<!-- Start of message -->
My draft of a page for Dr. Sharon Weiss-Greenberg was rejected partly because the same information was uploaded to my User page and I was mistaken as have written the page about myself, but I am not Sharon Weiss-Greenberg, and as a new Wikipedia editor accidentally uploaded all the information I meant to use towards creating a page to my user page. I have just fixed this error, but still have questions. It also said my article didn't sound like it was from a neutral point of view-how can I change that? I also said that the sources I used were written by the subject of the article, which inst true. I will rewrite my submission in compliance with the policies as best as I can but am a little muddled on how to include more verfiable sources when in my opinion the article is loaded with sources.

15:55:10, 11 August 2016 review of submission by Khaudacity

I believe I followed the guidelines and format when I entered references. Can you please specify what exactly needs to be corrected in order for the article to be approved?

Thank you.

Khaudacity (talk) 15:56, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Khaudacity. When you use <ref>PUT REFERENCE HERE</ref>, instead of putting them at the end of the article, put them in the text of the body. The {{reflist}} at the end tells the computer "put all the references here".

So for example, if I put this:

Johnny told the devil "you son of a gun, I'm the best there's ever been."<ref>The Devil went down to Georgia. (1979) Charlie Daniels. ''Epic Records''.</ref>

What you end up getting is this:

Johnny told the devil "you son of a gun, I'm the best there's ever been."[1]

References

  1. ^ The Devil went down to Georgia. (1979) Charlie Daniels. Epic Records.

Hope this helps. TimothyJosephWood 18:55, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

17:44:13, 12 August 2016 review of submission by Triminator

Hello, 1. Could you tell me how to properly cite an offline magazine issue labeled September 2016 but was released in July 16, I am having some error messages in the date that I can't resolve. My attempt follows: "Best Industrial Trimmer". High Times. Trans High Corporation. September, 2016. {{cite magazine}}: |access-date= requires |url= (help); Check date values in: |access-date= and |date= (help) 2. Should I remove the press releases from the article? I was told nobody cares about what we have written about our machines but wasn't clear if I needed to remove them or if was fine to leave them. 3. Could I get some feedback on my edits? My first submission sounded too much like marketing copy, I've gone through and cleaned it up but I'm not sure if it's acceptable. Thank you Triminator (talk) 17:44, 12 August 2016 (UTC) Triminator (talk) 17:44, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Triminator. Self-published sources are not forbidden, but they don't count toward establishing the notability of a subject. If you want an article on the company, you are going to have to show that others have written about it in reliable secondary sources.
Also, you should probably look into changing your username, since having a username that represents a company is not allowed. TimothyJosephWood 17:52, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

10:15:50, 13 August 2016 review of submission by 112.198.83.241

I would like to know if I can add links to my draft in official articles (e.g. List of reportedly haunted locations Balete Drive etc.). If this is prohibited, must I need to wait a little bit more time for my draft's submission to be accepted?

The links that I refer are in this form:

(Main article: ....)

I would also want to ask something: My question: How many weeks (how long) do most articles for creation / drafts take before they can be accepted (or declined)?

112.198.83.241 (talk) 10:15, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You should never add links to a draft to any actual live articles. Please be patient and wait to see whether the draft is accepted or not. --Orange Mike | Talk 10:31, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

11:34:21, 13 August 2016 review of submission by Paul attick

Draft:Fatima Church — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paul attick (talkcontribs) 13:15, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I got a message that my article is not notable. I have seen many other similar article on churches and crated my article on the same lines. Kindly help me understand what i need to do in order to get my article on wikipedia.

thanks

Paul attick (talk) 11:34, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Paul attick: While it's a good sign that articles on other churches already exist, it doesn't necessarily mean Wikipedia should have an article on every church. Every article needs to independently establish that its subject is notable. You can do that by simply adding references to reliable sources where the church has been written about (that aren't associated with the church themselves). 10:34:09, 14 August 2016 review of submission by 112.198.82.166

Hello, I have two questions: 1) How can I split the references list into two or more columns? (I already have 30 references in one-column ref list) 2) Can I add the ff. cat's

Category:Lists of places Category:Paranormal places in the Philippines Category:Reportedly haunted locations in the Philippines

to my draft?

Thank you for your answers to my questions.

112.198.82.166 (talk) 10:34, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

1) First make sure you're editing your article in source mode (click "Edit source" instead of "Edit"), then find {{reflist}} near the bottom of your article and replace it with {{Reflist|30em}}. This will sort your references into columns that are 30 ems wide (so the exact number of columns will depend on the width of your window).
2) Back in the visual editor, click and then "Categories".
Hope that helps! Joe Roe (talk) 12:20, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

12:17:25, 14 August 2016 review of submission by SeneschalW

Hi there. I'm writing an article about a film, and I'd like to include its poster. But I don't have the licence. The film's production has since shut down and no-one with any authority is replying to my emails. Will I be put on death row for including the poster anyway?

SeneschalW (talk) 12:17, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SeneschalW. Film posters are usually allowed to be used in the relevant article without a license, under the fair use doctrine. Fair use images should be uploaded to Wikipedia, not Wikimedia Commons, and you can look at the rationale for another film poster (e.g. File:TheAvengers2012Poster.jpg) to help you fill in the form correctly.
However, you'll need to wait until your draft is accepted before you do that. Non-free content can't be used in drafts, and if your image isn't used in an article shortly after you've uploaded it, it will be deleted. Joe Roe (talk) 12:31, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

17:28:13, 14 August 2016 review of submission by 2604:2000:E016:A700:932:355B:6CE5:67F8

The reviewer said it didnt meet wikis inline citation requirements.

The reviewer gave a link to the requirements.

The requirements say "Wikipedia's content policies require an inline citation to a reliable source for only the following four types of statements:

Direct quotations

Any statement that has been challenged (e.g., by being removed, questioned on the talk page, or tagged with [citation needed], or any similar tag)

Any statement that you believe is likely to be challenged.

Contentious material, whether negative, positive, or neutral, about living persons"

It then says "Our sourcing policies do not require an inline citation for any other type of material, although it is typical for editors to voluntarily exceed these minimum standards."

But this doesnt require inline citations according the the requirements that the reviewer linked to. I dont understand.

The references were not made properly. I've fixed it for you. Mduvekot (talk) 17:59, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That was very nice of you Mduvekot. It looks much better.Though I still dont understand how it did not meet wikis inline citation requirements that I was told to look at. I repeated them above. But this looks much better. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:E016:A700:932:355B:6CE5:67F8 (talk) 18:57, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability. Wikipedia requires significant coverage about the subject in reliable sources that are independent of the subject."

Reliable sources that are independent of the subject doesn't make any sense. It is contradictory in itself. You are definitely not gonna find information on mathematics subject in beauty magazine. I am very surprised that my contribution on physics hasn't been deleted because I referenced physics articles. On second thought I may even delete them myself. If You intend to follow that rule You may as well delete 99.9% of wikipedia. This is my second declined article because of that rule and You can be sure that it was my last time trying to contribute. And it is a common sense if a subject is total bullshit, hope we have brains and can distinguish. You have wiki on Kim Kardashian. Very notable person. If You are fapping.

"Independent of the subject" really has to do with articles about people and companies, and means published by a reliable source that isn't associated with the person or company that the article is about. For instance, the annual report of Company A isn't independent of Company A or of the CEO of Company A. The concept of independence of the subject doesn't really apply to articles about topics. Hello, are the sources I'm citing not reliable? Complex, Billboard, LA Times? My article keeps getting declined.

Kimmburlay (talk) 20:12, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Only one of those is about the label. The others are about a band on that label, and do not demonstrate the label's notability. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:16, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This looks like a copy-and-paste of a Word document, which does not work here. There are no citations, just footnote numbers where citations would be. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:18, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
A copy-and-paste of Koobface article with title change, it seems. -- 1Wiki8........................... (talk) 12:54, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Speedied as a copyvio, it clearly is an unattributed copy of Koobface. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 13:08, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

00:45:12, 16 August 2016 review of submission by {{SUBST:VIRKSAITE}}

First, you already asked at the Teahouse, and were given a detailed critique. Your article is not in the formal neutral tone of an encyclopedic article. Second, after your draft was declined twice, you deleted the record of the decline. AFC decline notices state that they should not be removed. They remain as part of the history of the draft, and are removed by a script when the draft is accepted. Maybe you didn't notice that you are not supposed to remove the decline notices. Now you know. Do not remove AFC decline notices, and just asking the same question in multiple places until you get the answer that you want doesn't help, and may be considered forum shopping. 11:46:26, 16 August 2016 review of submission by Pichiciago

Is CNN considered a reliable source? Our company was covered by a 15-minute segment on CNN Intermational, I thought this would count as notability. Yet the page has been refused. What else can we offer ? We have been published in plenty of German-language publications, do those count? (EDIT: btw we did not solicit any coverage on CNN - they came to us).

Pichiciago (talk) 11:46, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pichiciago. CNN is certainly considered a reliable source. If the German publications you mentioned fulfill our criteria for a reliable source, they can count towards establishing notability too – the language doesn't matter.
However, I noticed that in your draft you only cited four sources and only two of them were independent of the company. You can't expect the your reviewer to know take into account sources you haven't cited! Moreover, the two independent sources you mentioned don't actually mention the company, they're about a project it participated in. If a company is notable enough for inclusion in the encyclopaedia there should be substantial information about the company in multiple, independent reliable sources.
More seriously, you said "our company": according to our conflict of interest policy editors are strongly discouraged from editing articles in which they have a financial conflict of interest, include an article about your employer. I'd advise you not to continue working on the draft. Wikipedia is not a promotional vehicle; if your company is notable, somebody will write an article about it in time. 20:08:20, 16 August 2016 review of draft by Tpalum24

I have submitted a page for review but I realized i submitted a sandbox page from my user instead of a draft for the page. This is my first time making a page and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to change this or if it is something that people who are reviewing will see quickly and change. I can't move it out of the sandbox because my user is too new and I couldn't understand if I could do anything or not from the help pages.

Thanks
