Simran Bagga[1] (Tamil:சிம்ரன்), née Rishibala Naval, known professionally as Simran, is an Indian actress who has acted in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam films.

Biography

She was born on April 4, 1976 in Bombay, Maharashtra, India. Her father's name is Ashok Naval and her mother's name is Saradha Naval. Simran finished her Bachelor of Commerce degree and made her debut in the Hindi film Tere Mere Sapne. It was Jaya Bachchan (ABCL Corp) who saw her in "Superhit Muqabla" on Doordarshan’s Metro channel and called and offered her a leading role in "Tere Mere Sapne".

She later on moved south by acting in a Malayalam film with Mammootty in the lead role, and then to the Tamil movie industry and Telugu movie industry where she established herself as a bankable actress. Her notable films include Thulladha Manamum Thullum opposite vijay, and Kannathil Muthamittal opposite Madhavan.

She can speak Punjabi, French, Hindi, English,Telugu and Tamil[citation needed]. Simran is a versatile dancer and can perform Bharatanatyam with the same ease as she performs Salsa. Her primary professional rival was her contemporary Jyothika Saravanan. Although she enjoyed stupendous success in the Tamil film industry, the latter part of her career was marred by the suicide of her sister, actress Monal and her alleged affair with choreographer Raju Sundaram.

She joined AIADMK before the 2006 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with husband Deepak and campaigned extensively for Jayalalitha.

Personal life

Her younger sister, Monal tried her hand at acting in the Tamil and Malayalam film industries and acted in a few films with Kunal, Vijay and others. Sadly, her career never took off like Simran's and Monal committed suicide by hanging herself. Immediately after the suicide, Simran called for a press conference and accused fellow actress Mumtaj and others of having instigated the suicide. Nothing came out of the police investigation.

Simran married her longtime friend Deepak Bagga on December 2nd, 2003. She gave birth to a boy named Adheep on June 11, 2005. Simran currently resides in Delhi.

Simran was judging dance show Mannada Mayilada on Kalaignar TV but she was replaced by Namitha for unknown reasons.
