Corbin Bleu

Corbin Bleu Reivers (born February 21, 1989),[2] better known as Corbin Bleu, is an American actor, model, dancer, and singer. He is perhaps best known for his roles in the High School Musical film series, the Discovery Kids television series Flight 29 Down, and the Disney Channel Original Movie Jump In!. He also pursued a solo career and released his debut album Another Side on May 1, 2007. The album debuted at number thirty-six on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling 18,000 copies in its first week.[3] Bleu released his second album, Speed of Light, on March 10, 2009 in the U.S.[4]

Early life and background

Bleu was born in Brooklyn, New York City, the son of Martha (née Callari) and David Reivers.[5][6][7] His mother is Italian-American and his father Jamaican-American.[8][9] He has three sisters: Jag, Phoenix, and Hunter Reivers (youngest to oldest). As a child, Bleu studied dance for several years, focusing on ballet and jazz.[10] Bleu graduated from Los Angeles County High School for the Arts.

Bleu trained in dancing,[11][12] eventually becoming one of the first students at the prestigious Debbie Allen Dance Academy. He then attended as a theater major, this time following in the footsteps of his mother, who attended New York City's famed High School of Performing Arts.[13] Like his father, he appeared in television commercials, starting at the age two, for products such as Life cereal, Bounty, Hasbro, and Nabisco.[14][15] It was at that time he also discovered his love for dance when he began taking jazz and ballet classes, usually being the only boy in the class. By the age of four he was a model with the Ford Modeling Agency in New York.[16] He appeared in print ads for stores such as Macy's,[17] Gap (clothing retailer), Target (magazine), and Toys R Us, and fashion spreads in Child, Parent, and American Baby magazines, as well as having his image on toys and game packaging.[18] At age six Corbin appeared in his first professional theater production off Broadway, The Town Hall, Broadway's landmark concert venue. This three-concert series, created, written an hosted by Scott Siegel, took place over one weekend and included A Tribute to David Merrick. Corbin Bleu played an abandoned homeless mute in the play "Tiny Tim is Dead".

Acting career

In 1996, his family relocated to Los Angeles and he soon gained a recurring role on the TV series High Incident and a guest star appearance on ER himself, alongside George Clooney in 1996. Bleu also had roles in 1998's Malcolm & Eddie as Matthew, alongside Malcolm Jamal Warner and Eddie Griffin, and actor in Beach Movie alongside Gabrielle Anwar and Douglas Spain, [19] and Cover Me: Based on the True Life of an FBI Family, as Nick Elderby, as Matthew, alongside Michael Angarano and Cameron Richardson and Melora Hardin in 2000.[20] He also had small roles in films like Soldier with Kurt Russell, and Family Tree with Andrew Lawrence and Tyler Hoechlin, and Mystery Men with Ben Stiller, William H. Macy, and Greg Kinnear, Galaxy Quest with Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, and Alan Rickman, and The Amanda Show with Amanda Bynes and Drake Bell, Corbin also continued dancing, eventually becoming one of the first students at the prestigious Debbie Allen Dance Academy, [21] While in his freshman year Corbin was cast in his first lead role in the feature film 2004 film, Catch That Kid alongside actors Kristen Stewart and Max Thieriot.[22] In his sophomore year he played the lead role of Ren in the musical "Footloose" and the role of Sonny in the musical "Grease". That same year Corbin was honored with the award of Theatre Student of the Year. In the summer of 2004 Corbin became a part of the ensemble cast for the new Discovery Kids television series Flight 29 Down as Nathan McHugh, alongside Allen Alvarado and Hallee Hirsh and Lauren Storm,[23] a drama series about a group of teens stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash filmed on location in Hawaii on the island of Oahu. He also had a small role as Spencer on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, his first appearance being in the episode entitled Guide to: The School Play and Guide to: Revenge & School Records.[24], and Mother Goose Parad as Grand Marshall [25] alongside Devon Werkheiser and Lindsey Shaw in 2006, 2007.

In 2006, 2007 and 2008, Bleu played "Chad Danforth" in High School Musical alongside Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Zac Efron, Lucas Grabeel, Monique Coleman, the immensely popular Emmy award-winning Disney Channel original movie, and the 2008 Haunted High School Musical. In each of those successive installments, Bleu reprised his role as basketball player Chad Danforth, a teammate of lead character Troy Bolton (Zac Efron). Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide, and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as himself in 2007, He also guest starred in the premiere episode of Disney's Hannah Montana as Johnny Collins alongside actresses Miley Cyrus and Emily Osment and Mitchel Musso with Moisés Arias and Ray Romano [26]. Bleu's next film, Jump In! co-starring actress and R&B vocalist Keke Palmer, as well as Bleu's father David Reivers, premiered on January 12, 2007, and has since become one of the highest rated Disney Channel Original Movie,[27] and The Tyra Banks Show in 2008.[28] Bleu also appeared in the 2007 Disney Channel Games as captain of the Blue Team.

In fall 2009, he had a lead role in the film Free Style as Cale Bryant, alongside Sandra Echeverría and Madison Pettis, [29] and appeared in The CW Television Network's new show[30] The Beautiful Life: TBL, alongside actresses Sara Paxton and Mischa Barton. Also in 2009, he is Voice in Beyond All Boundaries [31] , and Live with Regis and Kelly in 2007-2010, and appeared on Entertainment Tonight and The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, and "This Is It" Los Angeles Premiere, Arrivals, Nokia Theatre, in October 27, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. Music

2006-2007: Another Side

18,000 in its first week.[35] Corbin worked with hit-maker Ne-Yo on "I Get Lonely," and other performers such as Matthew Gerrard, Eric Hudson and more. A music video for his first single "Push It to the Limit" premiered on the Disney Channel, and was used to promote Jump In! a Disney Channel Original Movie in which Bleu starred. "Push It to the Limit" reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100,[36] peaking at #15. Bleu toured with fellow HSM cast members from late November 2006 to late January 2007 in High School Musical: The Concert,[37] performing in about 40 different cities.[38][39] To promote his debut album, Bleu performed at the NextFest tour, along with Aly & AJ, Drake Bell, and Bianca Ryan.

On "Another Side", he wrote/co-wrote five of the album's twelve songs.[40] He also wrote two more songs that appear as bonus tracks on the European version. One of those tracks was titled "Shake It Off", an ode to the musician Prince.

2008-2009: Speed of Light

In a recent interview[41] with Billboard, Bleu stated that he has begun working on his follow-up album. Bleu told Billboard, "There will be a lot of differences with the second album. First of all, it's just more personal. I'm involved in every aspect of the writing. As far as the direction of the music, it's very different.[42] I wanted this album to have something that was a little bit of rock, a little bit of R&B and a little bit of pop." Producer Eric Hudson is attached to the majority of the project, along with songwriter/lyricist Claude Kelly. Bleu performed unreleased tracks like "Close", "Whatever It Takes", and "Champion" on a summer concert tour with singer/actor Justin Stein. The tracks are set to be in the album.[1][43] Speed of Light was due out on March 10, 2009 via Hollywood Records. The album failed to debut on[44] Billboard Top 200 album charts. According to sources, the album sold less than 4,000 in its first week, despite promotion from[45] MySpace.com. The album spawned singles "Celebrate You" and "Moments That Matter," which was released with a music video.[46]

Personal life

In the summer of 2003, he performed in a student-written stage play, Baby Blues. Along with this stage performance, The Thrill of Art and Victorian's Closet was performed, written by Jamie Isaac Conde and Lucas Barron.

He appeared in an episode of the Broadway cast of Spring Awakening's YouTube series. The episode was titled "Notesey", and Writer and performer of "Moments That Matter", Free Style 2008 Soundtrack, and Minutemen Soundtrack, Various Artists Song: "Run it back again",[47] and "Word Of Promise: The Next Geneoration" Audio Bible Voice of Peter.

He wears a lot of the clothing by designers Don Ed Hardy and Dolce & Gabbana. He also wears clothes from the label Penguin and loves sneakers by Nike.

He is a frequent volunteer worker, volunteering for charities such as "Starlight Children's Foundation",[51] "The Make-A-Wish foundation" and "St Jude's children's research hospital", and Served Thanksgiving's dinner and Christmas Eve lunch at the Los Angeles homeless shelter in 2008 with Debby Ryan.[52]

He appeared in the music video for the song "Don't Be Shy", the debut single from the band Small Change, Commercial for Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades, Album: Speed Of Light, Hollywood Records. Released March 10th, 2009,[53] and in 2008 Modelled for OP Ocean Pacific clothing line, Was signed as a child Model with The Ford Modeling Agency at the age of four, Is a dedicated fan of the Los Angeles Lakers Basketball team, Corbin had successful LASIK surgery in January 2009.
