player-controlled Duke.
  • Duke is rumored to be an immortal based on the scar across his neck.
  • Duke during the first KOF Maximum Impact had a "D" on the back of his shirt this was changed to a more tribal design in the second title.
  • Duke was last seen placing flowers over the grave of "Marian Burkoff", his sister in the credits to MI2.
  • One of his alternate costumes makes Duke look similar to Rugal Bernstein, with eye-scar included. Another resembled Kazuya Mishima's "Devil form" from Namco's Tekken series.
  • In Maximum Impact 2, Duke gained a new supermove Gravitational Pull that reverses the opponents controls if it connects (similar to a move used by Seth). Like other moves bearing this attribute, it is largely useless against CPU-controlled opponents.
  • In Lien's MI2 story mode it is stated that Duke spared Lien and raised her to make up for losing his sister.

Hyena

Hyena

Birthplace: France France
Birthdate: August 17
Height: 180 cm
Weight: 172 lbs
Blood type: O
Hobbies: Intelligence gathering (gossip)
Favorite Food: Soft-boiled eggs
Most valuable: His Stylish hair
Hates the most: People who he can't use
Fighting Style: Chicken-Style Combat
Special Skills: Being a suck-up, scheming, wheedling, feigning death
First Appearance: KOF Maximum Impact
Appears in KOF: KOF Maximum Impact, KOF Maximum Impact 2 (King of Fighters 2006 in US and Europe)

Hyena is Duke's henchman. His eloquence has helped him survive in the underworld. Once Duke's lackey, Hyena went into hiding when Mephistopheles collapsed and Duke vanished. After Duke's defeat, he has since spun his abilities to the underworld media, which resulted in an invite to KOF. Now, with a new curl in his bangs, he heads for the event. Just where will his "abilities" take him in the end?

Miscellanea

  • Hyena is the announcer for the first KOF: Maximum Impact game, but he is now a fighter in the second.
  • Hyena is afraid of Duke, but he mocks him after his defeat in a special intro in MI2.
  • As Hyena's fighting technique's are very clumsy and unfocused, he is most likely more of a joke character.
  • One of Hyena's supermoves shows him dying instantly from getting hit by an opponent, and then springing back to life with a crazy-looking kick move... the name of this attack is This Century's Most Fearsome Acting. this technique has caused many a thrown controller in competitive play, as many save it so the fake KO would look realistic.
  • Using This Century's Most Fearsome Acting came with a price, however. If Hyena was subjected to a throw by the opposing character, he was knocked out instantly. This makes this super move more subjective to timing, which isn't all that great to begin with Hyena.

Jivatma

Jivatma

Birthplace: Indonesia Indonesia
Birthdate: December 31
Height: 210 cm
Weight: 214 lbs
Blood type: B
Hobbies: Observing Humanity
Favorite Things: His own body
Most valuable: A body approaching physical perfection
Hates the most: Weak Bodies
Fighting Style: Ways of Punishment
Special Skills: Astrology
First Appearance: KOF Maximum Impact 2 (King of Fighters 2006 in US and Europe)
Appears in KOF: KOF Maximum Impact 2 (King of Fighters 2006 in US and Europe)

Jivatma is the leader of Kusiel/Kushieru, a sub-syndicate of the secret syndicate Addis that trains assassins, and a member of Addis's top leaders, The Children of Kokaviel, but his origins and history are veiled in mystery. He was Duke's boss until Duke became leader of his own gang, Mephistopheles. His sweetly polite voice belies the phony courtesy of the conceited man nicknamed The Dark Talon/The Claw Of Darkness. He has frightening abilities, using a fighting style he boasts is punishment to the weak. He faces fighters who make it to the finals.

Jivatma is also connected to Alba, Soiree, Duke, Nagase, Lien, and Luise. He can activate "Yuudaimu's/Judeim's" presence in the two Meira brothers, and he shows no respect towards Fate, which angers Alba. He is responsible for Soiree's disappearance, although it is believed that Soiree may return in the third game, possibly as a villain. He refers to Duke and Nagase as Type "D" and Type "N" respectively, recognizing them as humans who have been modified by Jalange, Addes' surgeon. Jivatma ordered the death of Lien's parents and family because her father would not join Addes. He is strongly connected to Luise in that she is a Zoan, and his goal is to collect strong host bodies so that Zoans like her can return home. Luise demands to know the whereabouts of other beings like Jivatma, although his loyalty to Addes keeps him from selling out his comrades.

Miscellanea

  • He is referred to as "The Talon of Darkness."
  • Jivatma calls Alba and Soiree Meira, "Yuudaimu/Judeim", a being who is currently unknown and shrouded in mystery. Presumably, "Yuudaimu/Judeim" will be revealed in the third game.
  • Jivatma calls Luise Meyrink by the name, "Lakia".
  • Jivatma's attacks mostly involve stretching his limbs, in a fashion similar to Dhalsim and Necro of the Street Fighter franchise.
  • Jivatma's Another type is a female body. This, and several pieces of information from his profile, suggest he is a parasitic or symbiotic alien who lives in other's bodies. (This is supported by the fact Jivatma mentions in most characters stories that he needs 'strong bodies.")
  • Jivatma has an alternate combat-mode stance, although a CPU-controlled Jivatma will never, ever enter it.

Lien Neville

Luise Meyrink

Luise Meyrink

Birthplace: Germany Germany
Birthdate: June 6th
Height: 175 cm
Weight: 58 kg (128 lb)
Blood type: O
Hobbies: Making astronomical observations, concert-going
Favorite things: An antique music box

Dislikes: Cell phones, spiders
Fighting Style: Schmetterling Fighting Performance Arts
Special Skills: Linguistics (Fluent in over 10 languages)
First Appearance: KOF Maximum Impact 2
Appears in KOF: KOF Maximum Impact 2

A mysterious woman with a strange and somewhat regal appearance. Luise is talented in academics, especially the arts. She had a brief appearance in the OVA "Another Day" at the end of the final episode.

Luise is the daughter of Professor Detlev Meyrink, a well-known and respected authority on rocket science. She enters KOF in search of him when he was kidnapped by the syndicate Addes. She is also an important source of information about Alba's and Soiree's past, although she chooses not to divulge this information to them. She thinks Soiree is funny and interesting, but she is always serious when speaking with Alba.

Throughout the game, Luise shows that she is obviously not human in her ability to do anything; she can teleport herself and others (like she did with Alba after he defeated Jivatma, saving him), float, project bursts of energy, and dash in different directions several times in the air. In truth, she is one of the last members of the ageless Zoan race. Jivatma refers to her various times in the game as Lakia, most likely her original name. She and Jivatma discuss her existence on Earth and her duty to exterminate beings like Jivatma in her storyline. While he wonders why Luise remains on Earth when they could easily aid humanity in upgrading its technology, she mentions that she would rather not. Instead, she would wait as long as needed until humans become capable of simple space travel.

In the end, Luise and Alba end up together, although nothing is shown past that.

Miscellanea

  • Her official nickname is "The Dancing Butterfly in a Starry Sky."
  • 'Schmetterling', which is Luise's fighting style, is German for 'butterfly'.
  • Luise's birthdate happens to be on the same day as Alba and Soiree.
  • Luise said only one word in the OVA "Another Day," which was "Yuudaimu/Judeim." This has significance in the story as it is connected to Alba and Soiree.
  • Luise is considered difficult to use, but can still be an effective character.

Mignon Beart

Mignon Beart
First gameKOF Maximum Impact

Mignon is a somewhat childish young woman whose grand goal is to bring peace to the world through magic. Her childish personality is shown in her overall outlook on life, her third-person speech, and her attitude towards characters like Athena, who she sees as a rival.

Whether a fault of her fine breeding or not, Mignon knows little of determining the tenor of circumstances around her. Once she has decided on something, she has the strength of will to fulfill her goal. She believes that her grandmother was a genuine witch. Mignon also believes that one day she will be able to open the jewel box that she received from her grandmother and at that time she will become a real witch. At the age of six, she got left downtown, ever remembering the terror of that experience.

Miscellanea

  • Mignon has a younger sister named Ninon Beart, who is also a playable character.
  • Her attacks use various elements, such as wind, water, fire, and lightning.
  • In Athena's KOFMI2 ending Mignon appears demanding a fight to determine what is stronger, magic or psychic powers.
  • She use comet as her super move and a bomb which portray a light pushing the player

Birthplace: United States USA
Birthdate: November 14
Height: 157 cm
Weight: 45 kg
Blood type: AB
Hobbies: Demon Magic
Measurements: N/A
Most valuable: Doll she received from her grandmother
Likes the most: When Mignon makes mistakes
Hates the most: Being shouted at by Mignon
Fighting Style: Black Magic + Chinese Fighting Style
First Appearance: KOF Maximum Impact regulation A(KOF 2005)
Appears in KOF: KOF Maximum Impact regulation A and Maximum Impact 2 (KOF 2006)

Ninon is the younger sister of Mignon Beart, and is very different from her older sister. Instead, Ninon is the cool and mature nihilist. It would seem that she is the exact opposite of her sister; her dress style is Gothic Lolita, greatly contradicting the cheerful idol-style clothing her sister wears.

She also seems to be some kind of puppeteer. In Mignon's story, Ninon can control a doll and uses it to taunt Mignon, showing her magical knowledge is stupid. To Ninon's chagrin, it is Mignon who once again receives an invitation to the KOF tournament. Ninon wants to prove to Mignon that she is not only the superior witch, but the superior fighter, too.

In gameplay, she plays mostly like Mignon with a few exceptions, like a teleport and full-screen meteor attack. Also, many of her attacks have incantations that involve the Angels, like Michael ("Michael on my right/Wada migete ni Mikaeru"), Uriel ("Uriel on my left/Wada hidarite ni Urieru"), and Rafael ("Rafael before me/Wada mae ni Rafaeru").

Miscellanea

  • Ninon appears to have a crush on Rock Howard. In their special intro she says "Just my type too."
  • Ninon appears in the latest Days of Memories game, Pure White Angels.

Soiree Meira

Soiree Meira
Birthplace: Germany Germany
Birthdate: June 6
Height: 183 cm
Weight: 154 lb
Blood type: A
Hobbies: Making silver accesories
Favorite things: His older brother, Alba
Dislikes: Rats
Fighting Style: Shooting Capoeira (advised on his own)
Special Skills: Dancing and darts
First Appearance: KOF Maximum Impact
Appears in KOF: KOF Maximum Impact, KOF Maximum Impact 2

One of the main characters of KOF: Maximum Impact. Soiree is cheerful, magnanimous, and passionate, but he is also quick-tempered. He has always idolized his twin brother, Alba.

At the age of three, Soiree lost his parents to an accident and was raised in an orphanage along with his "older" twin brother, Alba. The day he turned 14, he escaped the orphanage together with his brother and settled in Southtown. Fate, the city's boss at that time, took them under his wing, altering the wariness of the two brothers toward adults. Soiree believes that the only power is Alba's power.

After Duke's defeat at Alba's hands, Soiree's dream for his brother to come to power is fulfilled, but he wonders what else there is for him to do. He still helps to protect Southtown and keep order by working with Alba and his men.

In the OVA "Another Day," Southtown is consumed in flames and Soiree works with his friends to evacuate civilians. It is then he runs into Mai and Athena, and then Iori, who he fights because Iori shoved a young girl out of his way while he was searching for Ash. After the fire is burned out, an unconscious Soiree wakes up and loses sight of Iori, only to find Alba who has also been evacuating civilians.

In KOF: Maximum Impact 2, Soiree's story has him encounter Luise and Jivatma and this in turn cause him to become aware of the being called Yuudaimu/Judeim. He vanishes without a trace after Jivatma's defeat. Even though he wasn't at the finals, according to the official story, Alba was. However, the result of Soiree Meira's disappearance is still the same.

Miscellanea

  • His official nickname is "The Angel of Evening" or "The Twilight Angel."
  • Soiree has an Angel Tattoo on his back which lines up with Alba's tattoo.
  • The names of Soiree's moves are written in German.
  • One of Soiree's extra outfits in KOF: Maximum Impact 2 resembles that of fellow KOF fighter Ramon, even with his hair dyed blonde (only without the eyepatch).
  • One of Soiree's ANOTHER outfits resemble Street Fighter's Dee Jay. However, while Dee Jay's pants does say "Maximum" on the side, Soiree's pants says "Maximum Impact" instead (probably to take a jab to the resemblance).
  • One of Soiree's ANOTHER outfits resembles that of Freeman from Garou series, even with his hair died red.
