The T20 Global League is a planned Twenty20 cricket tournament by the Cricket South Africa to be held in South Africa.[1] The league will feature eight privately-owned teams, with the inaugural season scheduled to be played in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Teams

The teams participating in the T20 Global League will be based out of eight cities across South Africa. On 19 June 2017, CSA confirmed the names of the eight venues that will be hosting a team:[2]

Franchise owners

The owners of the the eight teams went through a thorough tender process, before they were eventually chosen by Cricket South Africa (CSA). In March 2017, CSA announced to have received more than 150 expressions of interest in its team ownership process, with significant interest from both South African and international parties.[3] The owners were unveiled at a function in London on 19 June 2017. Players

There are 16 marquee players that have thus far been unveiled by CSA - eight current South Africa internationals and eight of the best foreign players in the world game.

The foreign marquee players are:

  1. Dwayne Bravo (West Indies)
  2. Chris Gayle (West Indies)
  3. Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka)
  4. Brendon McCullum (New Zealand)
  5. Eoin Morgan (England)
  6. Kevin Pietersen (England)
  7. Kieron Pollard (West Indies)
  8. Jason Roy (England)

The Proteas marquee players had been named in April. However, the franchises they will represent only became known at the franchise owner announcement on 19 June 2017. The players and the teams they will represent are listed below:

  1. Hashim Amla - Durban (Kingsmead)
  2. Quinton de Kock - Benoni (Willowmoore Park)
  3. AB de Villiers - Pretoria (SuperSport Park)
  4. JP Duminy - Cape Town (Newlands)
  5. Faf du Plessis - Stellenbosch (Boland Park)
  6. David Miller - Bloemfontein (Mangaung Oval)
  7. Kagiso Rabada - Johannesburg (Wanderers Stadium)
  8. Imran Tahir - Port Elizabeth (St. George’s Park)
