Le Labo (French: "the lab")[1] is a slow perfumery brand born in Grasse, France, and based in New York City.[2][3]

History

Le Labo Fragrances is well-known for freshly hand-making and labeling perfumes to order. Their stores act as a fragrance labs aimed at revealing the backstage craftsmanship around perfume making.

Le Labo was originally founded in 2006.[4][5] and later acquired by The Estée Lauder Companies Inc in 2014.[6][7][8][9] The brand is overseen by Deborah Royer, who serves as both the Global Brand President and Creative Director.

The brand became B Corp certified in 2022.

Products

Le Labo’s product line spans across fragrance, home, and body – hair – face, and do not contain animal-derived ingredients.

Known for their craft of Slow Perfumery, fragrances are compounded at the time of purchase with the client's name printed on the labels of the boxes and the perfume bottles. Perfumes can be refilled in many locations around the world, and online in select countries.

Le Labo also sells shampoos, body wash, soap, shower gels, tote bags, diffusers, notebooks and other various body and grooming products.

To date, Le Labo has 17 Classic eau de parfums, 17 City Exclusive eau de parfums, and 11 home fragrances and candles.

Fragrances

Le Labo fragrances are named after the primary scent note and the total number of ingredients.[10] Another 13 is an exception to this convention, as it was named after Another Magazine.[11]

City Exclusives

Le Labo City Exclusives are a limited edition collection of fragrances, each named for a different city. The fragrances are typically only available in that city, but during an annual event they are available globally. Samples are available in-store and online from August 1st to September 30th, and the full-size fragrances from September 1st until September 30th.[12]

Locations

The first store opened on 233 Elizabeth Street in New York's Nolita neighborhood.[13] The brand has standalone boutiques and counters in department stores in countries and regions including the US, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Mexico, UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Hong Kong, UAE, Kuwait, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, China, South Korea,[14] Thailand, and Australia.[15]

In Beyoncé's 2016 visual album Lemonade, the singer was depicted burning two Le Labo Santal 26 candles during the sequence for "Sandcastles".[16]

In the movie Red, White & Royal Blue, it is stated that the character Alex wears Le Labo Santal 33.[17]
