Amateur photo
[edit]Isn't the photo rather ugly? Ms Bayrakdarian's agent obviously spends a lot of money doing glamorous photos (see her website) and I wonder whether we should be using amateur ones here. Comments? --Kleinzach 23:34, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- I've now removed it. --Kleinzach 07:13, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Minimal discography
[edit]The present list of recordings could win a prize for minimalism. We need numbers, dates, places, labels, etc etc. --Kleinzach 07:12, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Photo of Isabel Bayrakdarian
[edit]There are certainly more glamorous photos of Ms Bayrakdarian in existence at her website, as well as those of her publicist, her recording company CBC Records, and her agent. They are all, of course, protected by copyright, and cannot be posted on Wikipedia without doing some grunge work -- writing e-mails asking for permission, submitting the responses to Wikimedia, et cetera...
Since no one else has chosen to post one of these on Wikipedia, and since the photo I took is relatively clear and not retouched in any way, and since it is also not encumbered by copyright concerns, I chose to share it so that Wikipedia readers could see her radiant, smiling face.
Fantasy trumps reality on stage in opera. So, too, in the opera world. That one person believes a photo "rather ugly" is not, I think, justification to eradicate the photo from public view. Your choice is censorship. That you have not chosen to write to Ms Bayrakdarian's agent, publicist, or record company to request permission to post a photo more to your taste is unfortunate, because then people who are interested in Ms Bayrakdarian's artistry might glimpse her face when they visited her Wikipedia page. Now, they see only words. I suppose fantasy shall trump reality by force.
Since this is obviously important to you, I encourage you to make the effort to add something to Ms Bayrakdarian's Wikipedia page rather than eliminate, and to obtain permission to post one of the photos you admire from another source. I look forward to seeing the results of your efforts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.115.209.94 (talk) 23:21, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- I've now reinstated it (until desired publicity photo from Ms Bayrakdarian's website replaces it). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.115.209.94 (talk) 17:42, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
North American tour refs
[edit]The North American tour ref links are not working. Can someone fix them? Also one is enough. Replicating it for each city is unnecessary. --Kleinzach 05:12, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Links to Gomidas Songs album
[edit]An external link to this album on Nonesuch already appears in one reference, as well as in the External links section. There is no need to repeatedly add the external link within the text of the article as well. (I've removed them.) First of all, external links within the text are to be avoided and replaced by footnoted references. Secondly, even if not intentional, the repeated addition of a link to a site selling an artist's recording looks like spamming. Also, when linking to another Wikipedia page, e.g. Juno Award for Classical Album of the Year - Vocal or Choral Performance, use the Wikipedia internal link not an external link. Style points
[edit]Please make the references informative. For example, this distinctly uninformative reference:
"Serse". Retrieved on 2008-08-28.
has now been changed to:
"DVD Review: Serse". ClassicsToday. Retrieved on 2008-08-28.
(See also the changes I've made to the references for the Operalia winners, the Canadian Arts Council News Releases, etc.) Also please avoid the use of abbreviations which will not be familiar to all readers. For example, use San Francisco Symphony & Chorus not SFO; Canadian Opera Company Orchestra not COC Orchestra.
Armenian?
[edit]She was born in Lebanon, still she is listed as Armenian-Canadian. Some explation would be needed. There is only that she made a trip there. Well if I make a trip to Armenia, then I am armenian, what? 82.141.125.215 (talk) 21:30, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
