Xanthochroi

Hi! I noticed your deletion of Xanthochroi. I 'voted' in the discussion just above that one and I noticed this when looking for the outcome of that. I think redirecting to Historical_race_concepts#Thomas_Huxley's_racial_definitions would be a good use for Xanthochroi. Searching for Xanthochroi points to several pages but it is not clear that that one is the one explaining the concept, so the redirect would be helpful for readers, I presume. If you do not oppose I will undelete and retarget the redirect within the weekend. - Nabla (talk) 10:47, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of "Arthrex" Article

Hi Explicit! I noticed you deleted the article on Arthrex back in April 2021. When I tried to see what the page looked like, all I could find was just a one-liner about it being a medical device company (so understandable that it got deleted, if that's the case), but I'm just seeking some clarity on the deletion. So my questions are: One, is my observation on its content accurate? Two, was the limited information and content the reason for your deletion (if not, would you mind sharing the basis for deletion)? And three, do you feel the subject has notability or other issues that would make it inappropriate for its own Wikipedia article (because I am thinking about researching, writing and (re-)publishing an article on Arthrex, but obviously don't want to waste my time if it seems like the community is against it having its own page). Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wiki Page Polisher (talkcontribs) 21:35, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Wiki Page Polisher: Hi, I actually deleted Arthrex when it became a cross-namespace redirect after the page was moved to Draft:Arthrex. The original article was deleted via proposed deletion by DGG in 2016. I have made a copy of its contents here, where the full deletion rationale can be viewed. There was more information included at that time than in the aforementioned draft. Regarding notability, the pertinent guideline is WP:COMPANY. plicit 00:11, 24 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting a page move

Hi admin, last week I proposed a split of YG Entertainment, but no input was given by any other editor and was archived by a bot today (Talk:YG Entertainment/Archive 1#Split proposed).

Hi, some time ago I pinned several wikipedia pages for a search, but one of this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Less-than-whole_citizens has been deleted, honestly I don't remember the content, so I don't contest the motivations original search / duplicate content, but since I don't find it in any cache and I don't remember if I really needed it, if you can copy without restoring it, paste even the simple text in this space, so I note it and then, of course you can delete this answer. You would be doing me a great favor.

G13 issue

Hello, Explicit,

Because you work a lot with G13s and with SDZeroBot's lists, I just wanted to alert you that the current list, User:SDZeroBot/G13 eligible, is not accurate. These drafts are actually not eligible until early September which you would notice when you looked at the page history of the drafts. I don't know if you've noticed but SDZeroBot, which just started operating in September 2020, has a hard understanding that months have a different number of days. So, since February had 28 days, it thinks that August 30th is September 2nd. I've left a note about this with the bot operator, SD0001, but I've told him before about this glitch back in February when the bot skipped three days of reports and it still isn't fixed.

Any way, I thought I'd inform you about this in case you were checking out the SDZeroBot pages. Take care, Liz Read! Talk! 01:31, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: I don't use User:SDZeroBot/G13 eligible in particular, I've just stuck to User:SDZeroBot/G13 soon since it does the job well enough. I noticed the gap between the 28th and the 1st, so I knew not to deal with abandoned drafts for three days. plicit 03:10, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help

Hello, dear administrator, I hope everything is all right with you. The reason I'm writing to you is because I need help on Basil I Wikipedia page. Future edits on this page will lead to a war of edits. I will try to explain the situation. The question is about the origin of Basil, which most likely indicates that he was an Armenian, then a Greek, the number of historians who clearly indicate his Armenian origin is much greater than those who say that he was a Greek or a Slavic. I don't want to blame anyone, but I feel that the problem with other editors may be related to the Armenian nationality, otherwise I don't see any other reason why sources provided by me can be removed.

I will indicate those parts of the article that, in my opinion, are written in a manipulative way

  1. First, the part where I mentioned that he spoke Armenian fluently, and he had a strong accent in Greek, was removed, moreover, this was mentioned many years ago in the same discussion section on the page. I think that language and accent can indicate and help to understand the origin.
  2. “The name of his mother points to a Greek origin on the maternal side”,  I do not agree with this, because historical articles should be based on historian works, and not on instructions and hints provided by users. Since I think this sentence is inappropriate and is manipulative.
  3. The general scholarly consensus is that Basil's father was "probably" of Armenian origin I do not agree with this sentence, as there is manipulation and absolute nonsense in it. First, how can we say "scientific consensus" if I have provided more sources in which his Armenian origin is confirmed without any doubt, and secondly, since it is written after his mother's name, it will affect the reader.
  4. Norman Tobias / “Tobias, the author of the only dedicated biography of Basil I in English”. part of the origin  is based on the work of Norman Tobias, in which he cannot draw a conclusion about his origin. While other historians pointing to his Armenian origin, are removed and not even considered. moreover, it contains details about Tobias ' experience, for example, he is from the University of Toronto and he is the only one who wrote a biography of Basil in English. I don't think this is correct about the exclusivity of the English language, because I don't think that historians who write or speak different languages are worse or better than Tobias, and if we talk about universities, one of the sources that I provided is connected with Oxford, and the other with the University of Chicago.
  5. the user who canceled my edits personally attacked me, saying that " You seem to be just a nationalist troll, arguments are being wasted on you." which leads me to the conclusion that his actions are related to nationality, and not to facts and sources, moreover. She/he is undoubtedly sure that Basil was a Greek, since during our conversation and in the article it was mentioned several times that Basi’l fathers could be partially Armenian, while this is manipulationt, because of the hint that she/he dropped in the article where she/he mentioned his mother's name, and is trying to manipulate by saying that his father could be partially Armenian."
  6. Dear administrator, I believe that history should be based on facts and sources, I believe that Wikipedia readers deserve to receive objective information, I believe that hints should not be part of an article, I believe that historians should write history, I believe that manipulations should not be part of Wikipedia, I believe that articles should not be based on only one historian, I believe in common sense, and if we have more facts and sources about something, Wikipedia editors should not contradict them, because then they "want”, That's why I'm asking you to step in and stop future editing wars.Tatul (talk) 09:30, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Undelete page for The Hired Heart movie

I wouldn't consider it "not notable" as this movie is playing on Amazon prime. I can't read the original page because it's deleted but it's an average movie of the typical rom-com type with at least one actor with a wiki page. I see no reason why the page should be deleted just because a couple of people couldn't find information on it. Other viewers may want to look it up as I did.

It has modest ratings: https://www.amazon.com/Hired-Heart-Penelope-Ann-Miller/dp/B01MRCHB8W https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_hired_heart https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0128251/

@Azikqua: Hi, The Hired Heart was deleted as a result from the consensus formed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Hired Heart, which I can not unilaterally overturn. Please note that the topic of an article must meet the notability criteria in order to justify its inclusion on Wikipedia. In this case, the pertinent page is the notability guideline for films. Being available on Amazon Prime does not confer notability, nor does the existence of one of the actor's pages—notability in not inherited from a related notable subject. The reviews you refer to are not by film critics, but by users of those websites. As user-generated content, these also can not be accepted to establish the film's notability. plicit 06:52, 2 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Undelete request for page on Osmosis Solitaire

You removed the following page on 18 February 2020, with this note: "Expired PROD, concern was: No evidence of notability and has been unsourced since 2007." https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Osmosis_%28solitaire%29

I'm not surprised it was unsourced and no evidence of notability provided, since not many people are active in the "solitaire games" part of Wikipedia. I have been doing a lot of work in this area over the past 18 months, researching different solitaire games, and providing references in various articles. So in this case, regrettably, it's not that it isn't notable, but simply that nobody stepped forward to provide the evidence needed.

The original page can be restored, or alternatively source an initial working version by reproducing the content here: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Solitaire_card_games/Osmosis

Published rules can be found in the following books:

  • 101 Great Card Games, David Galt
  • The Complete Book of Solitaire & Patience Games, Albert H. Morehead & Geoffrey Mott-Smith
  • 150 Ways to play Solitaire, Alphonse Moyse, Jr.
  • The Penguin Book of Patience, David Parlett
  • Card Games for One, Michael Johnstone
  • World's Best Card Games for One, Sheila Anne Barry
  • Collins Patience Card Games, Trevor Day and The Diagram Group

The above sources can be confirmed here: http://www.solitaireforever.com/sf2/games/osmosis.html Osmosis is also covered in this article.

Many software programs for solitaire implement Osmosis, including:

Alternative name is Treasure Trove:

Relevant image: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Osmosis-Treasure_Trove_(solitaire)_Layout.jpg

Hope that gives you something to work with, and rather than start from scratch, it would be easiest if the previous article could be restored, and then I can add some sources (obviously commercial software sites aren't suitable as sources, but only books). Once reinstated, it can be added again here as well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_patience_games

Undeletion request, continued

Hello again, I'm writing to follow up on our previous discussion on your Talk page with regard to my request for File:Lee Weiner, outside Federal Building in Chicago during conspiracy trial, Feb 11 1970.jpeg to be restored to Lee Weiner. I realized after our discussion that I should have stated I am a connected contributor to the article (family member) - the COI is disclosed on my userpage and the article Talk page, and I apologize for not mentioning it sooner. After our discussion, I updated the article with content supporting the notability of his appearance at the time of the trial, including an interview published after our discussion; there is now information in the Trial section that also relates to the Post-trial section, as well as commentary in the Popular culture section. Thank you very much for your previous feedback; any further feedback you may have is welcome and appreciated. Thanks again, Beccaynr (talk) 03:01, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Beccaynr: Hi, the article now seems to describe in three separate instances, but not particularly about how it's presented in the photo. The first mention is about a poster, which only describes lights in their hair. The second and third mention haircuts, but do not elaborate on what the hair looked like beforehand. Still not quite subject to commentary needed to justify its inclusion. plicit 02:37, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response - I just added the date [1] (February 14, 1970) of the contempt conviction (which was followed by the jail haircut), which was 3 days after the photo was taken - I agree the content about the poster is not helpful, but the now-clarified depiction of what he looked like before the haircuts reported by The New York Times is maybe now more notable if the date is clearly included with the image? I was also thinking the ABC15 article that finds his comparisons, including the haircut, to modern events notable ("Member of 'Chicago 7' compares Phoenix protest arrests to 1968 incident") adds some support because the image adds visual context about his appearance that text alone cannot. It is his commentary, but it is published by an independent and reliable source. Also, in the Popular culture section, Nathan J. Robinson of Current Affairs notes Weiner's appearance as different than how it is depicted in the most recent Chicago 7 film, which also seems to be something that text alone is unable to convey, and a form of commentary about Weiner's actual appearance during the trial as compared to the film. Overall, the notability of his appearance seems related to the circumstances in which his hair was politicized back then, and how it was not accurately portrayed in the recent film. I am enthusiastic about adding images to enhance encyclopedia articles, but I also recognize there is a greater need for care and caution with non-free images than I initially understood. If this explanation and the edit help justify the non-free use of this image, I think it would be a great addition, but I also understand if there is still insufficient support for its use. Thank you again for your consideration of my request. Beccaynr (talk) 03:45, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Beccaynr: The issue here lies in the lack of direct commentary—the references seem to focus on the haircut only, without providing any context of what the hairstyle was beforehand. The contextual significance criterion states that the item must either be "itself the subject of sourced commentary in the article or it must aid the reader to identify an object, style, or behavior, that is a subject of discussion in the article to merit inclusion. If there was a reference that stated, for example, "Weiner's unkempt hair and long beard were symbols of [whatever]", that would work pretty well. Unfortunately, the references don't address this aspect of the hair. plicit 11:58, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can review more sources, hopefully later today, but in the meantime, the quote from Robinson in the article is, "defendant Lee Weiner was extremely hairy and hippie-ish but is presented in the film as clean-cut and nerdy." This commentary is a primary reason an image from the trial seems helpful for aiding the reader in identifying the style/behavior of the subject. I appreciate the encouragement to focus on more specific support, and I will do what I can, because I think additional support is available. Thank you again, Beccaynr (talk) 13:40, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Beccaynr: That's definitely a good start. When you are able to incorporate the content into the section about the trial, I will gladly restore the image. plicit 23:59, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
While I found references to hair during the era generally, e.g. "A Longhair Was a Longhair" (Frank Kusch) and in one of the appellate court opinions (Ragsdale at 64), I added a more specific commentary attributed to Abbie Hoffman about the significance of their hair, right before it was cut in jail, as recalled by Weiner in his memoir, i.e. "our hair was a symbol of our freedom and of everything we believed". Does that seem sufficient? Thank you, Beccaynr (talk) 01:52, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Beccaynr: Looks good to me. I have restored File:Lee Weiner, outside Federal Building in Chicago during conspiracy trial, Feb 11 1970.jpeg and re-add it to the article. Please make sure to add a caption which describes the information noted above. plicit 06:59, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Xplicit, and for the discussion, which has also helped the article have more depth and detail. I appreciate all of your assistance! Thanks again, Beccaynr (talk) 15:10, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unless you can undelete it. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Na_i_efkairia_web.jpg&action=edit&redlink=1 The pages where it shall be put again are: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosita_Sokou https://el.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ροζίτα_Σώκου Shantimar (talk) 10:13, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Shantimar: Hi, it seems that the non-free image you uploaded was removed from Rosita Sokou because the article already has a freely licensed image. The inclusion of File:Na i efkairia web.jpg would violate the non-free content criteria policy, particular no free equivalent criterion. Its just does not appear to be justified here. plicit 11:58, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted my draft

Hey I saw that you deleted my draft called Synhamitermes. I didn’t get an message for it being deleted can you please explain to why it was deleted?CycoMa (talk) 17:20, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@CycoMa: Hi, as the deletion summary suggests, it was deleted as a test page for only containing the placeholder text. I have gone ahead and restored the draft. plicit 23:59, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Expired PROD

Hi Explicit! I noticed you deleted the expired PROD for Princeton University East Asian Studies Department. I think a redirect to Princeton University would be more appropriate—could you restore as that? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 19:23, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Sdkb:  Done, page restored and redirected to Princeton University. plicit 23:59, 7 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Urgent help needed

Please help me to save the article K. C. Banerjee from deletion. Thank you. Qwertynk (talk) 18:17, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to have closed the discussion as delete, but not actually deleted the redirect. Is this intentional? Hog Farm Talk 23:06, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Hog Farm: Somehow, the script managed to skip the action to delete. I have done so now. plicit 23:48, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Explicit, Can you please transfer this file of image of American actor Fred Kohler to Wikipedia Commons?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.188.212.86 (talk) 16:37, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This image lacks sufficient sourcing information to verify that it was published before 1926, so it can't be moved to Commons. We need more than just a direct link to the image. plicit 23:48, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Relist the deletion discussion

Unilateral restoration of other user's pages deleted under U1 speedy criterion

For what it's worth, I do not feel that this action was justified. I don't know how much of that you've been doing. If a user wants a page that they created in their user space gone per U1, then it should stay gone. I've been cleaning up thousands of broken userbox transclusions and don't mind doing so, but to force a user to keep something that they did in their user space beyond the time frame in which they feel passionate about it strikes me as wrong. For example, their position on an issue may have changed, and they no longer want to be associated with that opinion. I have seen several instances where users voiced controversial or spiteful opinions (esp. in userboxes), and later voluntarily requested it be deleted with U1.

If being transcluded was a legitimate reason not to U1 something, then policy would say that. All it does say is, "In some rare cases there may be administrative need to retain the page," but this is the first I'm seeing transclusions being claimed as such a "rare" rational (assuming that was your interpretation). I have seen (and cleaned up) hundreds of other such cases where that has not posed an impediment. – voidxor 22:05, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Voidxor: Hi, that restoration was based on my understanding that transcluded pages are not eligible for speedy deletion. Although not formally encoded in policy, there was a discussion that took place some time ago regarding the matter at Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion/Archive 49#Templates. The consensus was that G7—and by extension, U1—does not apply to transcluded content. I believe this is still the current practice, though I can stand to be corrected. If there is perhaps another userbox with the same message, I would not mind replacing instances of this user subpage and re-deleting it. That is the only userbox I remember restoring—I don't recall how I came across it, though. plicit 00:18, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
