Hello Derild4921,
First of all, thank you for the major help you did on [[First Light (novel)]]. I'd say you really made it come together when I was having a few problems (mostly because I'm not that good at allot of the things of Wikipedia.) I was wondering if you could help me with a page I am working on: [[User:Toontown59153/Woods Runner]]. I just want to get it into a real article before I completely give up. Again, thanks and see ya! Hi

I see what you did to the Ruins of Gorlan article. Awesome! I think we can make this an extremely good article if we keep adding info to it. Lets steer this conversation to the discussion page on the Ruins of Gorlan. Cheers! DarkJak495 (talk) 20:54, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2011 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Greece Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Principality of Sealand Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!

A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. For boldly demonstrating to User:DarkJak495 how to improve The Ruins of Gorlan. Good luck pushing towards GA! Sadads (talk) 23:05, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Make sure you are also explaining things in addition to showing things. I would like to see DarkJak become a regular contributer, and that will only happen if we show him how to write articles effectively, Cheers, Sadads (talk) 23:05, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much! :). I plan to back down now and let DarkJak find some sources of his own and guide him along the article, occasionally stepping in. Derild4921 23:31, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE January Backlog elimination drive conclusion

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.

Statistics
  • 54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated.
  • One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%.
  • Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue.
  • Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here.
Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering the barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Thank you for participating in this year's first Backlog elimination drive! We hope to see you in March.

Are you still there?

You're enforced Wikibreak has expired for 4 days. I hope your midterms went well. Anyway, someone thinks that the plot for Into the Wild is a bit short. I agree, but since you're the one who brought it to GA, I was wondering if a short plot summary was what you intended to have. Brambleclawx 23:36, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, the midterms got delayed a lot due to all the snowstorms my town received and just ended recently. As for the plot summary, I'll take a lot at it soon. Thanks! Derild4921 01:43, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You really have no idea how glad I am to see you back. . almost as happy as when I first saw you join WP:Warriors. Anyway, It's nice to see you back. I got some snow too. Brambleclawx 01:45, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the welcome! THankfully most of the snow has melted and I don't think anymore is on the way so I should be on more consistently now! Derild4921 01:49, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Copyedit Request

Just wanted to stop by and let you know that I will be taking on the copyedit request for When You Reach Me. It might take me a bit due to my schedule, but I will try what I can, although at first glance it looks pretty good. Since it is going up for FA eventually, I will try to add some comments after I am done regarding FA criteria... -Pax85 (talk) 21:30, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much! Derild4921 03:02, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
When you have a moment, I also added a couple of comments on the talk page that I would like your input especially on. -Pax85 (talk) 21:01, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for telling me, will take care of it as soon as possible. Derild4921 00:06, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2011 February newsletter

So begins round two of the WikiCup! We now have eight pools, each with eight random contestants. This round will continue until the end of April, when the top two of each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers of those remaining, will make it to round three. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions) (first, with 487 points) and Zanzibar Hurricanehink (submissions) (second, with 459), who stormed the first round. Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished third with 223. Twelve others finished with over 100 points- well done to all of you! The final standings in round one can be seen here. A mere 8 points were required to reach round two; competition will no doubt be much more fierce this round, so be ready for a challenge! A special thanks goes, again, to United Kingdom Jarry1250 (submissions) for dealing with all bot work. This year's bot, as well as running smoothly, is doing some very helpful things that last year's did not. Also, thanks to Bavaria Stone (submissions) for some helpful behind-the-scenes updating and number crunching.

Some news for those who are interested- March will see a GAN backlog elimination drive, which you are still free to join. Organised by WikiProject Good articles, the drive aims to minimise the GAN backlog and offers prizes to those who help out. Of course, you may well be able to claim WikiCup points for the articles you review as part of the drive. Also ongoing is the Great Backlog Drive, looking to work on clearing all of the backlogs on Wikipedia; again, incentives are offered, and the spirit of friendly competition is alive, while helping the encyclopedia is the ultimate aim. Though unrelated to the WikiCup, these may well be of interest to some of you.

Just a reminder of the rules; if you have done significant work on content this year and it is promoted in this round, you may claim for it. Also, anything that was promoted after the end of round one but before the beginning of round two may be claimed for in round two. Details of the rules can be found on this page. For those interested in statistics, a running total of claims can be seen here, and a very interesting table of that information (along with the highest scorers in each category) can be seen here. Good luck! Your GA nomination of First Light (novel)

Hi there! I've just conducted a review of your Good Article nomination of First Light (novel)! The article is in very good shape, and there are very few changes that need to be made (the changes that do need making are basic.) I also provided some suggestions which you may choose to use or not, at your discretion. Alright, thanks so much! I'll put the article on hold for a week from today (Saturday).
