Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

AndreatSS → Andre Bergeron

Thechode69 → The Gynecologist

Bureaucrat note: I... hrm... I dunno about this one. I don't think it violates any policy per se, but... it doesn't strike me as a good idea. I can see someone getting a bit miffed about it.
Is there another name you'd like? Profession-based names are (in my personal opinion) not the best idea, as it (a) can be used to trace your edits back to you in the real world and (b) can change suddenly, which means you'd probably want a rename again. Mohammad abrar wadud → Mohammad.abrar.wadud

Bureaucrat note: - Wikipedia is unable to have first letters be lowercase. However, to make the first letter appear lowercase add {{lowercase}} to your userpage. Also you may want to customize your signature. Or we could change your username to Mohammad Abrar Wadud. Kingturtle (talk) 03:45, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

National Museum of Australia → Eternity1901

Konabear → Blackburn2000

  • Current name: Konabear (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · target logs · block log · list user · global contribs · central auth · Google) (ping user)
  • Requested name: Blackburn2000 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · target logs · block log · list user · global contribs · central auth · Google)
  • Previous renames: current user, target user, Queue: open req, closed req
  • For global renamer: rename user
  • Reason: Recently my name change from Konabear to Blackburn2000 was approved. My posting were supposed to be reattributed to my new user name for privacy reasons, but only a few were reattributed. I would like to request my original Dec.13 posted to be changed to my new username as well to avoid being contacted regarding this posting in the future. Thank you. Blackburn2000 (talk) 03:08, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • SoxBot has evaluated this request, and a problem(s) was found. Target username exists, and it has edits, deleted edits, and/or log edits. SoxBot (talk) 03:09, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, this username already exists because you recently granted my username change from Konabear to Blackburn2000, But you only reattributed half of my postings on my history page. I would like my original posting from Dec. 16 2006 to be reattributed to my new name, Blackburn2000, if possible. I've had problems with other users identifying me and sending me emails. I tried to contact one of your administrators to do this, but never heard back. I would appreciate the reattribution change of my original Dec.13 posting if you can do it. Thank You. Blackburn2000 (talk)
  •  Bureaucrat note: Full reattribution can take some time. When was the last rename done? We can't merge accounts, so if you're not prepared to wait for the process to finish, or if it's bugged, I can only suggest we rename your old account to another name. What would you like to do? --Dweller (talk) 09:20, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Urbian → Arora

Rezairanikermani → Reza Irani-Kermani

Not done Just create the name you want. If it blocks you from doing so, then readd this request. bibliomaniac15 15:12, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gerty145 → 09081965

Not done We do not give accounts to groups or institutions. Kingturtle (talk) 10:49, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
