ArmA2 is a military simulation game for the PC and consoles in development by Bohemia Interactive Studio. It is the next game in the Operation Flashpoint-series following the predecessor ArmA: Armed Assault. The game was officially announced on August 22, 2007 at the Games Convention in Leipzig.

Gameplay

ArmA 2 is set in the year 2009, in a fictional post-Soviet country called Chernarus literally "Black Russia", a play on Belarus (Беларусь) which means "White Russia". Bohemia Interactive revealed during E3 that the game will have a "roleplaying feel to it"; with in-game events affecting your character as well as the entire campaign. An example would be terrorizing noncombatants and losing their trust, thus encouraging them to give away valuable information to enemy forces. A map the size of 240 square kilometers has been mentioned in a recent interview with a BI representative.

Features

A lot of new and updated facts and features have been announced for ArmA 2 these include :-

  • The Chernarus landscape is based heavily on the Czech Republic, the home country of developer - Bohemia Interactive Studio
  • There will be a 'micro' AI which will be able to move more precisely through the environment.
  • A New view called High Command will allow the player to command his/her troops in an RTS style.
  • There will be 50 vehicles, but different vehicle types (HMMVW, HMMVW M2, HMMVW TOW, etc). In total there are 120 different types of vehicles.
  • Six different factions.
  • Every building will be destroyable in some way.
  • Civilian units. [1]
  • The ability to interact with civilians and other units around you.
  • Multiple core support.
  • Ability to drag and carry wounded men.
  • Over 50 weapon types.
  • Wasp class amphibious assault ship.

Plot

ArmA 2 will feature a plot which is based around a fictional post-Soviet country called Chernarus (Black Russia). The country is in a state of political unrest, with a western backed Democratic government trying to hold onto power from pro Communist forces, after many months of civil war the Communist forces failed to overthrow the current government and set up the Social Republic of Chernarus. The remaining democratic forces ask the west for help and the United States of America send the United States Marine Corps and a carrier task force to anchor off the Chernerus coast. The game apparently starts when a US Special forces team "Razor" lands in Chernarus to try and quell the civil war.

Technology

ArmA 2 will make use of industry standard technology, and will be powered by a much more powerful game engine, unlike its predecessor ArmA 1, which was built on Operation Flashpoint's game engine.

Some of the new Features in ArmA 2 are as follows:

"ArmA 2 benefits from a game engine that has been in constant development for 10 years and is used as a basis for training simulators used by armies across the globe." - Maruk, BIS CEO
