Japan Academy Film Prize
The Japanese Academy Awards have been held since 1977 to reward excellence in Japanese film. Award categories are similar to the American Academy Awards.
Many critics have been appalled by the movies that are chosen some years and the seeming focus on only blockbusters. Critics states that films that have done extremely well criticaly fail to even get nominated. They Highlight this by in 2004 Nobody_Knows despite winning best actor at Cannes, nominated by Japan for best foreign film at the oscars and being highly praised internationally, receiving only one nomination for best supporting actress.
