Concerns about article edits

A lot of valuable and objective details from when I first read the article have disappeared, and the article has been rewritten to be more favourable towards the killers. The language of the writing has also changed from being objective to conversational. One example of cleansing the article is where "marijuana" has been changed to "flowers" when referring to what the killers wanted. (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Murder_of_Linda_Andersen&type=revision&diff=854257922&oldid=746342856)

Another example is this revision where subjective emotions of the killers is added to raise empathy: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Murder_of_Linda_Andersen&diff=854257922&oldid=734407840

It needs to be investigated who made these changes. Over time the article has been changed, and it needs to be investigated who and whether there were self serving intentions that might need addressing. Important facts have and relevant details have disappeared or been altered in this article. The older articles seem to provide more clarity around the topic, and the article needs to be revised to those edits while incorporating new developments. 99.241.200.133 (talk) 20:22, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to remove all the references to the real names of the victim and her daughters. This will be in keeping with common name used the Canadian and other English-language articles. Many articles do not mention names at all - some refer to the mother as Linda and daughters Sarah and Beth. Not using the real names is also compliant with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.–CaroleHenson (talk) 14:44, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Diannaa, I know that you commonly work on copyright issues, and you were the only one that I could think of that might help with this question: Should the previous version of the article be revdel'd to hide the real names of the subjects of the article per WP:OUTING or other guidelines under Wikipedia:RevDel? Your assistance is much appreciated.–CaroleHenson (talk) 15:14, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The best place to ask this question is to email the oversight team. They can do rev-del or suppression, whichever is most appropriate. See WP:Oversight for the email link. — Diannaa (talk) 18:39, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent, thanks DiannaaCaroleHenson (talk) 00:47, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This shouldn't even be on here. Having respect for the victim's Families involved, including myself. Terrible reading this brings, back horrific events. 74.127.204.1 (talk) 04:04, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rename article?

Having gotten involved with this article a week or so ago due to the edit warring which led to a number of RevDels I had to make, it occurs to me that maybe part of that problem comes from the name of the article.

The present title is a pseudonym for the victim used by one journalist in his book about the case. It does not seem to have been widely adopted. Using the Google test and refining it so that it returns only results likely to be related to this case, I get 151 hits. But for "'bathtub girls'+murder", I get 68,200 hits, and for "'bathtub sisters'+murder", 4,400.

Clearly the current name is not the common name. It seems like Bathtub girls murder would be the clear winner. (And switching to that would mean a lower profile for the pseudonym and thus make it less tempting for vandals/activists to add the family's real names as happened recently.

Any thoughts? Would we be OK with doing this as consensus here, or should I open an RM? Daniel Case (talk) 04:41, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If Linda Andersen is, in fact, a pseudonym, I would agree about moving the page, but I feel like Bathtub girls murder could also apply to the crimes of George Joseph Smith. There's always Murder of "Linda Andersen", to indicate that it's not the victim's name, or alternatively go all the way generic: 2003 bathtub matricide. Or, for fans of alliteration, Mississauga matricide. Paris1127 (talk) 05:08, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose we could also just rename the page Bathtub Girls, the page already redirects. That capital G is important, so Bathtub Girls murder is another option. Paris1127 (talk) 05:11, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said, I got a five-figure sum of hits on "bathtub girls murder". All your alternatives really don't matter in the face of WP:COMMONNAME (and it seems like the Smith murders gained the distinctly different popular sobriquet of the "Bride in the Bath murders"). By COMMONNAME "Bathtub Girls" works as the most based on the sources and how they style it (I would prefer the lowercase, but the clear majority of the sources capitalize "girls"). @Daniel Case Should I add the “proposed move/rename” template onto the article? If so, what will the new article’s name be? Murder of Bathtub Girls? Bathtub Girls Murder? Thanks. Myrealnamm (💬talk · ✏️contribs) at 21:22, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
First, I don't think that template's necessary as it doesn't seem like this move will be controversial enough to discuss at RM. Second, it will be "Bathtub Girls murder", as they weren't the ones murdered. Daniel Case (talk) 04:16, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not really seeing any objections, so in a couple of days, barring any further comment, I'm going to go ahead and do this. Daniel Case (talk) 04:14, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is ... accomplished! Some rewriting was necessary. Daniel Case (talk) 04:49, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
