Mr. Freeze in reverse

[edit]

The rumor mills for both Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags St. Louis have been running overtime lately with suggestions that Mr. Freeze will run backwards in the very near future. As of yet, no reliable proof has emerged. Videos have been presented, but with no way to determine their authenticity. They could conceivably be fan-made, for all we know. As such, we should hold off on this until such time as official word, through local press in Dallas/Ft. Worth and St. Louis, is given. --McDoobAU93 22:12, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Now that the modification has been made, we have another question ... is this permanent or just for this season? We need to discuss moving the article first before actually moving it. If it's permanent, then so be it. If it's just for 2012, then this should be a subhead under the main article. So, in order to move it, please request the move and discuss it, then build consensus, which may well be for it to move. Per WP:MOVE, this isn't that cut and dried. --McDoobAU93 16:10, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is permanent just like the Superman: Escape from Krypton and New Texas Giant coasters. Even if people just search for Mr. Freeze roller coaster it will just redirect them to the new article with the new name of the ride. So I agree to the change! If it ever changes you just have to redirect back, but I promise you it won't happen! --Jpp858 (talk) 20:28, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
How can you be so certain? Many roller coasters have been run in reverse temporarily, including The Great American Scream Machine, Racer and others. Like I said, just propose the move here and follow normal channels, build consensus, then move. The redirect will work just fine for now, especially since there is no rush. --McDoobAU93 20:34, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well how were we certain on Superman, they can just make the ride go forward again But in my opinion, I think if their is going to be a ride page for the coaster it should be with the right title header with it.--Jpp858 (talk) 20:49, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Then propose the move and see where consensus falls. Again, there is no rush. As a pledge of good faith, I will only offer comments and will not register a vote either way. I see reasons on both sides and will support whatever consensus decides. But, when the move does occur, do not just copy the text from one to the other. Please read WP:MOVE for how to properly move an article; simply cutting and pasting creates a lot of problems, since now there are two separate edit histories, one for each name. If the move is supported, I'll help get everything back in order with a proper move. --McDoobAU93 20:53, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There is nothing to suggest whether this will be permanent or just temporary. With the example of Superman: Escape from Krypton, the ride featured new trains which featured a new harness system specifically for being launched in reverse (OTSR instead of lap bars, same as Tower of Terror II). Texas Giant had its whole ride retracked. In the cases of Great American Scream Machine and Racer were the rides renamed when trains ran in reverse? If they weren't I'm probably leaning towards moving this page (even if there is the chance that it would be moved back following this season). Themeparkgc  Talk  23:39, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
GASM and Racer runs backwards with no name change. Even Colossus runs backwards during Fright Fest with no name change. All I am saying is that, why would Six Flags would put some much effort in marketing and giving Mr. Freeze a new name with the ride just operating in reverse just for the 2012 season?--Jpp858 (talk) 00:21, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Based upon the information currently available, I have requested that this page be moved. Please comment in the section below. Themeparkgc  Talk  01:50, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Freeze (roller coaster)Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast – Yesterday it was announced and widely reported that the ride would be renamed to Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast. There was a concern in the above section by another editor about the possibility of this retheme being only temporary. To the best of the information available at this time, the reliable sources do not make this suggestion and thus there is nothing to verify this possibility. As Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast will be the new name for the ride I suggest the article be moved accordingly. Themeparkgc  Talk  01:49, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment As I noted above, I won't be registering an opinion or a !vote on this request. There is past evidence to suggest that this could be a temporary move; there is also past evidence to say that it could be permanent. Unfortunately, reliable sources do not say either way. If the move does take place, please make sure that WP:MOVE is followed; the previous good-faith attempt created two separate edit histories. --McDoobAU93 03:16, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Freeze (roller coaster)Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast – The roller coaster has been known as Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast since 2011, which is almost 10 years ago. It is known as Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast now, and it frees up a disambiguation page for Mr. Freeze. GamemasterDael (talk) 05:28, 19 September 2019 (UTC) --Relisting. Steel1943 (talk) 17:59, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Tentative oppose: The provided rationale says nothing about how this topic is referred to in independent reliable sources. —BarrelProof (talk) 04:45, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Request for information: If Mr. Freeze is redirecting to this ride instead of to the character, that absolutely should be fixed. But when I search for Mr. Freeze, I do indeed get the character page. I also see it has two separate ABOUT links in the lede, and the search reveals several different articles related to the character. I can see that a disambiguation page may be needed, but not necessarily a page move in this case. Can the OP please provide a bit more explanation as to what they want to do? --McDoobAU93 16:27, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • In Favor: A few independent sources that refer to the coaster as Mr. Freeze Reverse Blast: RCDB (St. Louis), RCDB (Alrington), American Coaster Enthusiasts, Amsuement Today, Guide to SFOT, PR Newswire, Fox 2 St. LouisJlACEer (talk) 18:38, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • The question is not whether you can find sources that use a particular name; it's a matter of which term is more common (in English-language independent reliable sources). —BarrelProof (talk) 00:03, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • How many sources do you require in order to determine which term is more common?JlACEer (talk) 03:45, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
        • Instead of searching for sources that use the proposed name, I suggest to look for (independent reliable) sources that use either name and trying to figure out whether there are more of them that use one name versus the other. Looking at the logo used to market the ride, the "Mr Freeze" part uses a bigger font size, and the other words are tucked in below on a separate line. And the long name seems a bit cumbersome for frequent use (although it would provide natural disambiguation). —BarrelProof (talk) 21:26, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak Oppose – An argument can be made to move the article based on the official name, which provides natural disambiguation as BarrelProof mentions. However, I'm not finding enough evidence that the full name is the common name in reliable sources. A good chunk of what I'm coming across published in 2013 or later just refer to the coaster as "Mr. Freeze". Here are some examples:
A second home — and fresh hope –- Dallas News (2015)
Why you’ll flip over the new roller coaster at Six Flags, The Joker -- Fort Worth Star-Telegram (2017)
Six Flags Over Texas visitors express shock, concerns about other incidents -- Dallas News (2013)
Fright Fest Is Back At Six Flags Over Texas -- CBS DFW (2014)
New ‘Joker’ Ride Coming To Six Flags Over Texas -- CBS DFW (2016)
Coaster101’s Six Flags 2020 Predictions -- Coaster101 (2019)
To be clear, there are quite a few as well that mention the full name, but most of the those I encountered were introducing the coaster in detail or talking about the reversal of the trains that occurred in 2012. In the other contexts, it was more rare to see the full name printed. The OP really should have laid out the case with supporting evidence, and for that reason, I'm leaning oppose. --GoneIn60 (talk) 11:35, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox image

[edit]

Vertical Venom, the previous image in the infobox is preferred over the current image, because it was properly centered with the train. I also changed an image position recently using the {{Stack}} template, which allows for placement on the right next to the infobox instead of below it. I see you keep undoing that as well. You seem to prefer the left, but having an image on the left at the beginning of a section isn't preferred, because the text immediately jumps to the right after the section header.

Also, I noticed several IPs editing the article around the same time you are, many of which are performing the same kind of edits. Are these IP edits you, or others that you know? Let's discuss this here instead of going back and forth in the article. --GoneIn60 (talk) 00:11, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and modified the "left" image by moving it down a couple paragraphs, and then also stacked the second image so it doesn't drop below the infobox. I'm fine with that now if you are, which would only leave the infobox image to discuss. --GoneIn60 (talk) 00:19, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Great America Version

[edit]

Despite what some sources, such as Coaster.net may claim, a Mr. Freeze clone for Six Flags Great America was never announced. There were rumors and speculation based on a filing with the city of Gurnee requesting a height variance to allow a new roller coaster to reach a maximum of 225 feet. While that could very well have been a Mr. Freeze clone, the park never provided additional detail and the project was canceled. There is not enough information to assume it was a Mr. Freeze roller coaster. It could have been an early filing for a hyper coaster.JlACEer (talk) 15:01, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Relocation

[edit]

I saw a consensus post for relocating this page (no pun intended) to Mr. Freeze Reverse Blast from a long time ago- I think that sounds like a good idea, as the coaster was renamed a long time ago. Eg224 (talk) 13:29, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
