Category:Radio stations disestblished in 1981 (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Misspelled. Category:Radio stations disestablished in 1981 already exists as a replacement. ----DanTD (talk) 16:20, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Recipients of Civil Awards from Varanasi (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Delete Overcategorization per WP:OVERCAT, geographical boundary does not necessarily have any relevant bearing on awards, the category title is so vague that it's useless, and award recipients of notable awards should already be grouped in lists with appropriate information, making this category obsolete per WP:OC#AWARD. (Apart from all that, the capitalization of "civil awards" is also wrong.) Hekerui (talk) 12:09, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Rename as proposed (per arguments of Aymatth2). Ruslik_Zero 07:41, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Propose renaming Category:Southern Sudan politicians to Category:South Sudanese politicians
Nominator's rationale: The Speedy nomination below ran aground on a concern that people in this category died before South Sudan came into official existence. I disagree with that assessment. South (or Southern) Sudan existed as a geographic, political, and ethnic region for decades before gaining full independence, and the people in this category appear to all be South Sudanese. So I think this should follow the format of the rest of the subcategories of Category:South Sudanese people.-- Mike Selinker (talk) 10:34, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame members (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: There is a well established precedent of deleting categories such as these. I can't find the exact link, but I know for a fact there was a "Category:Virginia Sports Hall of Fame inductees" discussion that resulted in deletion. This is overcategorization at its finest. Jrcla2 (talk) 06:15, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. We already have a whole tree of sport specific categories for Virginia Tech. With the amount of cats many sportspeople are in, there is no reason that a notable football player should end up in two for his time at Virginia Tech, one is sufficient.John Pack Lambert (talk) 07:36, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Rename. Timrollpickering (talk) 14:03, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Propose renaming Category:Naval battles of the Modern era to Category:Naval battles post-1945
Nominator's rationale: To go with the parent category Category:Battles post-1945; which is in the recently created Category:Warfare post-1945. To historians the Modern era is post c1800, after the Early Modern era. Hugo999 (talk) 00:08, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
