Nushki District (Template:Lang-ur) is one of the districts of Balochistan province, Pakistan. The administration of the Nushki district was taken over from the Khan of Kalat by the Indian government in 1896, and was leased from him on a perpetual quit rent in 1899.

History

Nushki initially belongs to rakhshanis i.e., Mandaee, Badini and Jamaldini tribes. Later on Khan of Kalat sent Mengal and Sumalani tribes along with Pirkani, Siapad Sarparah and Rodeni tribes as border security force against Afghan invaders.

The district of Nushki is administratively subdivided into the following tehsils:

Demographics

According to the 1998 census, Nushki (then a subdivision of Chagai District) had a total population of 98,000. The major first language was Balochi, spoken by 92% of the population, followed by Pashto with 4.8%.[2] The following tribes are found in the district:[citation needed]
