Member information

For the citations, every member's blood type, birthday, birth place and tobacco brand can easily be found on the official Gazette site. 24.83.197.139 07:26, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Profiling information on each member would be considered trivial (see WP:TRIVIA). This information is more of a fun thing for fans, not something that belongs in an encyclopedia. The constant editing of Uruha has Lead guitar and Aoi as Rhythm Guitar is false, although these are their initial roles , Both Uruha and Aoi now play music that goes back and forth between lead and rhythm , to label them as one or the other is just false. 101.116.106.181 (talk) 06:18, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Genre

They sound Punk Metal so I've decided to add that to the genres. It should be known that Visual Kei is a fashion style and subculture and is not related to the music's genre. Stating only Visual Kei as this band's genre is not appropriate.

Please give us examples why so. The genre will be removed for now. I never really listened to them in a while but I consider them as alternative metal and hard rock (it seems a bit obvious). Maybe metalcore but this is from a person who listened to them. NaotoATG 06:28, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mess

It doesn't matter because maybe some people are trying to research them for their japanese idol project like what my class is doing. I'm not doing that project but say if someone wants to know, they can conviently check it here. Official name?

According to the official site, their new name is not 'The Gazette' but 'the GazettE'. Should this be changed?--Landa 01:19, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The name should stay as 'The Gazette' since the "official" way of mentioning them doesn't have actual importance but just there for cosmetic purposes. Please see WP:MOSCL and WP:MOSTM for more information. AKnot 00:43, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just pick a version of the article before it was vandalised. Then click on "edit this page" and save it to revert a long string of vandalism. Lots of random things were removed so I reverted to a version that seemed ok. Denaar 01:20, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Band Line-Up?

Band line-up and genres

There is no listing of a band line-up anywhere in the article. Also from listening to the GazettE for awhile now I can safely say that for their genres, it should say Funk Rock, Hard Rock and Nu Metal. As considering their music almost always has a funk feel to it, and considering that I think they fit the Nu Metal genre perfectly, because they sometimes mix Hip-Hop and Rap elements in their music, along with Metal music. I would agree with nu metal, and that should be kept, but please attempt to find a source that explains them as a "nu metal" band explicitly. As far as funk goes, I see very little funk elements in their music. I've sample much of their catalog just now to listen, but there is barely any occurrence of what would be considered funk. It's nice to get some of these Japanese bands limited down to a real genre, but sourcing can be the tricky part. Japanese bands also tend to more freely suspend themselves between multiple genres. Funk Rock

Well, I really do see some of their songs that have a funk rock feel to it, like the songs Manaatatakai Ame to Zaratsuita Jyounetsu, Silly God Disco, Shadow VI II I and more I can't remember. And their new album Stacked Rubbish has some songs that have rapping, and have funk elements. I would say if anything, the terms rap rock and nu metal do enough to cover what you are talking about, as the songs you mention don't really have a strong, twangy bass line with lots of groovy cymbal work. The funk feel has to be conveyed stronger instrumentally, whereas the vocal stuff will push on the nu metal side. --Jacob Talk 03:20, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]


Genre

it looks like you guys have been doing everything constructively but up until the genre, it seems to be all original research. look up official sites, and everything that proves all the genre's you placed. but it has to be a reviewer in music or there own official site. Reorganization of the article

As it stands, the article is messy and lacking in actual references. I'll probably be cleaning it up in the next few weeks, but it'd be helpful if anyone could tell me about specific news websites (non-fanmade) that mention the Gazette and/or their achievements, as I'm sort of new to this group. I'm looking to consolidate most of the biography as it's getting a little out of hand, and separate other activities (endorsements, other stuff - if any) into a different section. Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially if anyone could translate Japanese news articles.

Plans for organizing the article (sorry if this is a little hard to understand - I'm just brainstorming)

  • Combine their indie years (2002 - 2004? Was Disorder released under PSC?) into one section, titled something like "Formation and early years" (not really sure at the moment)
  • Maybe separate the other sections by album (e.g. 2006: Nil + major achievement in that period; 2007-2008: Stacked Rubbish + major achievement in that period; 2009-: DIM). Any input about the placement of Nameless Liberty Six Bullets? It's supposedly a return of the band to their roots, but... "better". Does it deserve a new section or can it be added to the 2009 sections (i.e. naming it "DIM and Nameless Liberty 02"... or something).
  • Add more to the lead-in: summary of singles, albums, other major achievements e.g. placement on Oricon. Isn't this band supposed to be pretty influential (btw anyone have any info on the "neo visual kei" movement that the Gazette supposedly started)?
  • Can't think of anything else, so this is a placeholder. Creation of a separate discography page. Speaking of which, the individual album/single pages are... =.=... but I guess that'll be for another time.....

Genres revisited

After watching this article for sometime it seems it is a victim of fans labeling one or two songs a genre and then claiming that means the band is that genre. This is not how we determine a band's genre on Wikipedia, we use reliable sources. But there are no sources in the article that speak of the band's genre. This problem is perpetuated by the completely unsourced Musical style section, that lists a ridiculous amount of genres because of the reason stated in my first sentence. Per Template:Infobox_musical_artist#genre we have to "aim for generality", this means the band's genre is the genre that the bulk of their music is, not a complete list of genres that they dabbled in, as it currently sits. Therefore I think we should have a grace period for editors to look and find reliable sources for the genre claims, if none are added we have no choice but to completely remove the Musical style section and be as general as possible with the genres; Rock and heavy metal. I consider to add seven genres. I suggest: Alternative metal, nu metal, hard rock, progressive rock, punk rock, funk rock, metalcore.

Comment: Rateyourmusic.com relies on user generated content therefore not a reliable source. As far as I can find iTunes is only used as a source for track lists, track lengths and stuff like that, but either way it doesn't mention progressive rock or punk rock anywhere like you claimed. Please read Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources and related articles, also it would be better if you posted here the sources you want to use before adding it to the article. Please, I'm asking you to undo the change about putting Reita as their "past member", because he is part of the band and he never left, unlike Yune.
