Maxis is dead since they are in EA, since 2007 the Maxis logo was removed from The Sims franchise ! It's no longer Maxis but it's EA Games only. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.247.125.69 (talk) 21:26, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You had deleted this game title from the Serious game page... indicating that it was not noteworthy. I do not believe you have play it and thus i am curious as to how you are making that determination. There are so few games in this genre. They are all note worthy. I would like you to repost this game as it is an important application for teaching plant biology and its user-base is growing exponentially. Please respond —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jfriedberg (talkcontribs) 21:03, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I haven't played it, but I don't need to. I deleted all games that didn't have articles. It is part of keeping the article tidy. That article attracts a lot of people (like you) trying to promote their own game. Wikipedia is not for advertising. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 23:33, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just wanted to ask you about why you keep deleting the link for The Call Of Cthulhu Graphic Novel. Shall I post the rapidshare link instead? Will that be spam too?The Call Of Cthulhu

My user name is Sweetprashanth

I keep deleting it because it is spam. You can sign your name with 3 or 4 tildes (~~~ or ~~~~). Four tildes is preferred, as it also leaves a timestamp. Peace. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 13:32, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I felt the novel is a good addition to the list of external links you already have. I found no copyright in the Novel itself. I felt as the other external links were very much like mine, I could include it in the page. I have no intention of spamming. I asked whether I can post the rapidshare link of the novel? I just thought I could share it in Wiki. Could you please suggest a suitable course of action?
Sweetprashanth 14:18, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The only thing I can recommend is discussing it on the The Call of Cthulhu Talk page. Ask other users what they think of it. But, from what I can tell, it is just spam. There are hundreds of fan fiction works based on the Cthulhu mythos, and we are not in the business of linking to them. Wikipedia is not a link farm. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 14:29, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I read that page regarding spam. Thank you for your patient reply. I say it again- it was not my intention to spam. It shall not be repeated. I didn't know there was so much fan-fiction. I'll try that option- of putting it up for discussion, as suggested.

Sorry, I inadvertently reverted all your edits in one go. I think the game you deleted is notable because it has its own section in the "List of EA Games". The picture was OK though. --Rodhullandemu (please reply here - contribs) 19:02, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:ScoobyParkIntroMovie.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ScoobyParkIntroMovie.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:17, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you're a bot, but it's not an orphan. It's used in Scooby Doo: Mystery of the Fun Park Phantom. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 00:26, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sid Meier

[edit]

Hi there! I noticed you reverted my changes on the Sid Meier talk page. I felt that an unsourced comment accusing him of racism did not belong on his talk page, so I just threw it out. Yes, usually stuff isn´t deleted off talk pages, but this is an article about a living person and should a comment like that coming from someone that just jumped in not be deleted? Fernando Hulio (talk) 18:58, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It does look like it's some comment from a troll, so it's not a big deal. You can delete it again if you like and I'll leave it alone. But, yeah, in general, apart from obvious vandalism, all comments should stay (until they are archived). — Frecklefσσt | Talk 19:16, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:EngineeringAnimationInc.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:EngineeringAnimationInc.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:48, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Sundogbox.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Sundogbox.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Κaiba 09:53, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, yeah. You know, it's too hard to contribute images to Wikipedia. I won't call you a Nazi, but it takes me an hour to explain why it's fair use to use the image. And you yell at me for every image I contribute! Why not make it easier to contribute images!? And people complain that Wikipedia has too few illustrations. This is why! I added a rationale, I have no idea whether you'll consider it good enough or not. I tried... — Frecklefσσt | Talk 15:05, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That was a completely inappropriate response. I was not yelling at you at all, any yelling you are assuming is coming from your own imagination. Your tone reeks of incivility and personal attacks and I wish you would refrain from using Nazi as a pejorative. Next time you do so, I will report it. Considering I am of German ancestory I am deeply offended by that. If you knew how to write a rationale, it wouldn't take an hour, it would only take a few minutes. There are plenty of guidelines to assist you in doing so and if you had trouble you could have simply asked me to help you write one and I would have done so. I haven't reviewed the image rationale, I will later on when I have more time. — Κaiba 22:20, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Huh, I must've been in a really bad mood. Sorry about that. I'll refrain from using the term in the future. But I still think it's too hard to contribute images to Wikipedia. That was back in January? There are lists of templates and so forth, but, frankly, I find traversing them confusing and troublesome. I'm glad there's someone willing to help. I just looked at what I wrote, and I think it answers any questions about it's appropriateness. So if my rationale is sufficient, great. If not, I'd appreciate any help. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 14:19, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just looked at it and it seemed fine but there was a lack of a license tag, {{Non-free game cover}}, which I added for you. Thanks, — Κaiba 15:29, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CAGATTI Storytelling Games

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article CAGATTI Storytelling Games, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of CAGATTI Storytelling Games. I just wanted to pop in and thank you for your edits on the simport page. You added requests for citations, which can be found in the linked articles. Should I link those as the required citation? Also, you changed computer-supported in to computer game, but this is not the case. If you don't know how to use them, ask for assistance. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 21:01, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:XCG_Logo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:XCG_Logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. Erol Otus

[edit]

Frecklefoot, could you take a minute and look at the Erol Otus article? Anything you might add there, like a birth date or something? A picture? Thanks in advance. - Dicecollector29 (talk) 23:45, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I've been watching that article pretty heavily lately. Otus is a notable artist, there just doesn't seem to be much out there to corroborate it. Too bad—I created the article and would hate to see it deleted. Anything I have is already in there. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 02:21, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is looking very good now, however. Some of the research and referencing done by Stextc capped the stuff I was able to clean and rearrange, so what is really missing is some personal data (birth, and so on). A picture would be great as well. Thanks for the reply! - Dicecollector29 (talk) 08:51, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, then there shouldn't be positions like H.E.R.O. and Hacker - Pitfall 2 was much more notable and popular (especially for 8-bit gamers). Greets, Lothar25 (talk) 08:01, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is the wrong place to discuss this (it should go on the Activision talk page), but, FWIW, I'm fine with removing those two titles as well. I think they were added before there was a complete list of Activision titles. I took them out. Pitfall started the series, so it is on the list. Very notable and important series. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 12:53, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Audio Games

[edit]

But is it really spam? Or do you just not like the link being there? --AeronPrometheus (talk) 17:38, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's really spam. It's a link to an example of an audio game. Think what would happen if we allowed such links for the video game article, or eBook article? If you don't want to take my word for it, ask other editors, such as on the audio game talk page or over at the Village Pump (probably under miscellaneous would be best). — Frecklefσσt | Talk 17:50, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see what's wrong with a link to an example of the subject of the article, those kind of links are all over Wikipedia. Was it pay to play? Was it free? I'm not understanding why linking to something commercial automatically classifies it as spam. --AeronPrometheus (talk) 18:18, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're not going to get anywhere discussing this with me. Take it to the other places I recommended. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 18:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia, a community of knowledge and people. It would be good to get used to conversing with your fellow editors when they bring things up with you. Your "rank" doesn't put you above anyone. --AeronPrometheus (talk) 18:49, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't claim that it did! All I tried to convey is that it would be more useful to bring this issue up with more people. I am just a single person, with my own opinions, biases and knowledge. I try to uphold Wikipedia policy when possible, but some things slip through the cracks. To me, your link fits the definition of SPAM. If you don't think it is, and you really want to link to it, fine. Get the backing of other editors. You're not going to get mine. But if you get the backing of several editors with lucid arguments as to why it should be allowed, fine. But if you add it again without any such justification, I'll revert it again. I told you where to bring it up. Please do so. Doing so will get you support if your link is justified. Talking to just me is wasting your time, and my time. By your own statement above, you should bring this issue up where you'll hear more voices. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 19:05, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think I misrepresented myself to you, I'm not hung up over the link itself I was just asking you why you felt it was spam. I wasn't looking for mass feedback, or a reason to restore it, I wanted to know what you thought because it didn't make sense to me. I look to understand how other editors think so as to improve how I think. "More people" didn't revert the link, just you. Also, I'm also not the one who originally posted the link (check the changelog) and it's not like you came up with a resounding reason to remove it either. There's nothing wrong with biases but if you're editing by them it would be best not to.
Also try not to remove things under false pretenses either (e.g. "not English", that one is not up to personal preference) --AeronPrometheus (talk) 19:34, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that cleared some things up. I removed the link (the second time) based on this guideline. I removed it the first time based on the fact that it is not in English. That was somewhat hasty, but the guidelines say try to avoid linking to sites in a foreign language, unless that information can't be found in English anywhere else. If I had followed through and looked at the site, I would've removed it based on the fact that it looks like spam. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 00:07, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Judy Blume

[edit]

Thank you for your edits to my references at Judy Blume! I will be going through my other contributions to make those changes too! As a newbie, I appreciate your help. I'm working hard to learn how to add citations and references to some of my favorite authors. It's difficult as children's book authors are not frequently written about in the press. Perhaps you can also help me with one of the pages to which I have contributed. I made a couple of edits to an article Michelle Ferguson-Cohen, but I got pulled back in by several postings to my talk page including a AFD request. As a newbie, I assumed that it was best for me to defend my edits. After doing so with the guidance of a more experienced editor who contributed to the article, some admin said I had a "COI" and was a "spammer". It was a horrible first experience, but hasn't stopped me from contributing elsewhere. Still, I'd like your two cents on this article, because now that I have a bit more experience, I see there are some things going on there I have not encountered elsewhere in other articles. They can't dispute my citations, but are using the discussion page to continue to make false claims that are not referenced. --JSane (talk) 07:47, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why people are claiming you have a conflict of interest with the article's subject unless you are Michelle Ferguson-Cohen or are somehow involved with her, either personally or professionally. I looked at the article and copyedited it a little bit. I'm a little pressed for time right now, so I couldn't be thorough, but it wasn't too bad. One thing to keep in mind is that book titles are italicized and that references should look like this:
EA moves towards new IP's from Gamesindustry.biz
They don't have to look like that, but that format is the most readable. Thanks for editing Wikipedia and I hope you enjoy your time here! — Frecklefσσt | Talk 22:35, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! Thanks for your help on the formatting issue! As for the COI thing on the Michelle Ferguson-Cohen article, I don't take it too personally, according to Hsu12, everyone who made any contribution is related to the author somehow we're all spammers and sockpuppets. As a newbie, it made me feel pretty darned unwelcomed though and I'm incredibly offended that somebody has made an accusation like that. I took a break till I was convinced to come back and continue contributing. If you're interested, check the discussion page for the lively debate! --JSane (talk) 02:54, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Warnings

[edit]

April 2008

[edit]

In a recent edit to the page Moon Cresta, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to other English-speaking countries, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the appropriate variety of English used there. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, you can ask me on my talk page or you can visit the help desk. Thank you. -- JediLofty User ¦ Talk 12:07, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Um, I'm kind of surprised to get this "warning". I normally don't change British English to American English or vice-versa: I'm well aware of Wikipedia's standards for localized spelling. But the word in question here—"mold" (vs. the British "mould")—showed up as misspelled in my browser (Firefox). I just changed it to the American English version of the word, assuming the original author had mistakenly misspelled it. I wasn't aware that there was a difference in spelling between the British and American, and the rest of the article doesn't seem especially "British" anyway. It was an honest mistake. I don't promise it won't happen again—I'm in favor of correcting misspellings when I spot them. But in this case, if I ever come across "mould" again, I'll know it's the British form of the word. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 12:35, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm sorry about the templated warning. With hindsight I realise that it's not something you're likely to do. As a Brit it kind of grates when I see English spellings altered to the American version (particularly when it is a UK-centric article - the Games Workshop games articles frequently have this problem). The funny thing about spell-checkers is that one can set them to US English and they'll flag colour as being incorrectly spelt. Set them to Non-US English, however, and they won't always flag color as being incorrectly spelt - my English teachers at school would have had fits if I'd submitted an essay with color or center in them! LOL!
I hope there are no hard feelings? -- JediLofty User ¦ Talk 13:33, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, no hard feelings. It grates on my nerves when an American subject has English spellings too. I guess we're all attached to what we grew up with. :-) — Frecklefσσt | Talk 13:41, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since you asked why this game was assigned a "high" importance rating, I explained myself on the article's talk page. --Craw-daddy | T | 00:51, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see you answered your own question there. Also, since the original game (Darter) doesn't even have an article, how important can it be? Important (or popular) topics normally get articles quickly, with many editors participating in its fleshing out (for an example, see Squad Leader). — Frecklefσσt | Talk 12:08, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear User: IMPORTANT WIKI ARCADE GAMES PROJECT NOTICE

[edit]

As you should be aware the wiki arcade games project has been marked inactive and with good reason. I am trying to increase the activity of this project but first I need to know who is still actually interested. So to find out I have put inactive next to the name of every person who has put them selves down as a participant of the project. If for whatever reason you do not intend to participate in the project anymore please remove your name from the participant list altogether. If you do but not in the near future leaving inactive next to your username will be helpful. Not taking any action at all will of course lead to inactive remaining against your name on the participant list. If however you have every intention on continuing in participating in the project please come change the "inactive" next to your username to "ACTIVE" so that it is clear who does and who does not still have interest in participating in the project. Thankyou for your time. --Hybrid360 (talk) 20:06, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Assumption on Xenophobe (videogame) Page

[edit]

I thought I'd just drop you a quick line to let you know that one really could do well enough that fatigue would set in before lack of funds did. It was not an assumption. I played that game for 8+ hours one day, starting at 9999 health, and never once adding a credit to continue. My health floated between 4000 and 6000 through the day. Finally, I just had to sit down, and I handed the game over to a friend who was pretty good at it. I had "turned over" the game so many times that the difficulty was at maximum and he lost all 6000 health points within 2 minutes.  :-)

Were it not for my getting tired, I could have continued to play indefinitely, as the game's difficulty had peaked. (My hand was stuck in a "joystick pose" for about an hour after...)  :-)

Just FYI. Not asking you to change the page.
