Gameplay

Can someone rewrite this section, please?! I tried to read it multiple times, but refuse to subject my eyes to such abuse. 82.110.109.208 18:30, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I corrected most of the grammar just now, whoever wrote that section in the first place did a very bad job.. 63.198.104.56 20:17, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tis quite good now. Nice --Ace Face 11:11, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've rewritten the entire gameplay section, removing incorrect statements, and clarifying slightly correct statements, I've also added detailed Multiplayer information as well as the introduction to the perks section. Fourzerotwo

I saw a few days ago that there was a split screen mode but now it is gone. I know that they confirmed that there is no co-op campaign mode but hinted at there being an update for it soon. Is there a split screen online mode like in halo and gears of war where two or more people can go online and play? I've lookin for this for awhile and havent found an answer.Lakerfan666 19:40, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Game Engine

Does anyone know the name of the game engine (i.e., middleware) used in the development of CoD4:Modern Warfare? Is it third-party or in-house? Aeonassoc 15:18, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's an in-house engine. IWslothy 16:10, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No Wii version?

Does anyone know if there will be a Wii version coming out?75.67.128.65 12:23, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No there wont becuase the wii doesnt have the technology to play a game like this well with bad graphics or the memory(Esskater11 23:09, 11 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Yeah, I agree with Esskater but I'm sure they will make another COD for Wii Later, but It won't be similar to the Current PC/360/PS3 version. Look at Big Red One and Finest Hour. Corporal Punishment 02:31, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

LOL @ Esskater11, that isn't the reason at all. If Cod3 was on Wii, they certainly could have made a seperate Wii version of CoD4, even the DS is getting a version of CoD4. The most likely reason they aren't is they're probably making some exclusive CoD game for Wii, like how EA is making a Wii-exclusive MOH game.

You basicly proved my point. there not gona make a wii version but if they did it be becuase of the reasons i stated same reason for MOH. face it if u have a wii u spent 200 dollars for last generation games by the way sign ur post u coward (Esskater11 23:38, 17 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Trailer

In the trailor, there is some guy saying things in what I think is either Arabic or Russian. Would anyone perhaps be able to interperet what he is saying? It sounds like maby some sort of speech, and the clips of a red flag waving suggest maby it is some sort ofArabic union thing like in Battlefield 2

Xaritix 05:37, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He was speaking Russian (look at the article), but that red flag looked Chinese. --*someone42* 01:07, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually dosn't look chinese at all, it looks like two swords crossing with a star above it or something. Also, could anyone interperet what the guy is saying at the beginning. It sounds like some speech or something.

Xaritix 04:54, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note the screenshot I took. That flag is probably the thing on his beret. By the way,he looks Arabic.--*someone42* 22:50, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In the background in the scene with that guy and some other person, you can clearly see a full version of that flag with the symbol on it. It looks simmilar to the MEC coat of arms in Battlefield 2. Also, the insignia on his beret looks like two flags crossing over eachother or something like that.

Xaritix 04:39, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I updated my older picture with the one with the flag in the backdrop. Notice how he's pointing the gun at the camera... --*someone42* 23:13, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I found a seorce that gives what he is saying

Xaritix 05:11, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I added a translation of a Russian phrase, and I think all of the translations are now in the article. LK 02:20, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Platforms

Concidering that there is no official statement on what platform this game will be released for I think it should be best that this section should be left as TBA for now.

It was announced for the 360,PS3 and PC in a review done by game informer magazine and IGN.com

and the intire devolpemtn staff has said the above(Esskater11 00:15, 18 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Since the article states the game is for Nintendo DS, shouldn't Nintendo DS Game Card be included in the Media part of the infobox thing? (Just being cautious) Djr13 06:10, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed reference of the DS version as they are completely different game and are unrelated gameplay details wise. The Console and PC versions are Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, however the Nintendo DS version is a completely different game and titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Note the drop of the "4" from the title. I think it's important we do not include these completely separate games in the same article as it is misleading to the reader, as the details in gameplay, and expectations of the game are completely different from the PC + Console versions and the Nintendo DS version. Rating

Just a thought, since there is an unrated version of the trailer (which I have not seen) and an age gate to the website, we can expect an Mature rating, right? --*someone42* 04:16, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not necessarily. COD has traditionally been Teen-rated. However, there is no need to speculate at this stage. --Scottie_theNerd 06:06, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw the "unrated" trailer and really didn't see anything that might define an Mature or 15+ rating, but the fact that there is an age gate to the website (letting people 17+ only) is a bit odd. --*someone42* 04:11, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
they just do that so they don't get legal bombardment or something like that. What exactly is in the unrated trailor? I can't play it for some reason on my computer.

Xaritix 05:19, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The unrated trailer is just an extended version of the rated trailer. (Note: I added a picture of the normal trailer down below). --*someone42* 22:43, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What exactly makes the "unrated" trailer so "unrated" exactly?

Xaritix 16:10, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know. Nothing unrated in it, just more scenes.--*someone42* 20:37, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It has been confirmed on the CharlieOscarDelta.com website that the game will indeed be rated M. My guess is this will be due to the violent cutscenes, as well as language.GaffneyT 14:20, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Setting

Wow, couldn't they have done the Cold War instead? Methinks it's going down the road of Battlefield 2.Samx 15:25, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please keep discussion related to the improvement of the article. This is not a forum. --Scottie_theNerd 22:26, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Someone vandalized this article. The "Setting" section must be restored, and I suggest that this article be placed in a lockdown, in which new or unregistered users won't be able to meddle with it. --Castigator 02:57, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you cast, this games getting some seroius hype and is getting vadalsied daily mostly.(ForeverDEAD 11:31, 14 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]
I restored the Setting section. We're not going to lock it down though, it's not getting THAT much vandalism, compared to other articles that get vandalized 8-10 times daily. I am keeping an active eye on this article though. Feel free to let me know on my User Talk page if there is a problem. SWATJester Denny Crane. 15:50, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Release date

What is the release date for the game ?? EnviroGranny 23:54, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fall 2007, specific date is unknown. --*someone42* 20:39, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ive heard that the release date is October 1st from a gamestop employe when i preordered it for my 360

Wasn't it confirmed as November 5th at the Leipzig GC? -Madbrood 20:33, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

November 5th, 2007 is the release date. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.45.66.201 (talk) 17:46, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

error in translation

"vsekaja vaina eto varanjo" means "war is bulls*it" Chegis 18:21, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

O RLY? lol, I don't think it was that Xaritix 01:45, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe "враньё" is actually closer to "deception" than "lie", as it currently stands. GregorB 16:20, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's definitely closer to deception, and Deception is the original quote from Sun Tzu. I'm going to change it. SWATJester Denny Crane. 15:51, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

360 Version

I'm not in the mood for a flame-war, so could someone try to answer this in a polite and adult manner.

Are there any reliable references for this game being on the XBox 360? Simondrake 18:49, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes 402 has confimred it on the Infinty ward and charlieoscardelta boards. (Esskater11 00:13, 18 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Not to mention xbox marketplace has trailers etc. --Philip Laurence 03:14, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

sources

. In addition to the basic classes like Heavy Gunner and Assault Class, this game will include Spec Op, Demo and a user customizable class creator. But to create a unique class, the player has to unlock the ability through a certain hours of gameplay. Only two of the classes are available to a first time player. The rest are unlocked as he/she gains more experience online and gains higher rank. It has been confirmed that players will be able to buy maps for Multiplayer mode, that contain special vehicles such as UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and the Little Bird helicopter.

i would like too see the source from above thank you.(Esskater11 00:16, 18 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]

The above information has been confirmed by Infinity Ward themselves and can be found in any article describing the multiplayer

COD vs Call of Duty

Not that I'm against all these stupid abbreviations, lol, but I saw an inconsistency in this article with the use of Call of Duty and COD. I just replaced two... there may be another, but when writing new stuff, can we keep to Call of Duty? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.199.67.25 (talk)

While I personally prefer using the full name, is there any reason why we shouldn't use the abbreviation? --Scottie_theNerd 08:48, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
i think he already explain himself:"I saw an inconsistency in this article"Akinkhoo 17:57, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Its obvious that the whole name is needed. Someone not familiar with the gaming community may not be familiar with abbreviations like COD and WoW. For and encyclopedia article, defiantly full name.(Poweroverwhelming 22:10, 24 September 2007 (UTC))[reply]

BETA

should we put the info about that in the page.(Esskater11 23:11, 11 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Yeah, we should. The Halo 3 page had beta details (it was moved to Marketing for Halo 3 but only because the page got so big). There are also beta details on Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and quite a few other games. SeanMooney 20:21, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am terrible at this... I made a COD4 Beta page and pretty much just copied some info over. but I cant link the dang thing in the main article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fighting Zucchini (talkcontribs) 18:08, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, just in case anyone is wondering why I deleted it, the comment about the beta ending on september 30th had no reference, and is causing some havoc on the charlieoscardelta site as numerous people are trying to use it as proof. Seeing as there was no reference, making it speculation, I have removed it. If Infinity Ward can confirm this date, I'll be more then happy to undo it, but until then let's keep the speculation to the minds of the kiddies on the boards, and the facts on wikipedia.Skyzefawlun 17:50, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Weapons

Although an offical weapons list hasn't leaked or released yet, the list in the article is obviously Incomplete, and If all the Other American Weapons are correct, Why are they using Heckler & Koch USP instead of hte Beretta 92 or Sig P228? However, I do speculate that the L85A2, AK-74 and PP-19 Bizon may be included.

No weapons, the games not out its all speculation i think the only people who actualy no are the IW workers(Esskater11 23:43, 17 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Nintendo DS

I recall hearing at gamespot and youtube that CoD 4 will be released on DS. I also noticed that it wasn't mentioned on the article. Why is this? Marlith 04:53, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is addressed in the ==Platforms== section above. IWslothy

Remove No Source Tag?

What do you say. Most of the info on this page does have sources or is common knowledge for any future COD4 fan. It just makes the article appear to be all wrong rather than a few issues. Any other support for this? --zrulli 18:04, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed it, however, please continue to add sources. SWATJester Denny Crane. 18:26, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Better on a better system

Shouldn't it be mentioned that the game will go allot better on Ps3 and PC then on the xbox? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.108.241.197 (talk) 20:20, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Although I have a PS3 and am a loyal fan of sony and It's products how can you say that the "PS3 is a better system" either you are a fanboy of the lowest degree or you have some strange knowlede that 6 billion may have missed, anyway most games look better on PC's and i think FPS games are best played on a PC Lewisbell 21:25, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Challenges, game types, weapons

When editing game articles, please consider the guidelines set out in WP:NOT and WP:VG/GL, and also consider the arguments at WP:INTERESTING and WP:TRIVIA. It is not essential for the casual reader to read an extensive list of weapons, game types and challenges, especially for a game that has not yet been released. Adding comments in the article disallowing editors from adding or removing content does not legitimise it. Only add in what is verifiable and notable. --Scottie_theNerd 14:16, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All the game types have been confirmed by Infinity Ward and on the multiplayer beta. It can be found on most articles written about the game informing of the game's multiplayer —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.45.66.201 (talk) 17:48, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
