Hi Ed, can you delete the File:TippieCOBLogo it seems like someone has uploaded it as nonfree media, and this one should be deleted. TippieLover1921 (talk) 19:30, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

     Done. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:59, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Your block set on 39.53.253.153

Just leaving you an FYI that I extended the block you set from 31 hours to 72 hours and left the user a note. They also engaged in repeated copyright violations during this time and you beat me to blocking the IP by mere seconds (lol). I felt that a block for the copyright violations were necessary, so I went ahead and extended the duration you set instead. If you have questions, objections, concerns, etc, please don't hesitate to let me know (ping me in your response) and I'll be happy to discuss it with you. I don't think you'll take issue with this, but I figured I'd let you know just in case. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:31, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Request for Wikipedia:Rollback rights

Hello Edgar181, I kindly request you to grant me rollback rights so that I can fight vandalism.I'm a member of WikiProject Uganda but in my early editing trials, I ended up blanking the project page, it was unreplaced until of recent when I learnt how to replace removed content on a page and did it myself.I discovered there's need for rollbacker rights to get things done with one click.Waiting for your parental assistance. Warm regards. I'm Agaba Perez (talk) 05:42, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Agaba Perez: Done. Please make sure that you only use it appropriately per guidelines at Wikipedia:Rollback. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:06, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Human tooth development

Edgar, I reverted some vandalism on the human tooth development page. Hopefully I did it correctly. Waughd (talk) 17:07, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Yes, you did it right. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:29, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks Edgar181, I'm glad I didn't break anything. Waughd (talk) 22:51, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you didn't provide a reason as to why you upgraded the user to rollback, was it a mistake? --Thegooduser Life Begins With a Smile :) 🍁 02:06, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No, granting rollback wasn't unintentional. See the request above. As a user in good standing who's been here since 2017, I believe it was a reasonable request. However, it didn't work out well in this case. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:45, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Edgar181, I notice you moved the user's page to this draft page as I was doing my recent changes patrolling. I checked through the draft, as a lot of it looked very promotionally written, and noticed that the entire content of this draft is either wrong or purposely lying. The links either do not work, or point to sources that do not appear to mention the organisation at all. Is it a hoax? Agent00x (talk) 12:30, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't looked too closely at the content, but it does appear to have verifiability problems (to say the least). It's on my watch list and if the draft ever gets submitted, either I or someone else will review it carefully for accuracy. For now, I've tagged it with {{accuracy}}. Thanks for letting me know of the problem. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:02, 17 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Entry about Daniele Orsato you deleted

I would appreciate if you don't delete article data based on facts, it's not controversial, it's a fact, if it's a fact it's unbiased, if it's unbiased you have no right to delete it. Added 2 sources so that you can take a proper look at something before deleting it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.0.33.179 (talk) 15:19, 19 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can tell, this happens often with articles about referees. An encyclopedia article about a referee doesn't need to catalog every call they made that you're unhappy with. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:50, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Piperidines, etc.

Hi there. Looking at your logs, I fear that my article creation might be causing others a lot of work. I apologize if that is the case, because my intentions are good even if my methods are occasionally inept. This request also applies to @Graeme Bartlett: and @DMacks:. If any of you have suggestions that would make my efforts less onerous for you, please pass them on here or on my Talk page. --Smokefoot (talk) 16:03, 19 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Smokefoot: Naturally building an encyclopedia involves work. I look at new pages and edit them because I enjoy it. So don't hold back from creating articles. Some kinds of editing may be more onerous for you, but easier for others. I use some javascripts I wrote to make adding parameter values to the Chembox easy. I am also slowly going through the articles missing PubChem CIDs and upgrading them. I am upto "J" so far. I also notice that Edgar181 fixes up things I forgot or are too hard for me to do in article that I start (eg capitalisation, redirects and pictures). So we work as a team to make the encyclopedia better. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:10, 19 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Smokefoot and Graeme Bartlett: Sorry for the slow reply. The articles you create, Smokefoot, are great - I certainly wouldn't call anything you do here "inept". Edits I've made to articles you've created are mostly trivial. It's the kind light housekeeping that I often find relaxing around here. Please don't worry about causing extra work. One suggestion I have is to remember when renaming an article to use the Move button, rather than cutting the text from one title and pasting into the other. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:49, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:03, 26 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you just blocked this user for edit filter tripping. Did you mean to only do so for 24 hours? I didn't look at the filter hits themselves, but I usually see indefinite blocks occur as a result. Just wanted to give you an FYI in case you, by chance, didn't mean to set an expiration. ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 12:50, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

24 hours was intentional. All of the edits that triggered the edit filter were essentially "test edits" - just adding some random text to the article - rather than anything apparently malicious. 24 hours is enough to stop the immediate disruption, but lenient enough to allow them to return if they want to move beyond test edits and actually contribute. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:55, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

    Administrators' newsletter – May 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2019).

    Guideline and policy news

    Technical news

    • XTools Admin Stats, a tool to list admins by administrative actions, has been revamped to support more types of log entries such as AbuseFilter changes. Two additional tools have been integrated into it as well: Steward Stats and Patroller Stats.

    Arbitration

    • In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases, the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions; administrators found failing to have adequately done so will not be resysopped automatically. All current administrators have been notified of this change.
    • Following a formal ratification process, the arbitration policy has been amended (diff). Specifically, the two-thirds majority required to remove or suspend an arbitrator now excludes (1) the arbitrator facing suspension or removal, and (2) any inactive arbitrator who does not respond within 30 days to attempts to solicit their feedback on the resolution through all known methods of communication.

    Edit on pages

Hello, I do work for Brenntag. My major edit was for the Brenntag home page to add a genuine link. We have launched a portal which I'd like to add as a legitimate addition. How do I do this without breaking the rules.

    Regards, kluze08

According to Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines (see WP:COI for details) you should not, in general, be editing articles where you have a such a conflict. If you think the external link should be added to the article, you can make that suggestion on the article's talk page. Then uninvolved editors can take a look a decide whether it is appropriate or not. Personally, I don't think an external link to the company's "online platform for digital marketing and e-commerce" is necessary for the article and the link in the company's main website, which is already listed in the External links section, is sufficient. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:07, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Sock of

Hi, you blocked Drama panchi (talk · contribs) last month for copyright and general competency. They've returned as BeypanahDrama (talk · contribs), and it's a really obvious sockpuppet with the same competency concerns. The editor interaction report makes it really clear, plus they've created several articles in main space that they created earlier that are in draft space. Would you mind taking a look? Thanks! Ravensfire (talk) 14:38, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, it does appear to be the same individual. I have indefinitely blocked the account. I suspect this won't be the last one, so please feel free to let me know if you encounter other accounts with the same issue. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 17:45, 15 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Will do - appreciate the help. Wish they'd just been open to discussion and not gone down this route. Ravensfire (talk) 12:07, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Regarding User:Aasthabd

Hi Edgar181. You deleted Aasthabd (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)'s user page for G11. Please refer to my UAA report currently there [1]. Since all his created pages have been deleted I am unable to remember the specifics, but I UAA'ed him as his username seems to be related to the company article he created and then deleted. Thus I believe he should be indefed for promotional UAA. Regards, Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 14:38, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, you might want to refer to [2] and tally this to his deleted page. Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 14:39, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have now blocked the user. Thanks for letting me know. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:44, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you decline my report at WP:AIV? It wasn't a content dispute, it was pure vandalism (or at worse WP:NOTHERE). Hjuhbj ssb should be banned. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 03:02, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

AIV is for obvious vandalism. Administrators are not experts in every topic and can't necessarily tell if certain information is correct or incorrect, so under these conditions immediately blocking isn't appropriate and other venues such as WP:ANI where more complex issues can be evaluated are better at handling it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:28, 22 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Forgot to block. Done. Cheers! -- Alexf(talk) 12:00, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Thanks for catching that! Don't know what happened. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:01, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need for registered editor to make major edit

The purported “3D” structure shown in the Abamectin box is not in fact 3D when clicked; rather, it presents this macrocycle errantly/deceptively as a planar, PAH-like form. To add insult to injury, the misrepresentation of this complex chemistry is apparently coded into the box so it cannot be changed. Can you please see to this and any related errors regarding this family of complex, truly and critically 3D (not planar 2D) structures? As well, in the long term, features of boxes that are automatically generated should contain, in the markup, some feature or mechanism to allow a knowledable general editor (not specialising in the boxes) to address cases when the automatically filled/generated information is incorrect. Appreciate your leadership on that matter as well. Thank you. 2600:1008:B10D:1089:11E2:20DA:C2FD:6533 (talk) 19:27, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I am sorry to see so much of your valuable, expert time to be taken up with administrative matters. Kudos and best wishes. 2600:1008:B10D:1089:11E2:20DA:C2FD:6533 (talk) 19:27, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Thanks for catching the error and letting me know. This problem that you have encountered is a known limitation of the website that generates the 3D structures. It simply fails with large molecules. To remove the link to the incorrect 3D structure, the text "| Jmol=None" can be added to the infobox as I have done in this edit. Please feel to do this yourself the next time you encounter this issue. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 20:13, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
