Media Hound and ScaraB

Media Hound and ScaraB, after going over all your previous postings about the ICD, it is very hard to ignore the feeling, that you are not a neutral and objective user, but rather individuals who are for whatever reason (perhaps former intern/worker/partner there, or carrying a hidden agenda, even perhaps the owner of the hater blog against the ICD, but you surly had some sort of relation with them) aiming to discredit the ICD, or create doubts about its legitimacy, using the Wikipedia source as a tool. I have doubts, as well, that you are using Mako (probably you also contacted him directly), who seems as a legitimate guy (he is also not hiding behind any anonymity) to be on the look-out for so called “controversies” about the ICD (such as working agreement between Interns/volunteers and the ICD), while on the other hand using your computer skills ignoring, annulling, deleting the hundreds of legitimate independent resources that are notable by Wikipedia standards, and which I am currently working on to restore and to publish them according to the best rules/norms/guidance of Wikipedia.

For example, National Public Radio covered some of their conferences in a very interesting way, which can be found in a 5 second Google search, see here ( http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=111346468 ). I found it, and I was surprised to see that it was also on the Wikipedia page and was taken down by Mako. Furthermore, I was shocked to read the comment below made by Mako, who now has doubts also regarding NPR and their reporter Monika Mueller Kroll?!! To my understanding a public remark like this one, could easily fall into the category of Slander/Defamation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libel . I see it necessary to contact Monika Mueller Kroll, as well as NPR and inform them about Mako´s statement.

Therefore , my main concern here is that you are not an objective nor neutral wiki users, and this is why?

From a very brief check you can see that actually all of your activities around the ICD, are on a negative side and you are not trying to bring any kind of neutral sources (which could be easily found) and you attempt only to publish a non-fact information in order to de legitimize the creditability of the ICD.

In addition to the one-sided postings coming from your side, I can learn from the speed of your reaction to the corrections made my Mako and from your willingness to support any negative claim in a very short time, that you are very much committed to promote a non-objective, biased campaign against the ICD.

In addition, I am very curious about the last pdf file that media hound posted here in this page and I am wondering how did you acquire this document? I tried to get this pdf in Verdi´s website and also on the internet and failed. I would be happy if you can send me a reliable source where I can download this document.

I am also wondering, as you are for some reason so interested with the ICD, whether you are in direct contact with them, for example in order to ask them for their assistance in referring you to already published reliable sources? Have you? If you did not contact them, it could imply that you are not an objective user that is interested and willing to do a serious research as reasonably required. The first source to search for information about an organization is to contact the organization itself (especially in cases like this where doubts/concerns are raised), because they can assist you and also can refer at the same time to any concern you or others may have (every professional write/journalist would do so). As you never mentioned did nor published any information about the ICD (except these negative posts and the work made by Mako, which actually simply deleted all text in the page) I assume that you did not contact them and are not interested to be in dialogue with the ICD. This strength my concerns about your motives and interests in editing the ICD wiki article, and my feeling here is that probably you cannot really remove the anonymity of your users, as you have a serious conflict of interest . I would suggest that firstly you will contact the ICD, to try to get all of the material you are interested in from them, I feel it will be much more efficient, appropriate, right and fast. You wanted to be in contact with me, but not with the source directly (the ICD) for some reason, why?

Once viewing the video clips of lectures, and events of the ICD, as well as reading in full other press articles, one can learn that there are many legitimate independent resources that can support this page. In addition, once viewing similar organizations wiki pages you can notice that the wiki articles for other organizations are not in any different standards, to say the least. I wonder and will be very interested to know, why you have chosen the ICD wiki page from all these thousands of organizations, and if you are planning to show such same care and concerns about the pages of other organizations, or you keep this privilege of dedicating your full attention, free time and devotion to the ICD only. From the first place, I could not understand what is the big fuss about the ICD, an organization like many hundreds of thousands across the world, that according to their website, and the publications, such as videos, reports, etc. are simply trying to promote their very legitimate agenda and achieve their objectives and why should be so many talks about this. I’m also surprised to see how such talented people are wasting their days to run such a campaign.

My dear Wikipedia colleagues, all of these activities are seem to be lone-sided and will not be able to be supported by Wikipedia standards. Excuse me, but it doesn't look like a work of a regular user who has honest intentions, it is simply does not make any sense to me. I think that Wikipedia administrators and staffers should be reported about this activity and of the above concerns of using Wikipedia for personal Agenda of a campaign against the ICD, compromising Wikipedia’s standards and reputation.. As mentioned above I am currently working to restore and to publish the page according to the best practices/rules/norms/guidance of Wikipedia.

ICD Conferences Reports – Reliable External Sources to establish Notability

Hello Wikipedia colleagues, I have spent some hours over the past days and collected some independent, objective and reliable sources by reading the ICD online information and then google-ing the events and the conference speaker names to check other sources. As I understand it from the ICD website, ICD events are not public and by invitation only and even do not include invitations to the press or media, this is indicated on the ICD webpage. However despite that, I managed to find a serious amount of material (relative to an NGO) as you will see below, assessing WP:V and also WP:NPOV.

At the bottom of this page I have raised concern to many negative remarks and comments made by Skara B and Media Hound on the ICD Wikipedia page. My major concern here is that it looks like that no matter what material is posted on this Wikipedia page, it will always attract immediately negative reactions of Skara B and Media Hound and they will annul them and say that they not be good enough for them.

Therefore and in order to keep the work on this page as neutral as possible, I decided not to upload material to the Wikipedia page myself, but to post the resources in this talk page. My goal is to provide you with information that, to the best of my opinion, is reliable, objective, and supported by only a AAA sources, such as governmental institutions, top media organizations, high-level speakers (such as Heads of State) and to post them in this talk page to enable those who are interested, to use that for improving the page once and for all.

As the activity of the ICD is very wide and continues over many years, I decided to start with investigating ICD conferences and events firstly and then move to other activities of the ICD as well as to include confirmations from governmental institutions where ICD is registered or able to conduct activities (which I will upload to the talk page in the next days).

However, before we start with the conferences, I would like to draw your attention to the page on the website of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, where the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy is presented, please see the link below:

Now, I will move on to the conferences:

14 Conferences in total – As it seems, the ICD is normally organizing international conferences that are taking place mostly in Berlin, but not only. Usually you can see all of the lectures and interactive discussions and interviews with the speakers in the YouTube page of the ICD. After spending hours watching some of the clips (and there are many) I find that actually this YouTube page can stand alone by itself to provide a proof that all of the ICD conferences did in fact happen and all of the speakers mentioned on the ICD pages did in fact speak at the event, and in time some of them have even paid tribute to the ICD for allowing them the possibility to speak in the ICD. It clearly shows that Mark Donfried is always moderating all lectures and panel discussions and from watching the clips you can clearly see all banners of the ICD in the background verifying that the event is an ICD event. In many cases the speakers are also greeting the institute for its events.

I'll start looking through the DP, but I'm really looking for biographical information and I doubt that the newspaper will provide it. I see that you have gone to great lengths checking references on the ICD article; I just wanted to thank you for that, as I have spent some time on that article as well, and it has been a bit of an uphill battle. Also, well done for checking the rules and guidelines so carefully! SkaraB 21:10, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

SkaraB It's nothing personal! When I signed up for Rfc the one on ICD was one of the first that I believed I could contribute to. Rfc's are a very useful way in seeing how Wiki Land works - the multitude of issues goes from the Prosaic To the Highly Complex and even diplomatic. I may have even de-balkanised the Balkans! P^)

When looking at the Rfc for The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy I was very sceptical and looked at everything. I do assume WP:GOODFAITH but even when assuming that I do assess matters independently - my opinion is my own and stays my own, even if ""I"" change it. I learned a lot by having to check the wondrous ways of Wiki Land - and when it came to referencing and judging carefully against standards, it was also good practice.

That was why, when I had given me opinion on the Rfc I also edited and removed content that was date dependent ( Out of date and unverifiable ) as well as removing citations and links to sources that were no longer valid - and there was no trace in such places as The Internet archive/wayback machine or other similar resources.

I'm happy to dig for info and meet the Wiki standard of Wikipedia:Verifiability, not truth - even if it sticks in My Craw sometimes - Take Deep-fried Mars bar - I know the the entry "The dish is said to have been invented in 1995 in the Haven Chip Bar (now the Carron) in Stonehaven, near Aberdeen on Scotland's northeast coast." is total Rubbish - It's Wrong in so many ways - I was eating deep fried confectionery, including mars bars, at least ten years earlier in Glasgow. .... can't find a source to verify it, but can find loads of people who agree and know that Wiki is wrong. That's the problem with drunken students waking up and wondering why they are covered in chip fat and chocolate - too confused to write about the issue for posterity. I have a personal mission to right that wrong! C'est la vie - options 3 & 4 apply. P^)

I'm also glad somebody else is taking an interest in the article and for trying to shepard things along toward some sort of conclusion (either deletion or an quality encyclopedic article). Benjamin - my interest has been purely academic as it was basically the first RFC I felt I could make rational contribution to. I did not even know that Icd existed until being asked to take part in the Rfc. I am aware that others have been accused of WP:COI, and I have taken note of that but it has in no way reduced my opinion. I have been hunting for rational WP:NPOV sources about Icd, and they just don't exist. I would have cleaned up as you did today - but having asked for Afd I did not wish to be seen as acting against my own actions in asking for Afd. I'm sure that if I had cleaned up so much of the mess I would have been accused of some form of weird revenge, harassment and WP:BADFAITH. It has been amusing being told at the Afd, by the mysterious new editor, that I am wrong and can't read. I'm still in many ways getting used to the arcane ways round here. I have to also say that having looked at the full history of the Icd page it has been used as a shop front - and it's just a pity that it has taken so long for others to recognise and even consider acting. That was why I asked for rapid deletion, it seemed the rational course of action - for me it was G11. Unambiguous advertising or promotion. - others didn't agree. It has taken time to read and check the excessive references provided. I do wish that some would stop just googling, seeing a page of supposed content and saying Notable. When you have hundreds of minor hits due to self promotion and advertising it does skew perceptions. But then again - that's the Googlearchy for you. Dℬig - I did not forget to sign - I deliberately experimented to see if Sinebot has a brain. P^) It turns out not. As long as the signature appears in the post it is accepted ... unless I'm being hounded by Sinebot and it's waiting to pounce again. - I have also awarded Sinebot and "The tireless cybernetic contributor Barnstar" - and best of all, because it was done whilst the Wiki land servers were on the fritz, it got awarded Twice! Now that is Kismet! Sometimes railing against the machine has odd outcomes.

Google books shortcut

Greetings, Media Hound 3. I was happy to see you mention the shortcut to getting refs from Google books in a message at the Teahouse. Unfortunately the link isn't working for me. It might be my computer, however, as it is starting to give me problems and I think I'm going to have to give it to somebody to look at. I'll really miss it! But I wanted to let you know so you could double check it and make sure it's OK. I'm saving it for later, because it could really save me some time.

Thanks for your reply. For some reason that link works -- YEA! And I will definitely look into the other things you listed. It's nice not to get inundated with info when you're really new, but I agree it can be harder to find the helpful tips than it should be. When I think of the hours I spent trying to find where I'd messed up a ref when I first started! I like using the drop down menu in the editing window now. But it's still a lot of cut-and-paste, and I'm a sloppy typist who needs new glasses, so I still waste time with silly errors.

Can I ask you another question? I find I'm wasting time getting to the various sandboxes I've created. Right now I have to click on My Watchlist, then on View and Edit Watchlist, then scroll down and find the one I want and click on it. Is there a way to make a shortcut to them, maybe with tabs at the top of my user page or something? Or just a common sense way to get there quicker? Typing it in isn't really a solution, as I can't always remember what I've called them, and I'm still slow with the symbols. Thanks again.

And yes, for heaven's sake, let's not make it easy on the newbies. Reminds me of my grandmother getting a little upset at a friend of hers who didn't like having a new family from Mexico in her neighborhood, saying we should send them all back where they came from. Hey Tlqk56, I find the best way is for you to create an index in a subpage you will remember. Personally, I have a to do list that I can reach from the tabs on the top of my talk page. I also transclude the to do list onto the top of my talk page for easy reference (and it makes me more motivated to complete them). • Teahouse pilot wraps up after 13 weeks After being piloted on English Wikipedia starting in February, the Teahouse wrapped up its pilot period on May 27, 2012. We expect this is just the beginning for the Teahouse and hope the project will continue to grow in the months to come!

• What you've all been waiting for: Teahouse Pilot Report is released! We look forward to your feedback on the methodology and outcomes of this pilot project.
• ....and if a pilot report wasn't enough, the Teahouse Pilot Metrics Report is out too! Dive into the numbers and survey results to learn about the impact the Teahouse has made on English Wikipedia.
• Teahouse shows positive impact on new editor retention and engagement

• 409 new editors participated during the entire pilot period, with about 40 new editors participating in the Teahouse per week.
• Two weeks after participating, 33% of Teahouse guests are still active on Wikipedia, as opposed to 11% of a similar control group.
• New editors who participated in the Teahouse edit 10x the number of articles, make 7x more global edits, and 2x as much of their content survives on Wikipedia compared to the control group.

• Women participate in the Teahouse 28% of Teahouse participants were women, up from 9% of editors on Wikipedia in general, good news for this project which aimed to have impact on the gender gap too - but still lots to be done here!
• New opportunities await for the Teahouse in phase two as the Teahouse team and Wikipedia community examine ways to improve, scale, and sustain the project. Opportunities for future work include:

• Automating or semi-automating systems such as invites, metrics and archiving
• Experimenting with more ways for new editors to discover the Teahouse
• Building out the social and peer-to-peer aspects further, including exploring ways to make answering questions easier, creating more ways for new editors to help each other and for all participants to acknowledge each other's efforts
• Growing volunteer capacity, continuing to transfer Teahouse administration tasks to volunteers whenever possible, and looking for new ways to make maintenance and participation easier for everyone.

Alberta Municipal Government Board

Thanks for your formatting change to the references on Alberta Municipal Government Board and the advice that you gave me earlier in the teahouse! I tried to implement some changes based on the ideas you gave me, though those changes do not appear to have rectified all the notability issues. I'm having a tough time understanding the issue, and am discussing it with User_talk:Electriccatfish2, though I have yet to get an understanding of the reason for rejection from that user.

Oh how Odd - I do keep pointing to Systemic Bias since January to the people concerned - but this is the first time I have come across Time Zone Bias as an Examplar.

Will some never realise that the Internet is Global - runs 24/7 - and just because you are in one country it does not mean that others are?

Court opened - case heard - judgement supposedly passed - and the Accused not even aware of the events - must be an open and shut case? How Odd!

And such nasty things said with no defence possible - I know that there is the maxim - "Ignorance is no defence in sight of the law" - but I have wonder if there is really such an equitable ignorance of Time Zones in Wiki Land that works on UTC?

It almost looks like gaming the system.
