Baroque Works (バロック・ワークス Barokku Wākusu) is a fictional underground criminal organization in the anime and manga series, One Piece. Baroque Works stands as the longest spanning antagonistic presence in One Piece.

About

Baroque Works is a criminal organization created by Sir Crocodile. Agents often function as bounty hunters and take down other pirates in order to earn more money to aid their operations. The most important tasks of the agents however, were to spread lies and rumors in Alabasta about their King Nefertari Cobra in order to launch a rebellion against him. All of their missions together lead towards the takeover of Alabasta and Crocodile's ultimate goal, obtaining the Ancient Weapon Pluton, which is said to be hidden somewhere in Alabasta. This final mission went under the name "Operation Utopia".

All the main agents in Baroque Works are given code names and address each other by these, their real names are all secret to one another. Male agents are named by number, while female agents are named either after weekdays or holidays.

Officer Agent Pairs

Mr. 1

Mr. 1 (Misutā Wan) is an infamous assassin from West Blue who was known as Das Bones (ダズ・ボーネス, Dazu Bōnesu). Mr. 1 has the kanji for "1" on his chest. Mr. 1 fights against Roronoa Zoro in Alabasta, and is defeated when Zoro learns to cut steel during their fight. Mr. 1 ate the Supa Supa no Mi (Dice Dice fruit in the 4Kids dub) that can make any part of his body into powerful steel blades, as well as giving his entire body the hardness of steel. As one of Baroque Works' top agents, his basic fighting skills are impressive.

Mr.1 appears in One Piece Grand Battle rush and Grand Adventure as Crocodile's support character, where he's ranked a dash type in the support rank.

Miss Doublefinger

In Japan, the date January 1st is often signified by holding up two index fingers (01/01); hence the name "Doublefinger." Miss Doublefinger (ミス・ダブルフィンガー,Misu Daburufingā, Ms. New Year's Eve in 4Kids dub; the western equivalent to Doublefinger), though the Doublefinger moniker is retained in the FUNimation version. She first appears as Paula, the owner of the Spider's Cafe, although this may be another alias. Eating the Toge Toge no Mi (Spike Spike Fruit) gave her the power to create stretchable spikes from her body. She is defeated by Nami in Alabasta.

Miss Double Finger made an appearance in One Piece Grand Battle 2, Rush and One Piece Grand Adventure, she is Crocodile's support character and is ranked a Jump type.

Mr. 2 Bon Clay

Bon Clay (ボン・クレー, Bon Kurē, ), AKA: Mr. 2 (Misutā Tsū) is an "okama", a Japanese slang term for a transvestite. He has a flamboyant attitude, and is prone to singing and dancing. His martial art style is called "ballay Kenpo" in the Japanese anime and manga (Crazy Karate in 4kids Dub,Crossdresser Kenpo in Funimation Dub, and Oh Come My Way Kenpo in the English Manga). Bon Kurei ate the Devil Fruit, Mane Mane no Mi (Clone Clone Fruit) which allows him to transform into an exact copy of anyone he has touched. Mr. 2 Bon Kurei's swans form the shape of a two. He fought with Sanji in Alabasta, and was defeated. However, they struck up a friendship/rivalry when Sanji refused to deal a "finishing blow."

Mr. 2 Bon Kurei is the only Officer Agent in Baroque Works without a female partner. This stems from the belief that, as an okama, he fills both roles by himself.[1] Likewise, his name is a composite of a male Baroque Works agent's number and a female agent's holiday-based name. "Bon Kurei" is celebrated in Japan on either July 15 or August 15 because of the use of a lunar calendar. It is a Buddhist celebration found on the last day of the Bon festival, honoring the dead. Lanterns are lit, and the Bon-Odori is traditionally danced.[1]

Bon Kurei is a playable character in One Piece Grand Battle 2-Rush, One Piece Grand Adventure, and in One Piece Unlimited Adventure.

Mr. 3

Mr. 3 (Misutā Surī) A self proclaimed brilliant strategist, Mr. 3 believes that his plans are flawless. He is ordered to kill the Straw Hat Pirates and confronts them at Little Garden, where he is defeated by Monkey D. Luffy. Mr. 3 ate the Doru Doru no Mi (Wax Wax Fruit), giving him the power to produce molten wax from any part of his body. He also loves Earl Grey tea and is almost always seen drinking it. His hair is perfectly shaped as the number 3 and Luffy is dumb-founded by it. He is defeated by Luffy on Little Garden, and returns to Crocodile to beg for forgiveness. However, he is fed to the Bananawani, yet escapes in a wax-ball, only to be defeated once again by Sanji.

Miss Goldenweek uses these Color Traps to control Luffy, attempting to prevent him from defeating Mr. 3.

Being very dimwitted, he only listens to his partner's, Miss Merry Christmas, orders and rarely speaks. He has a dog named Lasso, who was once a gun who "ate" the Inu Inu no Mi (Mutt Mutt Fruit, in the English dubs), who now shoots explosive baseballs for Mr. 4 to hit at his opponents. He is defeated by Usopp and Chopper, along with his partner, in Alabasta.

Unlike her partner, who is very slow, she talks very fast, often only pronouncing the first syllable of the word. In the English anime, she talks like an army drill sergeant.

She has the power of the Mogu Mogu no Mi (Diggy Diggy Fruit in the 4Kids English dub; Mole Mole Fruit in the FUNimation dub), a Zoan type fruit that gives her the ability to transform into a giant mole or a mole-human hybrid that Usopp mistakes for a penguin. Because of this transformation, she can easily dig underground in the sands of Alabasta and sneak up on opponents. She is defeated by Usopp and Chopper.

In the English 4Kids dub of the anime, he also uses phrases and terms common during the 1970s. His Yellow Gun named the Kiiroi Juu shoots dice-shaped bullets, which he fires so they line up with Miss Father's Day's bullets, thus creating an explosion. Sir Crocodile gave them the job to guard the cannon at the top of the clock tower until it went off and destroyed the people fighting in the middle of the capital city of Alabasta, Alubarna, though they are both unaware of the fact that they'll be caught in the blast as well. He always seems to yawn or whisper to Miss Father's Day. Both he and Miss Father's Day were defeated by Princess Vivi as the Straw Hat Pirates help her climb the clock tower.

(In both the 4Kids and FUNimation dubs, she says Ribbit, the English equivalent.) Miss Father's Day shows up in the main story briefly during the climax of the Alabasta Kingdom storyline manning the giant cannon that Baroque Works has placed in the Alabasta capitol of Alubarna. Princess Vivi figures out the location of this cannon and, during the final moments of the battle of Alubarna, she with the Strawhat Crew's help attacks it. Miss Fathers day and Mr. 7 attempt to stop her, but Vivi skilfully evades their gunfire and defeats them using her peacock slashers. He and Vivi meet the Straw Hats while trying to kill Laboon the whale for food. The Straw Hats give them a ride there later after they accidentally lose their Log Pose. After Vivi is exposed by Mr. 5 and Miss Valentines Day, Mr. 9 tries to hold them off to allow her to escape. He is defeated by Mr. 5.

Also, Mr. 13 is a skilled artist and was able to draw up posters of Nami, Zoro and Luffy to report to Mr. 0 that they'd learned of his secret identity.

The Unluckies appear first in the Laboon Arc to punish Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday. Miss Friday has a pair of machine guns strapped on her back and Mr. 13 has a pair of shell gloves with short but very sharp claws on the fingers. Besides these weapons they also have bombs that they use to punish the Baroque Works members. They were defeated in Little Garden by Sanji.

The Unluckies appeared in One Piece Grand Battle Swan Collisium only as a background character.
