Week3 / Assignment 3/yf2196

Yifannn (talk) 06:41, 27 October 2021 (UTC) YiFan Feng[reply]

The last article was about "brunch" because it said that the English brunch was around eleven o'clock. I think there is no standard time for brunch. Because I should add a time period for brunch in this Wikipedia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Brunch&action=edit&section=3

This time I upgraded according to the type I selected last time, and the Wikipedia article I chose for editing is this article about "time" content. It's because the previous Knowledge Encyclopedia article was about the time period of brunch, and the current article is the concept of time. What time is the morning defined by people? When is it early in the morning? But there seems to be no answer or standard information on this topic, and I am just participating and guessing. I didn't know about the evaluation of Wikipedia articles before in my impression, nor did I participate in the discussion. This extra points project has allowed me to learn a lot of things I haven't discovered before, and I hope I can learn more later.

Week 4/ Assignment 4/ yf2196

I added folklore to the origin of the Double Ninth Festival. It is a mythological and very ancient Chinese legend.

2. This is the link to the citation difference I added. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Double_Ninth_Festival&diff=1052619740&oldid=1050268118

3. From this assignment, I found that adding citations or materials can enhance persuasiveness and let us understand a certain event or story more comprehensively. And it’s important to keep the information comprehensive, because people are interested in related articles and will see more references and read more.

Yifannn Please assign yourself this article in the Wiki Edu Dashboard and then ping me here. I will then take a look at it and reply. Please also remember to sign each of your posts using four tilde characters ~~~~ at the end. --- FULBERT (talk) 19:39, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yifannn Please do this after we speak later this week. --- FULBERT (talk) 12:41, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yifannn The content is good, though you do not have a credible and reliable source cited to provide evidence for what you added. Can you add a citation to support what you wrote and then ping me here when done and I will review? --- FULBERT (talk) 20:40, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 5/ Assignment 5/ Notkc01

This is Kyle. Hope everyone is doing good. Here is my week 5 assignment.

1. I have explored some electric vehicle topics on the Wikipedia website and I ended up with one article that described the history of the Chinese subway and the overall development of the electric vehicle situation in China. I did a precious change about the specific timeframe of the origin of the Chinese subway in Beijing and added one citation on it.

2. Link to the diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Electric_vehicle_industry_in_China&diff=1054010425&oldid=1051225050

3. The editing certainly helped me learn more about the history itself and I hope people searching from Wikipedia can all get the useful and correct information. Notkc01 (talk) 14:26, 7 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notkc01, Please assign yourself this article in the Wiki Edu Dashboard and then ping me here. I will then take a look at it and reply. FULBERT (talk) 12:54, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
FULBERT Hi Professor, I have assigned myself to the article I edited. Please check it and let me know if there is any problem. Thank you! Notkc01 (talk) 13:46, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Amber MWY, This is fine, though starting this week we should also add a sentence or two in addition to adding the citation itself. Can you add a bit to it so we know how you intend the citation itself to be added and then ping me here when done? FULBERT (talk) 20:46, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
FULBERT, I added two citations for this article. The first one is that the author showed us"This type of battery is also referred to as lithium-ion batteries" but it did not show us what evidence is. And another is "Most commonly used for electric vehicles and electronics" and it also did not show us the idea to support it.--Amber MWY (talk) 02:58, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

update from week 2

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Brunch&action=edit&section=3

I think that brunch should not have a fixed time limit. It almost depends on people's mood to decide the time for brunch. The restaurant can carry out its own brunch sales time without having to define this time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yifannn (talkcontribs) 05:10, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 5/ Assignment 5/ Yifannn

1. I paid attention to the part about linguistics. The focus of the historical part should be on the beginning or event of history, not on the frame too much. . The history of linguistics is very old, I added some time about the earliest human language research language.

2. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Linguistics&diff=1053809836&oldid=1052939307

3. Through this exercise, I found that adding some knowledge points or literature is more important or more acceptable than structure or framework. Yifannn (talk) 05:50, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yifannn, Please include your Wikipedia user name in the section title as per the instructions. Please revise and ping me when done and I will review. FULBERT (talk) 13:04, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yifannn Please see how I renamed your post here using your Wikipedia User Name, which is requested in the assignment itself. Also, you added an interesting piece of information though it was reverted as you did not provide a citation to support your claim (similar to what I would mention in our class assignments themselves). Please add a citation to a credible, high-quality source and then ping me here again and I will review. --- FULBERT (talk) 20:51, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

1. I live in Brooklyn and I found that there are many Niu Technologies brand shared scooter downstairs in my apartment. I registered and used it. I find it very convenient, especially when you don't want to walk! So I chose Niu Technologies as my article. And found some information on the official website to supplement .https://www.niu.com/us 2. diff; https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Niu_Technologies&diff=1054632943&oldid=1018824232 3. I found that this is a new entry, and there is not much information. This makes me feel very meaningful. The information I added will be easier for others to see. And when I checked the official website, I found that it was a Chinese brand. And I never hear that before. And I feel that my "weird knowledge" has increased again lol.Cloi929 (talk) 06:35, 11 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 6/ Assignment 6/ Nenenie

1. This article is Shen Congwen's novel. I have added some of Shen Congwen's views on the life of the peasants in the story. This story is about the beauty of human nature and the defeat of feudal customs. There is no intrigue between people in the story of Xiangxi, simple and innocent.

Week6/ Assignment 6/ Beccabubu

1. This week the article I chose is "Flexible work arrangement". The COVID-19 pandemic placed flexible work arrangements, especially for telecommuting, to bring profound advantages for both a company and its employees. Week 5/ Assignment 5 / Sleep by 11

I've added a new paragraph to this term, adding the latest download data, as well as reviews from the news. Also put in citations from authoritative websites. I learned how to find citations based on the topic I wanted to edit. Also while editing, I saw the contribution of other people's edits and was inspired by their formatting, wording, and expressions. I learned a lot from other people's content. Week 6/ Assignment 6 / Sleep by 11

The content of this entry is outdated, so I have added the current new laws and regulations, the SEC's restrictions on foreign joint venture brokerage firms.

This entry is about the China Securities Regulatory Commission and China's financial markets, so I paid close attention to the impact of laws and regulations in the editing process. Each of my wordings should be in accordance with the laws and regulations, not to cause ambiguity to the reader, and also to conform to the original meaning that the laws and regulations intended to convey.

Week 7/ Assignment 7/ Nenenie

1. I Added some details about bird hybrids and some details about critics of the Dying Species Act. Because I'm interested in animals, the ESA act and the bird mix are both designed to reduce the pressure on species to go extinct in order to protect species diversity.

2. Gamebird hybrids: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gamebird_hybrids&type=revision&diff=1055999324&oldid=1041273425

Week 6/ Assignment 6/ Notkc01

This is Kyle. Hope everyone is doing great! 1. I have found one article about the introduction of NFT(Non-fungible token). NFT is a very meaningful production for the digital world after cryptocurrency. As more and more high-tech productions are introduced to our daily life, we certainly might have another identity "actually" living in the digital world. NFT plays an essential role as we purchase things in the digital world. As everything is digitalized, we need something to actually prove the authentication and the ownership of the products and NFT is the series of numbers assigned to each product we buy that can be retrieved by any buyer to show the ownership, previous price, and authentication. I added one journal article and revised the basic concept of NFT to make it more comprehendible and convincible.

2. Here is the diff link. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Non-fungible_token&diff=1056216323&oldid=1056165499

3. Cyberpunk may not be that far from the world we are living in right now. We surely should be prepared for the exchanges and take our chances. Notkc01 (talk) 13:25, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week5/ Assignment-Citation and Contribution/ Emilyyxx

1. I am working on an article related to my research topic. Virtual workplace has also become one of the most popular topic nowadays. I added one more challenge to it.

2. The Link of Diff.

3. As doing the research, I'm not only getting more understanding on the topic, but also get to know the processes of adding new materials to the article on Wikipedia. --Emilyyxx (talk) 00:51, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week6/ Assignment-Citation and Contribution/ Emilyyxx

1. Project is the general topic related to my research paper. I also took classes related to the topic and read several books about project management, so I think I might be able to contribute a little on the Wikipedia page.

2. The Link of Diff.

3. On the original Wikipedia page, I think there's a lack of a concise definition of project, so I decided to add one based on the PMBOK Guide, an official guide of project management published the Project Management Institute. --Emilyyxx (talk) 02:27, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week7/ Assignment7/ Emilyyxx

1. As I was looking at the digital marketing wiki page, I found that some of the references are outdated, so I decided to add to the strategies section cited with a new journal. I chose luosifen to be my second article because it is one of my favorite food.

2. Link to the diff: -Link to the diff. - Digital Marketing -Link to the diff. -Luosifen

3. I used to use Wikipedia as a major source to learn topics I am interested in, but I realized that I probably should always check the date of the references first to make sure I am not learning the outdated contents.--Emilyyxx (talk) 03:22, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week8/ Assignment8/ Emilyyxx

1. I chose a book and an author for this week's assignment. There are only limited info about the book or the author, so I edited a bit and included citations.

2. Link to the diff. - To Live

Link to the diff. - Rao xueman

3. The articles on Wilipedia often helps, but the contents might be incomplete, so it is important to do more research before take the contents on Wikipedia as truth. I also took a look at the editing history, it is nice to see how many people contributed in different parts to help each other understand the contents better.--Emilyyxx (talk) 04:36, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week9/ Adding an image/ Emilyyxx

1. Dragon Boat Festival is one of my most favorite festival, and zongzi is a typical food people will have on that day. I looked over the article and did not find a picture of the type of the way people wrap zongzi in my hometown, so I added an image that I took last year of a home-made zongzi.

2.Link to the diff

3. By learning this week's training, I realized that there are different types of licenses of the images and understood what type of images fit on Wikipedia.

4. In the whole process of editing on Wikipedia, I did a lot of research on the topics. I learned a lot about the topics and the rules of editing. I learned that Wikipedia is not the proper reference, but the rules here tend to help editors and readers can learn and contribute on all of these different topics. Without Wikipedia, it might be really hard for us to learn about something that we do not know about.

I probably will continue editing on Wikipedia for the areas I am interested in or on the topics which I've done a lot research on. One of the reasons is that I would like to help more people understand and learn about the things that I like. For example, I added a picture of zongzi from my hometown because I want people to know that there are more different types of zongzi. Also if I've done enough researches on a certain topic in the future, I would like to edit the related topic to allow people get the most recent information or research results on the topic just to help update.--Emilyyxx (talk) 05:26, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikisun1952, I reverted this for the same plagiarism concerns. Taking the words from another site word-for-word is a serious violation of academic and professional standards. Please redo this edit. FULBERT (talk) 03:26, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 8 / Assignment 8 / Wikisun1952

1. Recently, I was reading an article about inbreeding. I found that some details in the article were not in place, so I added some content. The second article I chose was thermohaline circulation.

3. Through this assignment, I learned that reference can help us to a great extent when we are looking for the information we need. Wikisun1952 (talk) 23:29, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your edit as it was too close to the cited source. Remember, the same policies we use in class about editing count for Wikipedia as well. You need to restate things in your own words and then cite where you got the idea. Please redo this following this guidance and ping me here. --- FULBERT (talk) 03:22, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Week 9 / Assignment 9/ Wikisun1952

1. Recently, I was reading an article on immigration policy. I found it a little outdated, so I updated some content. As Thanksgiving is coming, I read some articles about tourism and diving. The second article I chose was recurrent diving.

2. links to diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Immigrant_investor_programs&type=revision&diff=1056458941&oldid=1049091032 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Recreational_diving&type=revision&diff=1056460312&oldid=1044641312

3. Through this assignment, I learned how to add correct references to wikis and how to extract effective and timely information.

4. Through this study of extra credits, I learned that the biggest advantage of Wikipedia is that it has strict copyright management, and the appropriate editing threshold limits some users who edit at will. Editors are distributed in all corners of the world, engaged in all kinds of work, some people focus on one thing, some have a wide range of hobbies. In a word, they are ordinary people. We can find a lot of relevant and useful materials through Wikipedia. I learned how to add citations to an article and how to consult relevant materials. I will continue to edit Wikipedia because it has become a miracle of the Internet. There are too many such people working for the openness and freedom of information. Wikisun1952 (talk) 23:28, 21 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikisun1952, Please revise this one due to the same concerns as above. FULBERT (talk) 03:28, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
