Yes, they claimed they doubles PS3 sales, when actually they trippled PS3 sales. This should be added, also about how Sony said MS sold less than twice as many consoles, when actually it was more than twice as many.

IPTV

there's nothing about the Korean MegaTV IPTV service which was launched on November 20, 2007 in South Korea (official website). Cliché Online (talk) 19:01, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there is. Dancter 20:07, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
got it. by the way i wasn't able to get it on my jap PS3. i'm not sure if it is a downloadable software like the Folding@Home or a korea special XMB 2.01 built-in. i think it's the first one, requesting several verifications which are not limited to Resident registration number (South Korea), these guys in korea are serious. the PS3 firmware seem to be universal though. MegaTV must be a downloadable software. Cliché Online 21:48, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

40 GB Chrome

The 40 GB is lacking a chrome strip that runs across the bottom of the PS3, should this be mentioned? Df747jet (talk) 08:05, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yep, it belongs to the specific specs chart. Cliché Online 21:51, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
update, chrome trim is actually included in the jap 40GB model as shown here. Cliché Online 17:28, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No dude, you don't get it, look at the 40 GB model shown here and look at the 60 GB shown here. Df747jet (talk) 21:01, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are there any numbers for black friday? Sony beat MS and Nintendo last month in Japan, and MS lied about how much they beat the PS3.--Playstationdude 20:49, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

60GB discontinued in Europe

There's no mention in the article that the 60GB model has been totally discontinued in Europe. THe only one officially on sale is the 40GB, meaning you can't buy a PS3 here with backwards compatability. And yet it STILL COSTS MORE THAN ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD!!! AAAAARGH ~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chicknstu (talkcontribs) 17:16, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"And yet it STILL COSTS MORE THAN ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD!!! AAAAARGH"
Please go back to school, take some lessons in economics, understand that US it plus tax (~4%), and the UK price includes tax (17.5%), and understand EU import levvies for good manufacturered outside the EU. Once you have looked at all these, you will understand it's NOT Sony that is screwing you, it's your goverment creaming off the money.--81.174.171.21 (talk) 08:27, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HDCP

All this content and not a single mention of HDCP? The Playstation 3 requires a HDCP compliant TV or monitor to display HD resolutions. Otherwise it will default to 480i. Seems like pertinent information to me. 64.106.28.4 (talk) 18:59, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please re-read the article and tell me where it says the howto on hooking up the PS3 to a TV via HDMI. Back? Now please consider this: the article states numerous times that the PS3 has HDMI specification 1.3a. In the wikipedia HDMI article, I quote: "Beginning with HDMI CTS 1.3a, any system which implements HDCP must do so in a fully-compliant manner. HDCP compliance is itself part of the requirements for HDMI compliance." with the sources in respected article. Any more questions?--WhereAmI (talk) 01:12, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

weasel words solution

The sentence "Many suggest[weasel words] that the removal of the 20 GB model in North America was probably made to save with manufacturing costs, as there is a difference in cost between the two models of around $30." Can be easily reworded to do away with the weasel words and other grammatical incoherencies. My suggestion is "It is widely speculated that the removal of the 20 GB model from the North American Market was probably done in order to save manufacturing costs, as there is a difference in cost between the two aforementioned models of around $30." This is my best suggestion based on my advanced writing skills and analysis. Use it or a similar composition if you so desire but I'm not forcing the designated author to use it whatsoever. Just a helpful suggestion, that's all.

There is no designated author to this page. The reason you think you may not be able to change anything is because of your IP address instead of making a wikipedia account. We have to take the measure of stopping IP addresses from changing things because of constant, and do I mean CONSTANT, vandalism. Please make a Wikipedia account - it's easy, up in the right hand corner it says "sign up" and just follow the step by step instructions.--WhereAmI (talk) 19:11, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reception Section

I'm not trying to start a huge battle here, but I feel that the "Reception" section is getting out of hand. I mean, it's been more than a year since the PS3 launched, so who wants to read a detailed decription of what was said/thought a year ago? I think the section needs to be greatly reduced and placed in a historical context (ie. equal representation for both sets of opinions and only the best/most eloquent examples of reactions should be retained. see the Wii's section on this for what I mean). I eagerly await your thoughts on my proposal. Thingg (talk) 00:39, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Archive for this page

Would someone who completely understands how to do so please achive this page? I looked at the help articles on how to move a page, but I don't completely understand it. Thanks Thingg (talk) 00:48, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will archive as of November and leave some recent topics then. If there is any concerns, just go back to the archive and bring them back out. While doing this I noticed things are missing - July-much of August...--WhereAmI (talk) 01:19, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done, and I found what was missing, the old archive was just never closed, I do not know if thats standard Wikipeida policy or what.--WhereAmI (talk) 01:23, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SACD

Someone needs to add something about firmware 2.00 being able to output SACD as 5.1 DTS over the optical cable. And then say that firmware 2.01 actually removed this function, without Sony providing a reason for the change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.203.71.130 (talk) 10:52, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: Ignore me, just realised it's in the main System Software article. Sorry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.203.71.130 (talk) 10:57, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Correct. There was a statement in the original article about the DSD-to-DTS conversion feature in 2.00 but I notice it's gone now (probably removed after 2.01 was issued).
Note that Sony never documented the feature in the first place so they needn't account for removing it again. The Seventh Taylor (talk) 20:50, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removed second "Selected Home Video Game Consoles" template

I don't think it is necessary to include the "Selected Video Game Consoles" twice in this article. I understand why it was probably included the second time, but I feel it is unnecessary. If you disagree, please feel free to put it back. Thingg (talk) 22:35, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PlayStation Network?

It should be PLAYSTATION Network...? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vincent Pun (talkcontribs) 10:41, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, Wikipedia uses standard English capitalization. See MoS:TM. --McGeddon (talk) 11:01, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for making this article shorter

I did not put that tag on this page, but I definately agree with it. I looked at the page, and I noticed that a good portion of the present article is made up of a section on the PS3's system software. Does anyone object to me moving most of that information to the PlayStation 3 System Software article? At the present, all that page has is basically a list of the updates to the system software and what they added. I feel that the information on the PS3's software capabilities will fit in very appropriately with the information that is already there. If no one has any objections, I will move the information within 36 hours. Thingg (talk) 02:08, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. The system software section on this article should be moved to PlayStation 3 System Software, and it should be compressed and made concise on this article. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 08:10, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Prose Timeline conflict is pointless.

Wikipedia is nearing a strange kind of conflict here. If wikipedia is trying to be a professional encyclopedia, why on earth would they allow everyone everywhere to edit it? They obviously aren't professionals and cannot be expected to produce professional quality work. On the other hand, to complain about an inappropriate mixture of prose and timeline format is ignorant. A list is an appropriate addition to a prose piece, and a timeline must include prose explanations of each entry. And the claim of its inappropriate nature isnt supported with any details. I've studied writing for years, journalism is my college major, and I can assure you that it is not an inappropriate mixture of prose and a timeline. If copyediting is the issue, go ahead and claim it needs to be written better. I would support a motion to ask that it be written more clearly, but at this point, I move to take down that really ignorant banner complaining about its inappropriate nature. Info needed

Some information is needed on why the price cut seen in the U.S hasn't been done in Europe and Australia. Also we need information on why the PS3 is so much more expensive in the U.S. For example, the current exchange rate is $1AUD is almost 90 U.S cents, however the console costs around $500USD, but the 60GB version costs around $900AUD in Oz. Is SONY deliberately "price gouging" to make up for lost profits? Frvernchanezzz (talk) 08:15, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notes on my major edit

I had previously suggested that this change be made. I feel the article is now a reasonable length and I will be removing the tag from the page. Also, when updating the section on system software in this article, please only put a summary until the most recent "major" update. (eg. if the next update is v2.02, then add the info for that update and leave the rest, but if it is v2.10, then remove the present inforamtion and replace it with a summary of the new update). The PlayStation 3 System Software article is the place to put a detailed description of the PS3's software updates. Thanks . Thingg (talk) 15:42, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sales

The sales update to this article is way past overdue —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.35.86.204 (talk) 19:59, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
