Do Kyung-soo (born (1993-01-12)January 12, 1993), better known by his stage name D.O., is a South Korean singer and actor. He is a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO and its sub-group EXO-K.

Early life

D.O. was born in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, on January 12, 1993 to a painter father and a hairdresser mother.[1][2] He went to Goyang Poongsan Elementary School, Baekshin Middle School, and Baekseok High School. He has an older brother, Do Seungsoo, who is 3 years older than him. D.O. began singing in primary school and was an avid participant in local singing competitions throughout his high school career.[citation needed]

In 2010, he was advised to audition for S.M. Entertainment after winning a local singing contest.[3] He subsequently became an S.M. Entertainment trainee during his last two years of high school. He performed Na Yoon-kwon's "Anticipation" and Brown Eyed Soul's "My Story" at his S.M. audition.[3]

Career

Music

D.O. was formally introduced as the eighth member of EXO on January 30, 2012.

In July 2013, he was featured in the song "Goodbye Summer" from f(x)'s second studio album Pink Tape. In December 2013, D.O., along with fellow Exo members Baekhyun and Chen, sang the title track for the group's second EP Miracles in December.

In 2014, D.O. performed a solo track titled "Tell Me What Is Love" at EXO's first concert tour "EXOPLANET: THE LOST PLANET". The song was composed and arranged by S.M. songwriter and producer Yoo Young-jin. The full version of the song, titled "Tell Me (What Is Love)" featuring vocals by both D.O. and Yoo Young-jin, was later released in February 2016 as the second weekly single of S.M. Entertainment's Station music project. In November 2014, D.O. released an original soundtrack titled "Crying Out" for the movie Cart in which he played a supporting role.

Acting

In 2014, D.O. made his acting debut in the movie Cart, playing the supporting role of Choi Tae-young, a high school student and son of a grocery store worker and union member (played by Yum Jung-ah). The movie premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival in September. Later in 2014, D.O. played the supporting role of Han Kang-woo in the SBS drama It's Okay, That's Love, which starred Gong Hyo-jin and Jo In-sung in the lead roles.[4] For his performance in the drama, D.O. was later nominated for the Best New Actor and Male TV Popularity awards at the 51st Baeksang Arts Awards.[5] In 2015, it was revealed that D.O. was ranked number one by critics among 40 idol-actors who participated in dramas in 2014.

In May 2015, D.O. was cast as the male lead in the romantic drama movie Pure Love, alongside actress Kim So-hyun. The movie began filming in June in Goheung County, Jeollanam Province, South Korea, and premiered in February 2016. In June 2015, D.O. appeared in KBS's new drama Hello Monster, playing the psychopath Lee Joon-young. His acting drew high praise from netizens, critics, and industry insiders.[6][7] In July, it was announced that D.O. would star as Doo-young, a national level Judo athlete, in the film Brother alongside actress Park Shin-hye and actor Jo Jung-suk. In November 2015, D.O. was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor award at the 52nd Grand Bell Awards for his role as Tae-young in Cart.[8]

In January 2016, D.O. was announced as a lead in the cast of voice actors in the feature-length animated film, Underdog. The movie is slated to premiere in 2017. D.O. will voice Moongchi, a stray dog who is separated from his owner.[9] In April 2016, D.O. was casted in Kim Yong-hwa's With God, a blockbuster adaptation of the same-titled webtoon about a court in the afterlife where the deceased undergo multiple trials for 49 days. He will act alongside with A-List actors Ha Jung-woo, Cha Tae-hyun and Ju Ji-hoon.[10]
