Name change

The tower's new official name is Jeddah Tower. If no one objects I will move the article. Firebrace (talk) 03:13, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Completion Date

The completion date is now stated as 2020, according to http://kingdomtowerskyscraper.com/september-2015-update/ and referenced by CNN. I have updated a couple mentions of the date in the article but do not know the proper way to update the date and source that is referenced in the infobox. If someone could do that, it would be appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zbax1290 (talkcontribs) 15:44, 3 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Unfortunately some sources, such as one I added today, still mention 2018, when we all know that is not possible based on BK's rate and empirical observation of the already well-delayed construction progress. B137 (talk) 07:07, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I updated the info box. I have not seen an updated opening date so I removed that. Kendall-K1 (talk) 13:22, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for not destroying the SSCenter ref in the process. B137 (talk) 18:51, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

List of tallest buildings in the world says 2019.

(I think I read somewhere that it was supposed to be built by 2015—wonder where I got that—if anywhere)

Gallery: Indiscriminate Images?

A progression of images showing construction of the tower isn't an indiscriminate collection of images, in my opinion. The pictures of the sign may be extraneous and unnecessary. But aside from that it is a notable building under construction. Showing images of construction progress at various points adds significant value to the article. Would it help with that tag to perhaps change the name from "Gallery" to "Construction Progress" or something of the like? aremisasling (talk) 14:40, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We used to have several different images for each date, from the same angle but different distances. That seemed like way too much so I removed the duplicates. I think it's fine now. Kendall-K1 (talk) 15:14, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've renamed the gallery and deleted the extraneous images (the aerial shot and the sign). – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 15:18, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free content

@Stickee: Responding to your message on my talk page - sorry I wasn't clear with my tagging - my concern wasn't with copyrighted content in the text, but what appeared to me was a slight overuse of non-free images. Specifically, I wasn't sure the schematic was really necessary, while the rendering in the article copy is nearly identical in nature to the image in the infobox, and two images of the sky terrace seemed unnecessary (the first one, the more detailed one is likely enough). Progress seems stalled

According to this youtube video - needs a proper reference discussing the recent status. --mfb (talk) 09:10, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

GA Status

This article doesn't seem to meet the criteria for GA status, even if it may have in 2011. Not sure what the process is to have it delisted. - Mainly 17:23, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

current height?

Infobox says construction has stopped in January 2018. Does anyone know the building's current height? It is quite hard to estimate, since there shows no nearby buildings. 109.240.219.111 (talk) 01:31, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have no proper source to provide, but I've seen a current height of 273 meters floating around the Internet. It was ostensibly based on comparing the number of storeys built so far to heigt markers on the tower's blueprints. The original source may be buried deep in the construction thread of SkyscraperCity or another skyscraper forum. In other words, I can't provide anything but hearsay, but the figure might satisfy your curiosity, at least. Codraroll (talk) 20:21, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Construction Stall

It's 2021 in all parts of the world. We need an update on the construction stall. Uaiazr Jxhiosh (talk) 05:42, 3 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We are unlikely to get official announcements of delays, and some users strongly prefer completely outdated official announcements over more recent updates. Have a look at Dubai Creek Tower and its talk page for another example. The article lead still claims it's under construction after two and a half years without progress. --mfb (talk) 09:30, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Jeddah Tower is dead?

After three years of no progress, no plans to resume the construction... Is it about time to cancel it???

A reputable source would have to declare the tower canceled first. There are all sorts of Wikipedia guidelines about that. Such a declaration doesn't seem likely to come soon, though. The developer even denies that construction is on hold, and uses their leverage with the CTBUH to label it as still under construction according to their database. CTBUH is one of the most used official sources, so it would not really be appropriate for Wikipedia to contradict it to such a degree. I personally believe the tower is quite dead for a number of arguably subjective reasons, but for all official purposes it is just taking a little break in construction. Codraroll (talk) 08:08, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough but when it's rusting/falling down are we still going to say it's ongoing? There has to be a limit. Wikipedia is pretty ropey in that it requires a "source" to confirm the blinding obvious. In this case I agree, it's not time yet. But if in 10 years time it's just a white elephant are we still going to say it's "ongoing" just because some egomaniacs are clinging onto a dream? Sirhissofloxley (talk) 01:24, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fortunately, as time goes on and nothing happens, it will become ever more likely that a reputable source will point out the obvious. Then again, we may end up in a situation like Ryugyong Hotel, which is also listed as on hold three decades after construction "took a break" and the building structure has deteriorated past the point of habitability. Another plausible outcome is that of the Metropolitan Life North Building, which was capped off at a fraction of its planned height. But until a decision is taken to do something about the tower, or its limbo status drags on for long enough that somebody notices, "On hold" is the best we can do. Codraroll (talk) 09:46, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

When I look at this tower, and it’s sky terrace, I see a Bond movie. Maybe they could CGI it? 2601:647:5800:3B60:1CE3:61D9:8365:DC43 (talk) 08:25, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
