Why is there no info on here about his relationship with his adopted daughter? Its been all over the news, and the relationship has been going on for over 10 years, making her underage at the start. They were even engaged, but I don't believe married yet. This is certainly a big part of his personal life to say the least, yet there is no mention here. Is it the policy of WP to leave out personal info that is controversial in nature? What gives? Morgan Freeman wears an ear ring on his right ear...and not his left...

I just noticed this while watching him do a documentary on TV. "Left is right right is wrong", so ummm.....is Morgan gay? At the very least this "ear ring thing" should be mentioned, shouldn't it? I dunno. VERITAS.68.59.4.188 (talk) 16:44, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification

"Although he has said in interviews that he has never been cast opposite a love interest in any of his movies, Freeman has been married twice." <-- this line makes no sense. Although? If his marriages were contradictory to that statement, it would make sense to combine the sentence and add the although. Yet his marriages are NOT contradictory, thus this is a completely illogical sentence. I am changing it promptly, getting rid of the whole first part as it is not really worth anything (especially to open up a biography with). Illuminus

Is this article a stub?

I especially like the way his height gets top billing!

Listerine

Is this really necessary in the article? I mean, it's true, but I'm sure Freeman has said lots of things in interviews that are not significant and maybe don't need to be included. The ad itself was obviously '60s or early '70s vintage, maybe he forgot... It just seems out of place, and a little "who cares"?

Where was he born?

I can find many articles that claim Freeman lives in Clarksdale, MS, but these articles, and all other sources seem to indicate he was born in Memphis. If someone has a link - please link this to something that shows his birthplace is in clarksdale. Snowberg 21:59, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dead?

He was in a car accident and is still alive. However, the date of the accident is incorrect. He was in a crash today, 8/4/08..not yesterday. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.183.11.171 (talk) 02:50, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've heard no confirmation of his death anywhere, only that he's had a bad car accident. Can anyone confirm/deny that he has died at this stage? Perry (talk) 16:38, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The News Reports right now state he is seriously injuried, not dead. Yet anyway, I just checked the news out now, nothing states otherwise. So who ever added that into this doesn't know what they are talking about.

appearance in "Baby Jane"

I recently saw, for the first time, the movie "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" I understand that Morgan Freeman played the young soda-stand clerk at the beach near the end of the movie. Car accident section

I've moved the information about his auto accident into its own section for now, since its an ongoing event (he is hospitalized) Once he is released from hospital it can be merged with "personal life". Michaelh2001 (talk) 17:47, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think someone may have been playing around with this section. Good examples of non-factual (if humorous) content are listed below.

"The vehicle in which he was traveling, a 1939 Sherman Tank, left the highway and flipped over several times. Witnesses compared it to a stunt show." "Freeman could talk after the crash, demanding that the woman (The nurse) 'Make him a sandwich'." "Freeman was discharged from the hospital. [23] 2 days later he collapsed on his cheese and ham sandwich."

Greenwood High School

The article states that Morgan graduated from Greenwood High School in 1955. That's an error. I grew up in Greenwood and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1956. In the '50s Greenwood schools were segregated, so he couldn't have graduated from there. Black and white schools were separate. I don't remember the name of the black high school, but it wasn't Greenwood High.—Preceding unsigned comment added by DonBinMS (talkcontribs) 02:16, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jennifer Nicole Freeman

The section on the actress Jennifer Nicole Freeman being the daughter of Morgan was removed because he is not her father. In this interview with Freeman, he says he has four children, Morgana and Deena (his wife's child whom he adopted), Morgana, his biological child with his wife and Alfonso and Saifoulaye from previous relationships. "I remember something my father would say to me when I was growing up,” says Morgana Freeman, 36, a beauty salon owner in Atlanta and one of the star’s four children."

"He had fathered two sons out of wedlock by different women before he married Jeannette Bradshaw in ’67 and adopted her daughter, Deena; the couple had a second daughter, Morgana, in ’71." http://www.aarpmagazine.org/entertainment/morgan_freeman_home_again.html 66.67.156.138 (talk) 03:49, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

National Enquirer story

A number of media outlets, including the National Enquirer (I know -- hardly the voice of sobriety) have charged that Freeman has been in a sexual relationship with his step-granddaughter, E'Dena Hines (age 27) for at least ten years. ( http://www.nationalenquirer.com/moragn_freeman_decadelong_affair_with_stepgranddaughter_edena_divorce/celebrity/66840 ) Normally, this sort of claim wouldn't carry much water, but it has been repeated by more credible sources, such as The Huffington Post. ( http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/19/the-morgan-freeman-edena-_n_217823.html ) Apparently, it is factual that Hines has often been escorted by Freeman to public events. Freeman's second ex-wife Myrna has repeated the claims of incest, and attributes the break-up of her marriage to the relationship between Freeman and Hines, who grew up in Freeman's home. Any more reliable info out there? Bricology (talk) 17:39, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Everyone is just quoting the Enquirer, who's only source is divorcing Freeman. So no reliable source for any of it. —MJBurrage(TC) 10:55, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I concur, this should be left off the page until a reliable source can be found. --TeaDrinker (talk) 20:56, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's more than that - it's libellous and a complete violation of WP:BLP. Wildhartlivie (talk) 22:49, 10 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No blood relation = not incestuous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.213.120.190 (talk) 06:38, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In the same vein, no reliable sources = no inclusion. The Huffington Post is a step above the Enquirier, but a) it simply reports that the Enquirer made the claim and doesn't of itself verify it, and b) it's largely a gossip column and would struggle to meet the reliable sources requirements. I've also changed the header for this section to something a little blander - hope no one minds.
There seems a fair consensus here not to include the claim unless/until it gets more mainstream coverage, or can be better verified. Is that a reasonable assumption? If so I'd like to mark the thread closed, if not then any other views welcome. Euryalus (talk) 09:15, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. There has now been a denial: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/ENTERTAINMENT-Hollywood-News-Interviews-Freeman-not-to-marry-step-granddaughter/articleshow/4766695.cms Harry the Dog WOOF 17:28, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(outdent) It's not consensus, it is publishing something that might be considered libellous and violates WP:BLP. The only things circulating out there stem from the National Enquirer and that is simply not permitted. Wildhartlivie (talk) 18:16, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone else feel this conversation ought to be removed? Talk pages have to follow BLP just like the mainspace. faithless (speak) 21:21, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, yes I agree completely. It has gone far afield from asking "is this sourcce reliable?" Wildhartlivie (talk) 21:37, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I partly agree, but I was considering this from BLP re talk pages: "New material should generally be discussed in order to arrive at a consensus concerning relevance, availability of sources, and reliability of sources." I don't believe this discussion is libellous of itself as we are not advancing the claim. If we put it in the article without relibale sources, or if we asserted here it was true in the absence of other evidence, then it would be a different story. Also, if this conversation is removed we will likely have it again in a day or two when someone else comes across the same article. Other views welcome of course, just my opinion. Euryalus (talk) 21:39, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's now also been mentioned in Salon (http://www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/feature/2009/07/10/morgan_freeman/index.html). Though this too only links to the Enquirer article, it mentions that the story has been seeping into more mainstream outlets. At this point, doesn't it at least warrant a mention that news outlets have been running this story? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.14.119.60 (talk) 11:11, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, it doesn't. The item on Salon only mentions the Enquirer story to repeat it and then alludes to mainstream coverage without actually showing where there is any. The item is hardly a straight news report, it's a snarky commentary that essentially consists of opinions, insinuations and no facts. It also does not note that Freeman's representative has denied the entire thing and called it garbage. It is not possible to know at this point where this rumor originated, or why, but it is worthwhile to point out that it comes out in the midst of what is increasingly appearing to be an acrimonious divorce. We cannot publish this unless it is reliably reported and confirmed without committing libel, violating WP:BLP and creating undue harm. We aren't the National Enquirer, we don't repeat gossip. Wildhartlivie (talk) 11:34, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Front page of MSN? (http://specials.msn.com/A-List/Morgan-Freeman.aspx?cp-searchtext=Morgan%20Freeman%20to%20marry%20step-granddaughter) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.14.119.60 (talk) 22:28, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Huffington Post is referencing it as well (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/07/10/edena-hines-morgan-freema_n_229070.html) National Enquirer is one thing, but MSN, Salon.com and HuffPo -- these aren't your trad scandal sheets and gossip-mongers, prone to libel. And Wildhartlivie's "It also does not note that Freeman's representative has denied the entire thing and called it garbage" -- is just laughable. Can anyone think of a single celebrity flack who has ever admitted anything unseemly that their employer has ever done?! It's their job to deny such things, whether they're true or not. Bricology (talk) 03:02, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As an wikipedia _user_, I ask that you not remove it (or anything for that matter) from the talk page. I have no problem with maintaining high standards in sources etc on the main page, but in the talk page it is nice to have the logic and discussion behind such maintenance available for viewing... plus if you did track 4 on this album (http://yellowostrich.bandcamp.com/album/the-morgan-freeman-ep) would make no sense at all! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.118.199.8 (talk) 22:52, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(outdent) The funny thing - what is laughable - is that over 3 months have passed and it's dead news - to everyone, apparently, except you. If there was any weight to this, it would still be news. It isn't. It's over and if it wasn't appropriate in July, it is even less so now. Dead issue. Wildhartlivie (talk) 03:11, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Left Hand

I saw Mr. Freeman on TV last night, and his left hand was much darker than his right, noticeable because of a very nice manicure. It was almost as if he were wearing a black glove on his left hand, but again, the manicure negated that idea. Could this be due to his car accident (nerve damage)? Or something else? Just curious. Waytoomuch trouble (talk) 20:24, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is a glove. He appeared on a TV chat show recently, still wearing it to cover the injury he received in his 2008 car accident. Deletion of children's names

A few days ago an edid deleted the names of his chidren from this article based on WP:BLPNAME. I can understand why the editor interpreted the policy that way, but I did some research with Google and those names have been publicised fairly widely. Theres currently a discussion on the BLP talk page about how the policy should be applied to the names of the children of very famous people, if those names have been widely publicised. Depending on the outcome of that debate we might want to consider restoring the names. Rusty Cashman (talk) 04:57, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that deletion and actually didn't feel it should be contested. His children are not notable on their own and that seems to fit the presumption of privacy comment in WP:BLPNAME: "There is a presumption against using the names of such individuals, even if the names have already appeared in the media, where:
  • they are not in themselves sufficiently notable for a Wikipedia article; for instance, because:

o they are only named in third-party published sources because they are related to or associated with notable individuals; o they are only named in a few third-party published sources; o although they are widely named in third-party published sources, such sources only have trivial content on them (e.g., minor accidents, criminal offenses and public outbursts). How was this left out? I thought this was supposed to be factual information and not some fluff PR page. http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/sex/morgan-freeman-to-marry-his-step-granddaughter-486028 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.196.89.81 (talk) 15:39, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Freeman joined President Bill Clinton, USA Bid Committee Chairman Sunil Gulati, and USMNT midfielder Landon Donovan on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in Zurich for the USA bid committee's final presentation to FIFA for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.[39]

Freeman, in an interview to be aired on CNN Friday evening September 23, 2011, said that President Obama has made racism worse in America.[40]

[40]Chatting with Piers Morgan, the Oscar-winning actor also blames the Tea Party saying they're "going to do whatever [they] can to get this black man outta here” (video follows with transcript and commentary):

PIERS MORGAN, HOST: Has Obama helped the process of eradicating racism, or has it in a strange way made it worse.

MORGAN FREEMAN: Made it worse. Made it worse. Look at, look, the Tea Partiers, who are controlling the Republican Party, stated, and what’s this guy’s name, Mitch O’Connell. Is that his, O’Connell?

MORGAN: Yeah, Mitch McConnell, yeah.

FREEMAN: Mitch McConnell. Their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term. What’s, what does that, what underlines that? “Screw the country. We’re going to whatever we do to get this black man, we can, we’re going to do whatever we can to get this black man outta here.”

MORGAN: But is that necessarily a racist thing?

FREEMAN: It is a racist thing.

MORGAN: Is it not Republicans, wouldn’t that say that about any Democrat president?

FREEMAN: No, they would have gotten rid of Bill Clinton if they could have.

MORGAN: They tried.

FREEMAN: They did try, but still. I don’t, they’re not going to get rid of Obama either. I think they’re shooting themselves in the head.

MORGAN: Does it unnerve you that the Tea Party are gaining such traction?

FREEMAN: Yes.

MORGAN: Why?

FREEMAN: Well, it just shows the weak, dark, underside of America. We’re supposed to be better than that. We really are. That’s, that’s why all those people were in tears when Obama was elected president. “Ah, look at what we are. Look at how, this is America.” You know? And then it just sort of started turning because these people surfaced like stirring up muddy water.

What gives? 24.5.69.164 (talk) 16:21, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
