Sainthood?

Are there any ongoing efforts to make him a saint? Does anybody know?

In 2017, his cause for cannonization was opened up. As far as I know, nothing decisive has happened yet, but if you want to know more I suggest that you research Dr. Stephani Richards-Wilson. She has been studying his life for more than a decade, and she is part of the team trying to find evidence for his canonization.
