Scott James Remnant is an open source software developer.
Scott is a former employee of Canonical Ltd. where he worked as the "Ubuntu Developer Manager" on the Ubuntu Linux distribution.[1] He continues to be a member of the Ubuntu Technical Board where he approves feature specifications, sets priorities, and directs development of Ubuntu as part of the four-person technical board.[2]
Scott is the author of the Upstart initialization system and the Planet weblog aggregation system. In addition to his work on Ubuntu, Scott served as a long-time Debian developer where he maintained libtool, the dpkg package management system, and several other important packages. Scott resigned from Debian in 2006.
In January 2011, Scott left Canonical Ltd. and relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area to join Google, Inc. where he continues his work on Upstart.[3]
Personal life
Scott is openly gay, and believes it important to be so to encourage others coming to terms with their sexuality to feel comfortable in the open source community.[4]
