I have a question about the band called Nickelback

Are Nickelback's first 2 albums Curb and The State less well known then their later albums? I've never heard of their singles on the radio before from the first 2 albums. 2001:569:5026:8A00:6995:6719:BD2D:E7B7 (talk) 21:15, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Their first album mainly received attention in Canada, but The State and a couple of singles from it (Leader of Men and Breathe) received radio airplay in the U.S. in addition to Canada, and the album did well south of the border, although not much outside rock radio. They only became huge into the U.S. market with their third album, Silver Side Up, especially after lead single How You Remind Me became a massive hit in 2001. Xuxl (talk) 14:00, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Their first album was released by FACTOR and their second was self-released. I don't know how many units a typical FACTOR release would have, but a self-released album would definitely not have the reach and promotion of major American record labels. Lots of bands have made releases that most people have never heard on smaller record labels before getting major label deals. --User:Khajidha (talk) (contributions) 20:59, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
FACTOR is not a label but a Canadian government program to help musicians release their music. It has little to do with how many units are made; some big hits have received support from the program, but typically the assistance is directed to musicians beginning their career, and who do not have the support of a major label (not that this happens much anymore, but it was different in the late 1990s when Nickelback started out). Their first record was only released in Canada originally - it received an international release in 2002, after they had made it big -, but as I mentioned above, the second one, The State did get U.S. distribution, through Roadrunner Records, and charted there and received airplay as well, even if it was not the massive hit that the follow-up albums would be a few years later. Roadrunner was an independent label, but one that got wide distribution at the time. Xuxl (talk) 14:48, 30 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fictional disaster death toll

How many people were killed by African killer bees in Master Disaster's film The Swarm? I remember it was something over 100,000+ (including those killed in the train wreck, in the nuclear meltdown and in the firestorm which destroyed Houston) -- can anyone confirm? 2601:646:9882:46E0:655E:7EFA:58DE:81B7 (talk) 00:10, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A quick Google didn't come up with anything except this blog which says "...a film that is mostly just incredibly silly... The Swarm is a bad movie... They tried to make another great disaster movie. They just ended up with a disaster". Alansplodge (talk) 22:09, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Helpful Tools for Patrolers

May I ask if Wikipedia has a more useful tool than Twinkle for patrollers? Thanks. DANGGIAO No risk, no life. No malice, no fear 07:46, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but this is not really a question for the Reference desk. Do you have any specific patrol in mind? For the new pages patrol it is best to ask at the talk page for new pages patrollers. They have a tutorial course with tutors for newcomers. The recent changes patrol has a section about tools. If this does not help, they also have a talk page.  --Lambiam 20:56, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What are the masks in Kansas City Confidential made from?

watched the movie today and was wondering if anyone knew what material the masks the robbers use are made from, or what type of mask they are? I suspect they are die cut leather, used perhaps as safety equipment from metal workers, family members think they might be felt. For some reason they give me a mass-produced industrial vibe, but this could be influenced by all the common tropes in heist film gear. The masks seem too plain to be of any novelty or entertainment purpose, and is they are PPE its for a job where eating/drinking or otherwise usage of the mouth is deemed unnecessary. The masks look to be one piece with some taken in for the seam under the nose, with perhaps a baseball cap style of buckle on the back. The latching mechanism isn't shown well in the film. None of the film blogs take up this question. here are some link to a still of the masks. This image in particular shows the vertical stitched seam under the nose. another feature than suggests to me this is PPE is how tight to the brimline of the cap the mask rides, it could be tucked under the sweat band of a hard hat, and the size and shape goes beyond what is necessary for total obfuscation of the wearers face. Thanks Thanks,L3X1 ◊distænt write◊ 23:31, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's always possible that their design was invented by the movie's costume department. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.197.177.243 (talk) 00:31, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Given the age of that movie, it could be almost anything. Presumably they don't need to actually be functional, they just have to look vaguely functional. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely any of the film's producers are still around for you to ask. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots01:28, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Will Oppenheimer play in many IMAX theaters

Only 20 IMAX prints of Oppenheimer (film) are going to be shown in the US. It is being shown in only a fraction of the IMAX theaters. But it is said to have a theatrical time of 100 days. Is it going to be shown in different IMAX theaters (other than the initial 20) over that time period? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 03:35, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Soulful but jazzy collaboration

Recently, I saw these same videos on YouTube. One was uploaded by a saxophonist named Jeanette Harris [1]. The other was uploaded by a flutist named Althea Rene [2]. Calling themselves "The Queens of Soul Jazz", they collaborated on a cover of the Maze featuring Frankie Beverly song We Are One. Did they make an album together? Are any of their collaboration songs available online?2603:7000:8641:810E:338:32DA:589A:8A1B (talk) 10:27, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
